Ski Chalet in Meribel / Le Raffort, Savoie, Rhone Alpes, France

Attractive chalet sleeping up to 12 in delightful hamlet of Le Raffort. Only 4 minutes walk from Olympic Gondola to centre of Meribel in heart of 3 valleys. Yet for nightlife loving teenagers only 15 minutes walk downhill too from Dick's nightclub. Wonderful open fire in large sitting room and can ski back for most of the season. The three valleys always has good accessible as well as challenging skiing even in poor natural snow conditions and has vast selection of wonderful mountain restaurants.

About Ann Monk

We are a family with 4 children now aged 21 - 30 one dog one cat - having had sundry other animals over the years but soon to be joined by a first grandchild. We have a DIY livery yard in the home counties

We have had the chalet for 11years and go in the Winter and Summer. as it is a great family holiday destination.

Ann Monk purchased this in 2002

Why Ann Monk chose Le Raffort

We bought the property when our children (two girls and two boys) were 9, 16, 18 and 19. We all love skiing and it is a brilliant way of keeping the family together (note the gap between the youngest and the other three) - It is a proper village with farmers and locals living in it yet the access to the main meribel resort is terribly easy. You can ski back to the door along a pretty route through the trees for most of the season.

The alps are gorgeous in summer and we love going there to walk and play golf as well as the boys doing canyoning, white water rafting and all manner of daring things down/up mountains.

What makes this unique

It is very easy to get to with good parking - the wonderful boulangerie is 5 minutes drive and opens very

early and there is a great french restaurant 4 minutes walk away open in the summer too . It is 4 minutes walk from the gondola which takes you direct to the central lift station and access to everywhere in the Three Valleys. Also only 15 minutes walk downhill from the main nightclub in Meribel yet without the noise and hassle of living in the centre of the resort. Much of the year ski back through lovely tree lined route direct to the chalet.

The village is very pretty and there is wonderful walking directly from it. No need to get in the car. The golf course is stunning - one of the best and the back 9 have been refurbished.

La Forge Review

We have just completed our one Christmas week ski vacation in La Forge and just wanted to provide some feedback.

Chalet la Forge was absolutely ideal in terms of location, facilities and homeliness for us to enjoy our Christmas ski vacation. With our group of 12, ranging from 7 years to 83 years, the Chalet quite comfortably accommodated us all without feeling cramped and we all felt entirely at home.

Location wise you get the benefit of an idyllic hamlet setting, but with the key facilities only a short walk away (bus stop, bubble lift, Martagnon Restaurant etc).

The Chalet is completely provided for in terms of facilities (cooking, laundry, bed linen etc) and the open fire is complete bonus, which adds great character and warmth to the house.

Ski conditions were pretty good even though it was still pretty early in the season. We enjoyed great ski conditions on all days with a fresh top up of snow every few days.

In summary, I strongly recommend Chalet La Forge to anyone who wishes to spend Christmas in Meribel/Le Raffort and would have no hesitation in returning there in the future.

Well-equipped home from home

  • 5 of 5

Had a week's stay here - 12 of us - and found it had ample space to accommodate (not vast - but not cramped either). Great living and dining space - fantastic open fire, comfy sofa (bit tight for 12!) and loads of DVDs, games and free internet/WIFI access. The kitchen was really well equipped - don't think we struggled for any utensil - including espresso maker, 12-people size pans/dishes, food processor, and a good size fridge freezer. Made the self catering a real pleasure! The village of Raffort is small and very picturesque - not the place to come if you're looking for wild nightlife, but ideal if you've a crowd and happy to make your own fun. And very easy driving distance to Meribel village and Meribel centre. I would happily recommend to a friend - and Ann was very helpful/prompt with info.

Brilliant Chalet

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Chalet La Forge in Le Raffort (just below Meribel) - couldn't ask for more. Friendly village, easy parking, superbly decked out chalet with wonderful open fire, abundant hot water and every mod con you could ask for including good wi-fi and 2 dishwashers! Huge dump of snow ensured fantastic skiing throughout the Trois Vallees.

Have also stayed at Chalet La Forge in the summer which I could not recommend more highly. Loads to do including epic golf course, great canyoning/river rafting/mountain biking/tennis/Go-Ape, para-gliding etc etc all very close, plus great cuisine on offer everywhere.

Excellent Service

  • 4 of 5

Our family stayed here for 1 week and we all loved it. The chalet is very cosy and has ample space for all occupants. The kitchen is on the small side, but fully equipped. The skiing/boarding back to the chalet is one of the best runs in the valley.

The bedrooms were very nice, spacious and clean, most with a great view of the valley. A boot/ski room would have been helpful, so please take note of that if the chalet is full of skiers. We managed by leaving the ski's/boards outside the backdoor and the boots in the hallway.

On the whole, Ann the owner was very helpful and also the neighbours that look after the property. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you had a lovely time - I think you mentioned that your wife wasnt skiing this time and she must have enjoyed all the cafes and bars and shopping and other things to do in the valley. Sadly planning permission doesnt run to a boot room but we always leave our equipment on our private terrace at the back like you and have never had a problem in 12 years and the underfloor heating in the chalet makes sure that all boots etc dry out well .

Amazing chalet, beautiful location, top holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with two other couples in Chalet La Forge in March. We had stayed in l before and were looking forward to going back. We loved staying in le rafflort, the chair lift up to meribel central is less than five minutes walk, the place itesl is absolutely beautifuland when the snow was good we could actually ski to the front door of the chalet. The chalet itself was amazing, so homely n front of the log fire, the kitchen was fully featured and we cooked lovely meals every night. Highly recommended chalet, we will definitely be going back.

Owner's Response: Well - it has had a coat of paint since you were there and the snow forecasts for this season are excellent . The lovely French restaurant 4 minutes walk away is still as busy as ever if you dont feel like cooking next time you come... and they have revamped some of the lifts in the Three Valleys so the skiing is even more extensive and easier to access.

New Years in Chalet La Forge

  • 5 of 5

We rented the chalet for the new years week 2012/2013, as a group of 12 including 2 75 year olds and a 1 year old we had an amazing holiday, and found Chalet La Forge perfect for our needs.

Location- All though we were concerned that the chalet is out of Meribel itself, we found this to be of no hinderance at all. We were all able to ski back to the chalet for lunch and at the end of the day. There is a gondola lift which runs straight through Le Raffort takes you in to the bottom of Meribel right where all the lifts are, which is easily within walking distance and can also be skiied to.

Meribel is 5 mins away in the gondola or 5 mins in the car or on the free bus which comes every 15 mins. Meribel itself is very lively with plenty of shops/bars/restaurants, it is nice to be a little distance away making it a quieter stay!!

Skiing- The Three Valleys is easily the best skiing that I have ever experianced, the sheer size of it ensures that you are never bored and gives you somewhere new to explore at all times. Mertibel is ideal as being in the middle valley it is very easy to reach either Courcheval or Val Thorens/ les menuires In a very short amount of time. There is also a excellent beginners area in Meribel.

The Chalet- The chalet is not massive but we found it fine for 12 people, the living area is very good with a very large sofa and a dining table big enough for our party. The bedrooms are comfy and there is definitely a more homely feel to the chalet than what I have experienced in the past. The owners were friendly, helpful and easy to deal with throughout.

Overall we were very happy with the chalet and wouldn't hesitate to book the chalet in the future.

Chalet La Forge - Great location

  • 4 of 5

I booked Chalet La Forge for a group of 8 people - 2 couples and 4 singles. It can often be difficult trying to find a place that is flexible enough to accomadate these sorts of groups but the layout of the chalet worked well for us.

The location of the chalet is excellent - it is about 150 meters above the last stop of the Olympic bubble which takes you into the Chaudanne ski area (7-8mins). If you are feeling lazy (as we were!) you can save your self a walk up and down the hill and park in the free car park for this lift. The free buses also stop at the lift station, so getting into Meribel for a drink/meal would be very easy.

The snow cover was reasonable for our week and this meant we could ski all the way back to the lift station on a lovely tree lined run.

While Le Raffort its self does not have any shops, you are a 5 min bus/car journey from the super market on the edge of meribel, so self cartering was very easy.

The chalet is well equiped with two dishwashers, a good sized fridge/freezer and even a bbq! There are also plenty of board games and a selection fo DVD's which was great after a long days skiing.

I would recommend this chalet to anyone looking for a good place to stay in the Meribel area and hope that we will be back next year!
