A beautiful and exceptionally spacious and well equipped much loved house owned by same family for 40 years, now ready to be shared! Located on a sea plot in the heart of unique Stockholm archipelago with 30.000 islands/skerries yet only 1 hour from Arlanda airport and Stockholm. Charming seaside village 5 km with small shop/restaurant/cafe/boat trips and Norrtalje seaside town 20 mins away with superb shopping/restaurants/culture/golf courses. Situated on a calm and exclusive island without the need for ferries or boats to get there and at the end of a small, private road. The all-seasons house sleeping 9+ was designed by a well known local architect, built to a high specification on 2 floors and panoramic windows/views with guest house/sauna and 2 bathrooms/3 WCs, spacious outdoor seating areas, large lawn, BBQ. It is very secluded, quiet and peaceful with its own large private jetty/deck and easy access to 2 small shallow beaches and lovely uninhabited forest walks/jogging/skiing!
My parents designed and built this house in 1971. It is a much loved place in one of the most beautiful parts of Sweden: Stockholm Archipelago - unique with its 30.000 islands and skerries, yet only an hour away from Stockholm and airport. I and my family return there from our permanent residence in England several times a year and greatly benefit from the peace and tranquility found there: in contrast from densely populated and busy lives in the UK.
We are now ready to let others share in this unique experience!
Eva Smith purchased this in 1970
"We all thought your house was the best holiday we had ever been to. A lovely spot; well designed to benefit from the scenery. Wonderful weather and so enchanted by the house and the setting, spent the time reading, sunbathing, walking, running and exploring in the rowing boat. Incredibly relaxing and hope to come back. Great time in Stockholm too and Sigtuna, Norrtalje & Furusund. Loved Sweden and friendly, helpful people" Catherine, London
"We had a fantastic time! Your house is beautiful & homely, location stunning.Your caretaker was extremely helpful. Spot on instructions/information pack." Barry, Dublin.
"Perfect location, the area calm and house charming; had a great time there, amazing views and light at sunset, spending hours fishing; listening to birdlife; picking berries and mushrooms; there is everything you need to spend weeks there! The kitchen fully equipped for great cooking. The little house with the sauna is a must, as is the jetty!" Fabien, Sweden/France.
Together with six friends we had a lovely relaxing time in your delightful family holiday home. Your caretaker Thomas was friendly, helpful and informative and keeps the house clean and welcoming. The house is in an idyllic situation surrounded by wild billberries, strawberries and fascinating birdlife amongst trees and lakes. Lots of lovely walks and rowing boat outings and some of us had bracing swims in the Baltic out to the small island. Great breakfasts and dinners on your verandah with lovely views out over the sea and the restaurants you recommended were excellent. We enjoyed it so much so that we are taking another six friends to your house later this year.
We were a group of eight on a family trip with our own three grown up children plus partners/friends. It was a superb holiday and we all loved the archipelago house. Apart from the facilities (sea, boat, views, sauna, games etc) it's such a comfortable place and clearly a second home for the owners, with all the pictures and photos around. We really liked the feeling of being invited into that home and having a sense of its history - not like a run-of-the-mill holiday let at all. A beautiful house in a beautiful spot, with plenty of space for spreading out even if the weather keeps you indoors (which it didn't!). The owners and caretakers couldn't have been more helpful. Thoroughly recommended.
We stayed at this property for two weeks in August 2014 and would have no hesitation recommending it. The property is exactly as described and is very well kept with excellent facilities.
The two adults and four young children in our party spent most of the fortnight enjoying the property and surrounding island, with plenty of time spent swimming in the sea, playing on the beaches, fishing (we saw and caught many large fish including perch and pike right off the jetty at the property), boating, and sunbathing. In fact, we were almost reluctant to occasionally get in the car to go sightseeing. We ate out on the veranda for almost all our meals, enjoying the fresh air, quiet, and beautiful sunsets.
With plenty of space in and around the property, and a whole island to explore, the children were unusually happy to entertain themselves and we achieved the most relaxing family holiday I think we've ever had.
Special interest holidays:
This property is very suitable for small groups looking for a desirable venue for activities such as writing/yoga/fishing/photography/painting/nature holidays. The light in spring/early summer with twilight through the night is stunning and the place especially peaceful and tranquil. Fishing in spring and autumn very successful. Ample lawn and floor spaces for e.g. yoga.
Own sea/jetty access there are 2 beaches within close walking distance of house. Both are ideal for families/children. The nearest beach is 2 mins away and is quiet and picturesque, with wide sea views and a wooden diving pontoon for older children. A 2nd beach is 10 minutes walk away; this has a larger sandy, very shallow beach and is popular with local families. A good meeting place (and most Swedes speak superb English!) There are many opportunities to explore nearby islands w. ferry links.
The house is 77 kilometres from Arlanda International Airport with rental car hire. 10 mins from terminal with shuttle bus: an hour's beautiful, easy drive to house. Room for 2 cars outside house and more nearby. Car advisable, although house accessible by public transport (bus stop is 1 kilometre walk from house)with excellent bus service to Stockholm. Trains are reliable in Sweden.
5 kilometres to seaside village Furusund. 21 kilometres to seaside town of Norrtalje. 70 kilometres to capital city Stockholm.
Nearest small shop is in Furusund, where there is also a nice restaurant with sea views and cafe. Ferry across to next island with cinema, restaurant etc. Another ferry-connected island is 3 kilometres away with restaurant. 21 kilometres away is the charming, traditional seaside town of Norrtalje, with excellent supermarkets, banks, shopping, restaurants, lively music/cultural scene.
