We are a family of 4 ( 2 adults and 2 children aged 6 and 4)who stayed at the property. We had previously lived in Windsor and were back in town to catch up with friends and visit local attractions. The house is in a very good central location and is in a quiet area of town. 5 mins walk to town centre along car free walkways. There is parking available for one car at the rear of the property in a shared car park ,courtesy of a neighbour. The house itself was clean and comfortable and had most of the things we needed including Sky TV and Internet connections and washer/drier. The only comment is that the kitchen could do with some larger pans so that cooking for a family is a little easier, but I understand the Owner is addressing this in the near future.
We stayed here for 3 nights as a family of 6 (4 kids aged 2 to 10). As noted in the ad, the apartment only sleeps 4, so we'd brought our own portable beds for the 2 youngest ones and it worked out fine. Very comfortable apartment with nice neutral decor and all necessary amenities including wifi and a washing machine that also dries clothes (although it takes about 8 hours to dry them and you have to remember to stop it manually since the dry-sensor doesn't seem to work). Quiet yet centrally located, slept like logs and could walk to everything - shops, castle, train to London, bus to Legoland, etc.
A few quirks: front of building (pictured in photo) is on a pedestrian-only walkway not accessible by car. Parking is in a courtyard-type alleyway in back and has to be arranged in advance, since it blocks off a neighbour's garage. Because another neighbour had recently illegally fenced off the access between the pedestrian road and the back alley, we had to load in and out via the via the back door and another neighbour's little alleyway with a very awkward gate.
We were given no instructions on how to find the place and so assumed it would be easy enough, but unfortunately our GPS did not recognize the actual address called Clewer Fields, so we selected Clewer Avenue instead, which was completely wrong. We then drove around for ages trying to find it by asking passerby, which made us late to meet the owner's greeter. Although we had an apology at the ready, we had not a second of time to utter it before he laid into us with a 10 minute tearing-down of how stupid we were to not have been able to find the place. It was a harrowing experience after a long journey with four young children who were hungry and tired, all crying in the car while we waited for the greeter (and myself) to calm down and let him show us where to park.
Aside from this extremely unpleasant beginning, we had a very comfortable stay. Had to email the owner about how to turn on the heat (was a main switch in an upstairs utility closet) and figured out the wifi code ourselves (piece of paper in same closet).
A few small things that could've made the place even better: a family-sized pot for cooking (presently only two small pots but no large one), kitchen linens, a couple of extra chairs for the dining table, and room-darkening curtains, particularly for the room with the skylight. Other than that, great value for the money (we paid £325 for 3 nights). Would come again.
We have enjoyed our stay in the property, which was nice and clean.
The service was excellent. We would definitely recommend the property to our friend. Windsor is a very nice place and we will be back there for sure in the near future. Many thanks! :)
Fly into Heathrow Airport is only 15 minutes by car from Windsor.
Windsor is home to Windsor Castle - the Queen's favourite Royal residence. Just 20 miles west of London, Windsor is charming and quaint with loads of history and less pollution than London. Windsor is based on the banks of the river Thames and William the Conqueror first built the Castle here in 1080AD. Originally part of a ring of defences around London, Windsor Castle gradually became a popular Royal residence because of the good hunting in the nearby forest. The Round Tower, along with the original outer wall, was erected for King Henry II. Further improvements and enlargements took place over the centuries until the magnificent castle we see today finally emerged in 1830. A favourite of Queen Victoria, the castle survived for most of the last century with few changes. The South East of England is very green and lush - with lovely rolling hillsides and some splendid architecture.
