About Clive Young

I'm a physics teacher in a secondary school in Cobham, Surrey in the UK. I have been teaching for 31 years. I have worked for GlaxoSmithKline as an Education & Training Consultant and also for Hounslow Children's Services managing multi-agency support teams dealing with vulnerable children. In my education career, I have been a Deputy Headteacher, Head of Maths & Science, Head of Pastoral care, but now I'm just a Head of Physics and enjoying the day to day teaching. I am Chief Instructor at the local karate club (www.kobukankarate.co.uk) and have trained in Shotokan karate for 30 years. I also teach Tai Chi. A keen runner, I run the local Windsor Half Marathon each year (getting slower each time!) and run several 10Ks throughout the year. My wife, Gill, is Headteacher of a local primary school. We have 3 children (all grown up) and one adorable grandson.

Clive Young purchased this villa in 2008

Why Clive Young chose Montecatini Terme

We have always loved Italy and spent 2 years looking for a place to buy. We traveled all around Tuscany and Umbria and eventually decided on Casa Cipressi. Why? ....because in our opinion it has the best of everything. An ideal country location with beautiful views, yet only 15 minutes from civilization, hypermarkets, rail and autostrada, big town shopping. Nievole, itself is only 5 minutes drive from the medieval town of Montecatini Alto and is close to many excellent restaurants and pizzeria. The surrounding countryside is perfect for walking (and running and cycling). All the main attractions of Tuscany are in easy reach for day trips: Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Viareggio, Lucca, Arrezo, Cinque Terra, the Chianti Trail, Cortona, Volterra.

What makes this villa unique

We knew this was the right property for us when we drove up the winding road from Nievole with olive trees on either side. Then, we turned into our drive and drove down into 5 acres of olive grove and chestnut forest until we reached the house. It has outstanding views across the valley and is totally secluded. You can hear the stream flowing, there is an abundance of wildlife (deer and the occasional wild boar). The house is a traditional tuscan farmhouse dating back to the 1800's but has all the modern comforts and fittings. Above, it is a place to relax and enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

From the moment we drove down through the olive groves for the first time I knew we were in for a treat. The Villa has spectacular views across the valley which the terrace and the bedroom window look out on to. The villa is furnished to a high standard and beautifully clean. You have the best of both worlds, on the one hand a Tuscan rural retreat and the other a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely spacious bathroom. The bedroom is very tastefully decorated and has many charming features. The stream can be heard whilst lying in bed with the window open , debating on the days travel plans to the many nearby pretty villages. We're going back.

Charming, cosy Tuscan retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Castagna in August and it was fabulous. The warm wlecome from Clive and Gill was beyond expectation and the welcome information was thorough and so useful to help us plan our stay. The villa is charming - cosy for a romantic getaway, yet fresh, modern and well furnished. They have thought of everything you may need for a self catering stay! The views out across the valley are incredible and the Villa is a mere 5 mins drive from the beautiful Montecatini Alto where you are spoilt for choice with lovely hilltop restaurants and sights. We had a lovely relaxing time here and it is the perfect base for exploring Tuscany
