Situated in Bernkastel-Kues, the picturesque town centre is just a short stroll along the meandering river Mosel. The restaurant's are near by, Shops, and entertainment for something out of a fairytale book.
I am English, with a Welsh accent, I was brought up in Wales from the age of five, when I was 28 years old I exchanged the mountains of Wales for the mountain vineyards of Germany where our holiday home is, I love being in a clean environment where there is no industry,(other than the wine industry) people are friendly and the weather is warm. I speak German and I give tour's of Bernkastel.
We bought this house as its location was perfect for great walks along the Mosel river and in walking distance from shops and restaurants you name it this little town of Bernkastel-Kues has it. The house has years of history going back over 400 years! It has a Happy atmosphere. The entertainment is brilliant here too.
The house is spacious. It has every thing you need for a family holiday or Group. The walls are 90 centimetres thick which helps to keep cool on the hot summer days that can get up to 30+ the heating is on during the winter up until April or when the weather is hot! All year round there is something to do and always a festival! with wine, beer and music.
We celebrated my retirement from the U.S. AF Had a wonderful stay The House is Phenomenal! Allyson so very supportive, she felt like family. Will defenately stay again. Sarah & family
Home from Home we had a wonderful holiday at the Golden Grape. Thank you very much for the lovely welcome and all your help. We will be back, and will tell our friends about you when we get home.

Splendid in every way. Amongst the very best places we have stayed in. Most welcoming and highly recommendable! Very many thanks!

The Golden Grape is a property of great character but with all the facilities that you need for a wonderful holiday. The property is very spacious but with all the mod-cons that you would expect of a modern house. Ample parking to the front. A large modern kitchen on the ground floor along with an even larger lounge. One of the highlights of the Golden Grape was the photo album showing how Dieter and Allyson had worked over a period of 10+ years to turn the run-down building into modern and comfortable property. The bedrooms are huge, matching the beds and there was an abundance of toilets.
The property is only about a couple of minutes walk from the vineyards on the banks of the Mosel. There was a pedestrian/cycle way to the centre of Bernkastel-Kues and then across the bridge to Bernkastel itself. Trier and Cochem, along the Mosel valley, are a reasonable drive away.
On the way to Bernkastel our car developed a brake problem that needed to be dealt with. Allyson found the nearest Peugeot garage, at Wittlich, phoned them and they were waiting for us to arrive and ready to start the work. In less than two hours the work was finished and we were on our way again. Superb service all round!
As a wine lecturer I was in my element. Spoilt for choice in terms of the wines available but watch out at the tourist wine shops in Bernkastel. Far better to drive (with a driver) up or down the Mosel and do tastings at local wine producers.
We had a great time at the Golden Grape and it was a great base to explored Bernkastel Kues and the Mosel river region . Allyson and Dieter were exceptional hosts. We were given a warm welcome and the accommodations were clean, spacious and comfortable. We had everything we needed. There is so much to see and do, a beautiful part of the country and the Golden Grape is a perfect place to stay to enjoy it.
I can't fault this holiday at all.
If you want a beautiful setting, a quirky mix of a house with original features but modern facilities, great food and wine, unique architecture, great walks, good access to roads so you can explore further afield, friendly people, stunning weather, free open air music, even crazy golf with its own bar and café, then this is the place for you.
But most of all, if you want to stay somewhere with the best welcome and the friendliest host in Germany (and probably Europe), book this place now. We will definitely be back.
This was a lovely residence with a helpful and friendly host. There's a restaurant very close by and you'll be yards from the river. A short stroll along the river bank in to the heart of the town. Such a lovely location. And the building itself is lovely and old and creaky and full of character. Beautiful large room and comfortable furniture. A would highly recommend it.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here. Close to the river, very close to a few restaurants. A short walk to the old town down the river and over the bridge. In a quite residential area on the edge of town but easily close enough to walk 10/15 mins. Nice quite location. House had all the facilities required. 3 toilets. One shower. Three big bedrooms. Rocking horse. wifi. We sat out front in the evenings chatting to the passers by. All friendly and welcoming. Some even thought we were a WeinGut and tried to buy wine. This is a great central location for exploring the Mosel region. A very pretty area to be. Vine clad hills. Wooded areas, pretty river trips, cycle paths, walking, lovely old buildings, traditional town squares, vast array of restaurants, close to good road links, places to visit, parks for the kids, comfy beds, friendly hosts, skate park, parking. I highly recommend it. Come to the Mosel and stay here. You won't go wrong.
From the moment we arrived we knew we were going to have an exceptional holiday. The warm and enthusiastic welcome we received from Allyson and Dieter was the first of many delightful experiences.
We are well seasoned in 'holiday home' vacations and have experienced a wide range of properties. However this was definitely the best one we've stayed in yet.
As Allyson and Deiter were showing us around the house - giving us lots of information and history - I was very impressed to see how clean and well decorated the rooms were. The bedrooms and kitchen had lots of natural light, showing off the tasteful furnishing to its best. The two lounges had lots of easy chairs and good lighting too.
The description of the property doesn't really do it full justice. It has an outstanding mixture of 'old world charm' and fully functioning modern equipment. We were very impressed by the size of the bedrooms - even the smallest was a double - and the two lounge areas meant that we could all find space to relax indoors as well as outside. The comfort and size of the kitchen/diner was so good that we - my family of five adults - spent many happy hours around the table here.
The quality of the beds was also impressive and we all had excellent sleeping experiences, always a good thing on any holiday.
The area around BernKastel Kues is very beautiful. We really enjoyed our walks into the town during the morning for local shopping and then again in the evening - stopping to play 'mini golf' at the riverside course or take in a couple of drinks at some of the bars in the town itself.
We would also recommend trying out the local transport system too. The bus company will sell you a group ticket that allows 5 adults to travel, on buses and trains for only 35 euros per day. We started our exploring early in the morning and didn't finish 'til late at night, and the bonus was the bus stopped at the bottom of the street too! Well worth checking out.
We would like finish this review by expressing our gratitude to Allyson and Dieter for their commitment and kindness. Allyson was exceptional when helping us to sort out a problem with our car. Not only did she phone around and then take us to the garage, she stayed with us to translate and support us too. This she did without any hesitation. We will be returning to the Golden Grape in the future, not just as visitor but as friends.
