Best Spot in the Whole of Ireland"

This was our, by far, best experience within Ireland with my wife and 2 kids.

From the location to the family that rents the property, an out and out excellent experience.

I really cannot say enough about The Quinn family – a beautiful family that does Castlewellan proud.

On arrival to our spotless cottage, we were greeted by John who shown the kids the surrounding grounds and animals-which blew us all away.

With a 15 year old and 11 year old, we were worrying that being a bit out in the countryside would leave them isolated, but with the amount of things

To do at the cottage-they never stopped! Everything is within 5 minutes..literally. Castlwellan town has great bars, beautiful restaurant in Maginns and

Castlewellan forest park is arguable the best in the North of Ireland.

Johns wife Siobhan has great knowledge of the surrounding area and towns and we were not disappointed when we went lookin

Reviews

Location

Special interest holidays:

The towns and villages of Mourne country are exciting destinations in their own right, also good bases for discovering the magic of the mountains. Popular resort Newcastle, 10 minutes where Slieve Donard really does 'sweep down to the sea' offers family fun, plus the bonus of mountains and championship golf (Royal County Down) on your doorstep.

Nearby Bryansford and Tollymore are centres for outdoor adventure - from the sublime to the extreme. There is pony-trekking, bouldering, canoeing, abseiling, hillwalking and even Ireland's only mountain boarding facility! Both Tollymore and Castlewellan have outstanding forest parks. Silent Valley, inland from restored harbour hamlet, Annalong, is another gem. Big plans are afoot for the Mourne area - soon to be designated a National Park.

Round the rocky coast, past busy fishing port Kilkeel, to Victorian Rostrevor. Its park begins as manicured lawns, but as you climb it becomes an arboretum, river walk and finally a mountain trail.

Coast/Beach:

Newcastle beach town and Murlough beach with wonderful walks across the sand dunes and down to the lovely sandy beach. You can walk the length of the beach to Newcastle. Murlough beach with sand dunes, heath land, and forest, surrounded by estuary and sea, make for a lovely outing on a clear, bright day, but you'll want to bring a windbreaker and some binoculars; this is a prime habitat for a host of waders and seabirds. Take a picnic, and you may find your dessert on the dunes.

Travel:

Belfast International Airport at 40 Miles.

Train station Belfast or Newry at 25 Miles.

Car hire recommended.

Distances:

Town 2 miles.

Royal county Down Golf 8 miles.

Horse Riding 2 miles.

Fishing walking distances.

Night life 2 miles.

Park 2 miles.

Further Details:

Superbly located for activities for all the family - from Kilkeel to Strangford Lough. Northern Ireland's beauty is intertwined with tragic history, rich culture and the renowned friendliness of its people. The wild craggy mountains, splendid lakes and sweeping coastline make it an ideal playground for golfers, water sports enthusiasts, walkers, cyclists, hikers, rock climbers and sailors. There are the beautiful Mountains of Mourne plus the nature reserves of Strangford Lough. But there are lots of things to keep those after a dose of culture enthralled, too. From boisterous oyster festivals to authentic horse fairs, and from ancient castles to elegant country houses, this spectacular part of Ireland is packed with things to do. So if that appeals then this is the house to book.
