I'm a physics teacher in a secondary school in Cobham, Surrey in the UK. I have been teaching for 31 years. I have worked for GlaxoSmithKline as an Education & Training Consultant and also for Hounslow Children's Services managing multi-agency support teams dealing with vulnerable children. In my education career, I have been a Deputy Headteacher, Head of Maths & Science, Head of Pastoral care, but now I'm just a Head of Physics and enjoying the day to day teaching. I am Chief Instructor at the local karate club (www.kobukankarate.co.uk) and have trained in Shotokan karate for 30 years. I also teach Tai Chi. A keen runner, I run the local Windsor Half Marathon each year (getting slower each time!) and run several 10Ks throughout the year. My wife, Gill, is Headteacher of a local primary school. We have 3 children (all grown up) and one adorable grandson.

We have always loved Italy and spent 2 years looking for a place to buy. We traveled all around Tuscany and Umbria and eventually decided on Casa Cipressi. Why? ....because in our opinion it has the best of everything. An ideal country location with beautiful views, yet only 15 minutes from civilization, hypermarkets, rail and autostrada, big town shopping. Nievole, itself is only 5 minutes drive from the medieval town of Montecatini Alto and is close to many excellent restaurants and pizzeria. The surrounding countryside is perfect for walking (and running and cycling). All the main attractions of Tuscany are in easy reach for day trips: Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Viareggio, Lucca, Arrezo, Cinque Terra, the Chianti Trail, Cortona, Volterra.
We knew this was the right property for us when we drove up the winding road from Nievole with olive trees on either side. Then, we turned into our drive and drove down into 5 acres of olive grove and chestnut forest until we reached the house. It has outstanding views across the valley and is totally secluded. You can hear the stream flowing, there is an abundance of wildlife (deer and the occasional wild boar). The house is a traditional tuscan farmhouse dating back to the 1800's but has all the modern comforts and fittings. Above, it is a place to relax and enjoy.
We were a group of 7 and used Villa Olivo as a base to do day trips around Tuscany and it was perfect. The villa is beautifully decorated, well heated and extremely clean and spacious. The views are magnificent over the neighboring countryside. As it is a bit out of town, a car is a must. I would highly recommend this villa, either as a base to visit Florence, Pisa, Siena or Lucca or just as a place to relax and enjoy the local beauty.

Liked best: The beauty of the region, and the presentation and spaciousness of the villa
Thanks for a wonderful holiday, this was truly a beautiful place to stay, with lovely views across the valley and a feeling of tranquillity and isolation in the villa grounds. The perfect place to relax after days of sightseeing around Florence, Pisa and Lucca! The villa was very spacious and nicely laid out, 6 of us had plenty of room to stretch out in and there is plenty of land for morning walks in the olive groves and woods. The nearby town of Montacatini is worth a visit and the views from the top of the alto are simply stunning! Overall this was a fantastic holiday with a nice mix of sightseeing in Florence, Pisa and Lucca with plenty of time to relax at the villa and soak up the Tuscan countryside. Highly recommended.
What a way to enjoy the beauty of the Tuscan countryside in these fabulous Villa's set deep in stunning gardens and Olive groves! This really is the true Tuscany experience we were hoping for!!
Close to Pisa airport, we hired a car and drove through beautiful countryside to 'Nievole', down the winding driveway to our own stunning secluded retreat. The views are absolutely breathtaking and we spent hours wandering the grounds enjoying a stream and rolling scenery. The Villa's themselves are modern and luxurious with ample space for 10 people across the two Villa's, large and well decorated bedrooms and ultra-modern bathrooms. It really is fantastic value for money here.
Each day we drove to explore the wonders of the region - Florence is a must-see with all it's attractions, the walled town of Lucca and the stylish Montecatini aswell. Once we wandered through the busy medieval streets, taking in the sights, taking advantage of the designer shopping and enjoying some excellent food and 'Vino's', we were delighted to make the short journey back to our 'retreat' in the hillside where we could cook our own Italian cuisine in comfort and feel truly relaxed in our environment - just what a Tuscan holiday should be!
We were very lucky with the weather too, every day being warm and sunny which meant that once we had seen the Florentine 'tourist' sights, (Dumo/ Art Galliries etc) we could lie on the beaches near Pisa and swim in the thermal springs in Montecatini, soaking up the Italian sun! The whole atmosphere of the holiday was relaxing and care-free and much of this was because of the Villa we stayed at. Some days we simply stayed in the grounds enjoying a leisurely breakfast, anti-pasti, pastas and pizza and a selection of locally grown wines!!
This really was a unique holiday that seemed to shed away the stresses of life as soon as we drove down that winding gravel drive!
We have stayed at other Italian Villas in the past that are nowhere near as pituresque and did not cater for our needs. The hustle and bustle of busy hotels and resorts does not compliment the surroundings like this place does. The mixture of a traditional Tuscan farmhouse exterior and modern interior is just what we were looking for and it was within 40mins of all the attractions!
We've already been in touch with Clive and Gill about a return with some other friends next year!
Value for money, spacious and stunning, see you in 2012!

We recently spent a lovely week early in the season in this villa in the hills above Nievole, away from roads and noise and yet with easy access to all local facilities.
We were in the newer of the two parts of the house; the bedrooms were large, clean, light and airy, all with beautiful views over the typically Tuscan hills and valleys in which the farmhouse is set. The kitchen is newly fitted and very well equipped and everything functioned well. There are, usefully, good bathroom/shower facilities on each floor, and the lounge and dining areas were comfortable and more than adequate to our needs. There is a terrace area all around the house with some parts shaded and others open to the sun and we spent a good deal of time there enjoying the stunning views over the surrounding countryside.
The house is newly and very sensitively renovated and ongoing finishing touches are still being made to interior detail and to the considerable grounds in which the house is set, but the owners are keen to provide everything possible for a comfortable stay and in no way did the newness of the project result in any lack of provision or in any way detract from our enjoyment of the property.
The house is spectacularly located; it really is a short drive to Florence, Pisa, Lucca, the coast and the lovely Chianti region and local villages, such as the lovely Montecatini Alto, provide beautiful settings for a host of good restaurants and cafes, which we enjoyed enormously.
It was a very good stay and we enjoyed our time there.
Nestled high in the beautiful Montecatini area, this spacious Tuscan farmhouse boasts stunning views and a tranquil Tuscan lifestyle set in 5 acres of olive groves and chestnut forest.
Perfectly situated, 30 minutes from the ‘Leaning Tower’ and airport of Pisa and 35 minutes from the historic renaissance city of Florence, this traditional style holiday home is suited to a variety of holiday-makers keen on enjoying the delights of the Tuscan region.
Just 1 hour from the Chianti trail wine region and one and a half hours from Sienna, the accommodation caters for large parties and families (up to 8) searching for a cultured tour of the area as well as couples seeking a quiet retreat enjoying Montecatini and the charming nearby medieval walled town of Lucca (30 minutes). With the Abetone ski resort an hour’s drive North and the white sandy beaches of popular Viarregio the same distance West, there are bountiful nearby excursions for all to enjoy from this idyllic starting point.
