STUNNING FARMHOUSE WITH SPECTACULAR VIEWS AND PRIVATE POOL IN TUSCANY.

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Caprese Michelangelo - Capanno Del Lupo

Three bedroom, rural farmhouse, sleeps 6/7, all en-suite bathrooms, private pool

'A Small Piece Of Heaven In Tuscany' as quoted by a guest and, of course, we must agree!

Capanno Del Lupo is a beautiful stone farmhouse, recently restored, which stands in 20 acres of hillside that merge into chestnut groves and woodland. It's position high in the Tuscan hills offers amazing views, seclusion and tranquillity and is perfectly located for walking enthusiasts.

The house is set over three levels: The ground floor has a well equipped farmhouse kitchen, a dining room with seating for 6/8 and a small sitting room. All these rooms open up to the front terrace which is a sun trap for most of the day. A stone stairway leads to bedroom 3 and then continues on to the next level which has the main sitting room and bedroom 2. This sitting room is the heart of the house and is full of character with a rustic stone sink and a large stone fireplace with a wood burning stove. There is a TV with DVD player and a large selection of DVD's to view; a wooden staircase leads up to the master bedroom which is complete with private bathroom.

A pretty garden surrounds the farmhouse and the large private swimming pool is set a safe distance from the house.

The owners live in the annexe to the rear of the property and are available for advice if required.

I am a born and bred London lad who, with my wife Sue, made a huge life change a couple of years ago to now live in this beautiful part of the world.

John Sharp purchased this farmhouse in 2003

It was love at first sight for us when we saw Capanno Del Lupo and, even though we hadn't intended to buy a property on our weekend away, we were committed. We loved the beauty and privacy of the area, along with the character of the house.

The best part of being at Capanno Del Lupo is the peace and quiet. It really feels as though you've had that 'stop the world I want to get off' moment! It was this that made my wife and I fall in love with the place. The views are a constant source of wonder and never cease to amaze.

peaceful place of beauty

This was a magical place in the mountains with a fantastic view and lots of character. The house has been carefully renovated to retain its patina while providing all the modern day comforts like ensuite bathrooms for each room. And lots of hot water. The house is up the side of a mountain (big hill?) covered with mixed forest including a plantation of old chestnut trees. Closer to the house you will also find fruit trees.

The pool is ideal for swimming lengths and very refreshing on hot days with the temperature ranging between 22 and 24 degrees. And the view from the pool is excellent.

We spent our days exploring the local towns and museums, chasing the local markets and lounging around in the garden. Our hosts gave us splendid tips regarding local restaurants and the Locanda across from the access road and the pizzeria in Anghiari were favourites.

One evening we stayed at home with Sue teaching us how to make our own pizzas and John cooking them in the original pizza oven attached to the house. Topped off with lots of Prosecco, it was a night to remember.

Also on Sue's suggestion our young people went horseriding. Matteo took them on a trek through the forest to Capanno del Lupo and back again. A big recommendation to all riders. Matteo selects the horses according to people's abilities.

Sadly we did not have time for winetasting at the house. One week is simply not enough.

We even miss driving up the access road with all of its irregularities. It was great fun, as too was the thunderstorm during the last night which had us all awake and listening with bated breath.

Definately a place to come back to again. Thank you Sue and John (PS. I submitted a review straight after my holiday - but it didn't appear. I hope I'm not writing the same thing twice.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the lovely review! It was a pleasure getting to know you all and having you to stay here. We're so glad you enjoyed the horse riding, we loved seeing the youngsters riding into the hills. It would be great to see you here again, hopefully for longer next time. Sue & John

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at this superb villa and would gladly go back!
The area is truly beautiful and peaceful, with breathtaking views, ideal for a 'chill-out' holiday. The house is very clean and well equipped, beautifully maintained. The owners are friendly and helpful and live on site which is a bonus as they are accessible for help but dont interfere with your holiday. The house is located on a hill top, the view from the pool is scenic.
All in all it was an enjoyable and relaxing stay, and we highly recommend this house...
Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments! It was a pleasure having you to stay and you will always have a warm welcome here, we hope to see you again.

Relaxing holiday!

My wife and I stayed for one week at Capanno Del Lupo as part of our tour in Italy. There was only one challenge en route from Roma at the destination – to keep our Fiat 500 unbroken on a bumpy road up to the house …
Hospitable and friendly owners, Sue and John, welcomed us warmly. It was so nice to have a bottle of chilled prosecco by the pool and just wonder amazing views. “This is all yours now”, they said.
Il Capanno del Lupo was just what we expected based on overview and photos (thanks to Sue’s photographing skills). The house is impressive and furnished on a good taste, fitting well in its old atmosphere.
For us, the best part of being there was peace and quiet; we really needed for couple of lazy days first before we explored the medieval town of Anghiari, which was so lovely in the evening. The village of Caprese Michelangelo, the birthplace of famous Renaissance artist Michelangelo, is also worth visiting (next week we saw his amazing art both in Firenze and Venezia).
It was a memorable evening, when Sue trained my wife to bake pizza in traditional stone oven – you have to try that! And thanks John, those rosemary potatoes were delicious!
With best regards,
Sarita & Jari
Owner's Response: Thanks Sarita & Jari for your lovely words!
It was a pleasure having you to stay here and we're so glad you recharged your batteries - you certainly looked far more relaxed when you left us. So glad your Fiat 500 was actually man enough, after all, to manage our bumpy road - it's always a humorous talking point, though if you'd had a problem we'd have been quite happy to put the Fiat in our car boot and carry it up! :)
We hope to see you again when you next feel the need to escape and recharge - you will always be welcome. With best wishes, John & Sue

The ultimate 'Tuscan villa' family holiday

The ultimate 'Tuscan villa' family holiday

Our family of three adults and two children recently stayed for nine nights at Capanno Del Lupo as part of a five week European holiday.

From the moment the villa came into view from the winding driveway we were captivated! Such a serene and beautiful setting, high on the hill with the most spectacular views!

The villa is spacious over three levels with plenty of space for the family and in amazingly well equipped. Never have we stayed in a holiday rental where everything has been thought of (even shoe polish!). Spotlessly clean this is a villa that has a lot of love put into it. You understand where that comes from when you meet the hosts John and Sue. The most delightful hosts who were so helpful and friendly but did not intrude on your holiday whatsoever. Our two girls fell in love with Sophie the dog and our youngest mentioned that John and Sue were more like family than just friends.

A fabulous location with an amazing pool, we had many day trips to Cortona, Arezzo and Anghiari (our favourite of all of the hill towns).

Highly recommended as a holiday rental we would go back there in a heart beat!

The Hideaway with 'WOW!' Factor

The Hideaway with 'WOW!' Factor

We arrived in the dead of night, having driven non-stop from the UK - yes, it’s possible! Nonetheless, the reception was warm and welcoming, with glowing beacons of light shining through the darkness to show our way. The kettle was full and still warm, there was ice in the freezer, glasses chilling in the fridge and a cork eased from the neck of the bottle. The holiday had begun!

This was a return visit for us all – 4 adults and 2 children (seven and five) - so we knew what to expect. We had a bit of a late start the following morning, but John and Sue waited quietly in their own ‘quarters’ until we surfaced, ready and eager to tell us what local events and activities were being planned in the area over the coming week and what changes and new attractions were available since our previous visit.

The house was very comfortable, well-equipped and spotless, just as we remembered – a ‘home-from-home’, but better! The pool, the stunning views, the countryside, the peace….. All this to be savoured, and despite the rumbustious turmoil of two excited children, four adults unleashed on holiday and the added joy and distraction of Sophie (the adorable dog) and Hobnob (the cutest of cats).

Although this was just a short break to recharge the batteries, we made full use of the facilities on offer and made it down the mountain to Arezzo, Anghiari, Sansepolcro and Manzi, fully sampling the delights of Italian cuisine, drinks and ice cream! We also explored the local markets and shops in some depth, too.

But most of all, we relaxed and rediscovered the full meaning of enjoyment, in our family and the friendship of the hosts.

We loved it – and we’ll be back, John and Sue (and next time we’ll bring our own baked beans and Marmite!). Definitely recommended.

Lots of love,

Alan, Lindsey, Robin, Louise, Ellie and Caitlin xxxxxx

Capanno Del Lupo nestles high in the hills, mid way between the village of Caprese Michelangelo and the medieval town of Anghiari. This 200 year old farmhouse is set in 20 acres of natural Tuscan countryside and offers total privacy and seclusion with spectacular scenery. These stunning views are ideal for painting and photography. The house is perfectly situated for that relaxing, 'away from it all' escape yet is in easy reach of the historical and cultural delights that La Verna, Poppi, Arezzo, Cortona, Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia, Siena and Florence all have to offer. Day trips to Rome are also possible. The farmhouse is close to a marked route so is ideally situated for walking the surrounding hills. Also in walking distance is a restaurant offering local produce and the small hamlet of Manzi which has a grocery store selling fresh pasta and home made cakes. Oil and wine tasting is available at the local oil mill. Anghiari and Sansepolcro hold markets every week and both towns have a selection of wonderful restaurants. Cookery classes, wine tours, treks in the Tuscan hills and horse riding can be arranged on request. Enjoy the many local festivals that take place throughout the year.
