York is a beautiful ancient walled city dating from Roman times with many historical sites. The city is home to some excellent museums including the National Railway Museum which now houses the world famous Flying Scotsman. This train now runs between York and Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast during the summer months.
York has many visitor attractions (too many to list here), including two world famous attractions, 13th century York Minster is the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe and the Jorvic Viking Centre where you are transported underground in Time Cars to explore the sights, sounds (and smells!) of the Viking city of Jorvic.
The city holds many festivals throughout the year including the Jorvic Viking Festival every February and there is always something going on to entertain, amuse and delight the visitor. York also boasts many fine shops, restaurants and theatres and claims to have more pubs than there are days in the year.
