Overview

Photos and Description of this 7 bedroom holiday home in Rochefort - Marennes area - Maison Marennes

3 doubles, 2 twins, 1 twin & bunk room for 4, 1 bunk room and a small nursery

Our French home, a period property, is full of character yet fitted out with all mod cons. In the main house there is a fully equipped kitchen, dining room and large living room with L-shaped sofa, open fire, large plasma screen, Sky TV, a DVD player with films, a Mac PC, printer, fax, and wireless Lan so you can work from home if needs must. There is one en-suite bathroom, one en-suite shower room, one separate shower room and two separate loos.

In the adjoining Chai there is also a small kitchen at one end of a lovely open plan room that looks out onto the pool. The Chai also has a bathroom with loo plus a separate loo.

The house is very comfortable and well furnished but there are no white sofas, glass tables or irreplaceable items should you have an inquisitive two year old who likes to test things out! There is a delightful walled garden with a heated pool and a cobbled eating area outside the kitchen that is fenced in so wee ones can play while you are in the kitchen.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • non smoking only
  • pets not allowed
  • suitable for elderly or infirm
  • wheelchair accessible

Perfect property in MARENNES with a special charm

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time I've been on a 'girly' long weekend to Maison Marennes at the end of September. It's my favourite holiday house . No need for a car , just dander through the delightful blue door down the winding cobbled streets to the town centre with its traditional Market House, about 200 meters away. As to the house, everything is SUR PLACE. The secluded walled garden and pool make for a happy , relaxed holiday . I can thoroughly recommend this property .

Great venue for various ages family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our family group consisted of babies/toddlers/ parents and grandparents.

We arrived to find a beautiful, spotless house in a superb location, right in the centre of a picturesque village. Everything we needed could be found within a few minute's walk; croissants, market, supermarket, bars, and restaurants. Other excellent restaurants were a short drive away.

The house offered entertainment for all of us. The pool was great, there were bicycles, a games room, barbecue area and quiet areas to escape the bustle of family life.

We had lovely weather and a wonderful holiday. We intend to return!

Beautiful property in a lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

The house matches its description but offers so much more! We were on our first family holiday for five years and expectations/excitement were high. We were not disappointed! We asked if a few provisions could be in the fridge as we were arriving later on a Sunday. This was no problem and we arrived to food, drink, all the beds made and the sun still shining. The house itself is just perfect - well furnished, comfortable, spacious. The facilities are excellent - I even picked up a Ping Pong bat for the first time in about 15 years. The younger ones took the bikes out and we all basked in the sunshine around - an in - the pool. Marennes is a lovely place to be - not too big and not too small. We tried a couple of the local restaurants - both excellent - but it was so nice at the house that we preferred to go to the market and cook a meal 'at home'. We can highly recommend it!

La Vie en Rose

  • 5 of 5

Accommodation is exactly as described so no need to dwell on that.

For us the whole joy of the villa and its position is the atmosphere and the feeling that one can just slot into the french way of life totally.

Starting with the fresh croissants in the morning to the lack of other foreign tourists in the village it is like a delightful change of culture.Add that to lazy days round the pool sipping french wine at bargain prices and lots of great drives and fun visits to La Rochelle and you have the recipe for a perfect holiday.

We can't wait to go back.

Lazy Days

  • 5 of 5

Our visit to Maison Marennes was a delight - what a wonderful property, We have stayed in many self-catering properties over the years both in Britain and in Continental Europe but none has felt so welcoming - obviously a much loved family holiday home.

The house is situated in the village of Marennes and, as a result, all the local shops and even the supermarket are only a short walk away. How we enjoyed walking to the boulangerie every morning for our croissants and baguettes - a great way to start the day!

We had a lovely bedroom with french doors opening out into the garden where the sun loungers around the lovely pool beckoned us to relax with a glass of wine and a good book. This room has its own bathroom and is quite separate from the other upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms. The living room is spacious and has a traditional French feel but has the advantage of modern technology - a large television with satellite box, DVD player, etc. There are toys and games for the children and outside the trampoline is an added bonus. The kitchen has all the equipment you could possibly wish for and the large dining tables both inside and outside give great entertaining possibilities. All the rooms are spotlessly clean and kept in good condition by the friendly English caretakers who are also very knowledgeable about the area. The accommodation would suit either older guests wanting a quiet holiday or young families.

There are many interesting places and beaches to visit within easy reach but we had such sunny weather that we soent our days lounging by the pool. We had a wonderful holiday in Maison Marennes and we hope to make a return visit in the years to come.

Maison Marennes

  • 5 of 5

We had the good fortune to stay in Maison Marennes with our three sons (8, 7 and 5) in May 2011. Having rented a variety of French holiday gites in the past, we were delighted to discover the stylish and superbly-equipped Maison Marennes, undoubtedly the best of any yet experienced.

It’s a character property with cobbles under-foot, a magnificent staircase and original “people” shutter-hooks which delighted the small people in our party. The green and pleasant garden was secure and second to none, even equipped with a herb patch under the kitchen window. And although we didn’t need it, there was also a grand fireplace for the makings of a roaring centrepiece for the chillier months.

First impressions are of a classic French farmhouse, charming and an irresistibly inviting haven away from the dusty village streets. Once inside, the furnishings are to a modern and impeccable standard, hitting the ideal note between style and comfort – although the days were warm, we were grateful for the family-sized sofa in which to all cuddle up on of an evening.

As well as the ample sofa, it was clear that the owners were ready and equipped for children elsewhere too. Whilst the kitchen drawers were stocked with gadgets for even the choosiest of chefs (popcorn maker anyone?) it was the provision for the smaller diners which won my respect. There were melamine plates, a healthy supply of straws and more plastic cups than you can shake a stick at. There was also ample play-stuff on tap with drawers of handy toys and DVDs, whilst outside the pool and trampoline got used to the max!

In terms of customer care, we felt extremely well catered for, both at booking stage and during our stay, and whilst the village itself and surrounding area feel a good place to try out your school-girl French, it was a great comfort to know that the English-speaking owners and caretakers were available to help should a hiccup arise.

The previous reviewers have mentioned some of the attractions nearby. We also enjoyed the Parc Aquatique Oleo on the Ile d’Oleron, and the Chateau des Enigmes in Pons to break the journey on our way back to Bordeaux.

I’d say this was a great place to share with friends or family groups, or to luxuriate in en famille, ideal for exploring the beautiful surrounding area or indeed for a few lazy days in a private and alluring bolthole. 10/10 from us!

Car: recommended

Benefiting from the wonderful micro climate of the Cote Atlantique, Marennes is about 45 minutes from La Rochelle. Maison Marennes, a large period townhouse with walled garden and a heated pool, is two minutes from the village centre and 5 min by car/15mins by bike, from the sea. This is oyster country, the roads are flat and perfect for cycling and there are small marinas and beaches dotted along the coast with Ile D'oleron on the doorstep as well as the more renowned alternatives in Royan and La Rochelle not far away. The zoo in La Palmyre, rated as one of the best in Europe, is about a twenty minute drive away. There is also a forest climbing centre nearby. Although ideal for families with lots of fun playing in the lovely private garden with its kidney-shaped heated pool and trampoline and visiting the local beaches, zoo etc, the location has lots to offer grown-ups too with numerous excellent restaurants, great food markets, patisseries, fishmongers etc, just a stroll away.
