Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Broadstairs - E13508

Cottage in Broadstairs, Kent, England - Moments from both Viking and Stone bay, close to restaurants and cafes.

Bleak House Lodge was built in 1801 as the lodge house for Bleak House, made famous in the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens. Located in a quite street in the heart of Broadstairs, the cottage is just a few moments walk from both Viking Bay and Stone Bay, as well as the many restaurants, cafes and bars the town has to offer. The property has been sympathetically renovated in 2014. It has stripped wooden floors and cast iron radiators. Where possible original features have been maintained, creating an authentic period atmosphere. There are separate living and dining rooms, both with open fires. Two bedrooms, one with an en suite shower room. And a beautiful south facing walled garden and terrace with table, chairs and a barbecue. The living room has a smart TV and wifi is available throughout the property. The house is suitable for small children as the staircase leading from the dining room has a door. A travel cots and a high chair are available for use. There is also a small box of toys for younger children.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • suitable for elderly or infirm

Great cottage in great location

  • 5 of 5

Really comfortable accommodation, which has not only been sympathetically renovated but well thought through for visitors. We had a very easy and enjoyable week's stay with our two small children. Perfectly located for town amenities and the sandy beach.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This beautifully renovated house is stylish and yet also very comfortable and practical (space for sandy boots and coats etc). We went in February and it was very warm and cosy - and when the sun came out it was filled with light! It is in an amazing location - very central yet very quiet.

The property description is accurate and it was very clean and well maintained. The owners are quick to respond to any queries and provided good local knowledge (eg presence of fish shop which serves gluten free food).

We enjoyed walking to Ramsgate and Margate along the beaches, eating ice-cream at Morelli's and visiting the Hornby Visitor Centre.

I would recommend this property to anyone who enjoys the seaside!

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week's stay in Bleak House Lodge, which is within a short walk of both Stone Bay and Viking Bay. The house has been thoughtfully renovated, and worked well for us, having two young children. Our children loved the sandy beach, with its children's corner, Morellis, the ice cream and coffee parlour, and we enjoyed the Charles Dickens museum. We also visited Quex Park and the Turner Contemporary in Margate which was an amazing space. We had a lovely week, and would recommend it to other families.

Best Holiday at Bleak House Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Our week in Broadstairs was one of our best holidays. The weather was lovely but what made the holiday so good was Bleak House Lodge itself. The location was perfect on one side, just round the corner was the High Street, with all its amenities , and on the other side, the beach with its lovely cliff top walks and beautiful sands. Yet the cottage was so quiet and peaceful with every amenity you could ask for; comfortable beds, patio and garden to sit in and two spacious living rooms. We intend to go back again and probably again.

Astonishing Bleak House Lodge

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time staying in Bleak House Lodge for 17 nights. The cottage itself is unbelievably cute, there was plenty of space for 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kids aged 11, 9 and 1.5). The kids were happy with all the toys, beach stuff, high chair and cot available for them. The Bleak House Lodge had a very well equipped kitchen and there was loads of room for our belongings in the bedrooms. The cottage has everything, and when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING ! We were blessed with an amazing weather in June, which meant basically that we were able to have several BBQ days in the wonderful garden. The whole place was beautifully clean and I must say that the beds were really comfortable! The setting was in a peaceful location, yet, it was less than 5 min walk to the beautiful sandy beach and also to peacefully busy High street with all the famous pubs, restaurants and shops, we didn't need the car at all. Correspondence with the owner could never been any smoother from the beginning. Yvonne was a very welcoming hostess and she literally made us feel that we are staying in our own home. We would definitely revisit this cottage and recommend it to our family and friends. It was just the perfect holiday getaway.

Beautiful Broadstairs

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on the Friday of May Half Term and were delighted with Bleak House Lodge. The children (ages 6 and 3) loved their bedroom and especially the box of toys to play with which was a nice touch. The house was just stunning, inside and out with all one could wish for for a perfect weekend away. A whole box load of beach toys/wind break/fishing nets as well which was perfect. We were lucky with the sunny weather and the garden was a real sun-trap. Lovely to sit out for a morning coffee and an evening drink. Location was amazing. Literally 5 mins walk from stunning sandy beaches and the town (perfect for tired little legs). Parking could usually be found on the street opposite the house. Broadstairs town itself is great. Full of restaurants and cafes of every nationality and budget. There is a really popular Italian called Il Posillipo where booking is definately required as there were queues out the door! Day trips are aplenty - would recommend the Shell Grotto and the Contemporary Gallery in Margate. It also has a quaint old quarter with galleries and retro/antique shops. Would not hesitate to come back for another stay. In fact we did not want to leave!
