Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Almogia - La Casa de Piedra

3 bedrooms, sleeps 6, 2 bathrooms, open kitchen/dining room and long main room

La Casa de Piedra is an interestingly designed, well-equipped villa with with superb, panoramic views. It has a roof terrace, a fabulous, large pool and landscaped gardens, with lots of different areas to sit and enjoy a cool beer, a shady patio at the back including a fountain and olive trees below within its extensive grounds. It is located in the small community of El Curato, but is very private and enjoys uninterrupted views across the hills. It is furnished and equipped in a style fitting in with the 'Moroccan' feel of the villa. Air conditioning in much of the house also provides heating, together with a log-burning stove and a gas, wood-burning effect stove for colder evenings. The kitchen has everything you need including an American style fridge/freezer. The comfortable main room has TV and HiFi. Outside a large barbecue, a gazebo for welcome shade on a hot day, sun loungers, several tables and chairs for sunny breakfasts and evening meals on the balcony by the lit-up pool.

A stunning villa for a beautiful region

  • 5 out of 5
We've stayed at this lovely villa twice in the last 4 years. Our most recent visit was last week and we had such a lovely time that we will definatley be visiting for a third time as soon as we can!
The views are absolutely spectacular and the location is perfect for us. With a family of two small children, there was enough to do poolside for the children and the villa was secluded so was a nice retreat for us grown-ups to relax a little.
With the remote location we could enjoy some quiet time but with Almogia nearby we could always top up food from the local supermarket only 10km away. We also took the opportunity to drive to Mijas for the waterpark (for the children!) and they loved it (c45 minute drive).
Weather was perfect c32 degrees at it's coolest during the day so the pool didn't require heating. We visited in late September on the previous visit and it was around 27c from memory so still very pleasant.
For those adventurous enough to do some hill running, the views are worth it alone, c10KM to Almogia and around the same the other way for a good uphill run. Roads are surprisingly well maintained for such little traffic and driving through the ranges were good fun!
This is a great retreat for couples/families and has a convenient annex should you want to take grandma to do some babysitting (we may well do this next time!)

A magnificent location

  • 5 out of 5
Casa Piedra is a beautiful, well equipped villa set in the most stunning and magnificent scenery. The photos are lovely but the real thing is much better !! We will never forget dining by the beautiful lit up pool at night with a cool breeze and the many stars above us, it was magical.
The owners, Graham and Gill were very helpful and flexible with our booking which helped greatly when lining up the most convenient flights/changeover day etc. A very generous 'welcome food pack' was left for us which helped enormously as we arrived on a Sunday when all shops were shut. The generosity continues in the villa where everything you could possibly wish for is supplied - a real 'home from home'.
We spent many long hours trawling through websites trying to find the most perfect villa in a stunning location that ticked all the boxes for us. This is definitely the place for that special holiday.. look no further

Lovely house & garden in an unspoilt part of Spain

Lovely house & garden in an unspoilt part of Spain
  • 5 out of 5
We have just had a wonderful holiday at this lovely spacious house & have nothing but praise for it. It was clean & unusually well equipped.
If anything the photos don't do it justice.
The welcome pack was the most generous we have ever had. The beds were very comfortable & the satellite TV had all the Freeview stations in English ( we were there when Wimbledon was on so this was a bonus ! ).
Although it is actually in a complex of houses just outside Almogia it feels totally isolated, having to be reached by a very rough track. The surrounding countryside is totally unspoilt & typical of the real inland Spain which we love. The rocky garden, full of flowers & interesting trees seems like an extension of this countryside & is absolutely charming. We did our best to keep it watered as requested ! It has several shady spots with chairs & tables where one can relax.
The beautiful pool is large & just the right depth. It was ideal for our grandchildren aged 9 & 5.
But for us the best thing is the absolutely stunning view from the end of the pool looking over the surrounding hills - just fabulous !
We know Andalucía well so we didn't feel the need to travel far, but lots of useful information was provided about places to shop, visit, eat, etc. We won't forget in a hurry the wonderful meal & service we had at Antonio's.
We did visit the delightful village of Almogia & the interesting castle at Antequerra, as well as the amazing El Torcal. We also loved exploring the area around the house.
All in all, a really fantastic place. The owners, Graham & Gill, were extremely friendly, helpful & kind over all aspects of our arranging the holiday & we can't thank them enough.
Definitely a place to recommend to friends, & to go back to.

Casa de Piedra - November 2012

  • 5 out of 5
Perfect Spanish villa for unwinding and relaxation.
Very privately located with awesome views.
The spacious villa was very clean and well equipped.

When we arrived we were welcomed by Kelly, the Concierge, who gave some useful tips on where to eat and places to visit. She even provided breakfast for the next morning, because we arrived late in the evening.

During our stay in November we didn't have the courage to take a swim in the pool (it was a tad bit cold). Relaxing on a cozy couch at the fireplace was a nice alternative. During the day we went sightseeing in Granada, Malaga and Ronda and did some hiking.

Communication with the owners was very pleasant.
All in all we had a wonderful time!

If you want a restful, ‘get away from it all’ place, where you can enjoy scenic roads, visit interesting places and get down to the beaches of Costa del Sol, this is it! The villa has superb, panoramic views over hills to the sea. Nearby Almogia is a whitewashed hill-side village, with steep, narrow streets, small corner shops, restaurants and typical Spanish bars. There is a much greater range of shops, restaurants and bars in the town of Villanueva. Malaga and Antequera are more up-market and offer entertainment including flamenco dancing, also history and places of interest (eg Picasso museum, Botanical gardens and Antequera's caves, bull ring and a fascinating castle and Alcazar). Magnificent traditional Ferias in the larger cities and local fiestas in smaller villages happen at different times of the year with dancing, parades of horses and general partying! Family days out include water parks, zoos, the El Chorro gorge with its three turquoise lakes, the El Torcal Nature Reserve with amazing limestone formations and walks, the Lobo (Wolf) Park and Fuente do Piedra lagoon, famous for its flamingos, all within 30-60 minutes drive. You can also venture further to places such as Granada (with the stunning Alhambra), Ronda (with its famous gorge and massive bull ring - the largest in Spain), Cordoba (with its beautiful Mezquita) and Seville (with its cathedral and Alcazar) Along the coast there is Torremelinos and Marbella to the west and Nerja to the east, all with beautiful beaches (and nightlife too.)

Notes:
The kitchen is very well equipped, with an American style fridge freezer and lots of cupboard space. Kitchen, dining area and long living room have a spacious, open plan, L-shaped form, tiled throughout. It is light and airy, cool in hot weather. There's lots of space around the pool, on the tiled roof terrace, and a long patio at the back of the house; it is all very private. Sun-loungers, smaller tables and chairs are available in a variety of places, taking advantage of sun and shade and different views. A larger table for 6, shaded by a permanent gazebo, overlooks the balcony view down to the sea. The grounds are extensive, with olive trees below and an interesting, sloping rocky garden above the pool area, with cacti, other succulents, bushes and interesting, winding paths. Cot and high chair for hire from our local reps, who can also provide baby-sitting, a 'taxi' service and additional cleaning at reasonable rates.
