A Cottage only 50 metres from the beach in an elevated position.
Overlooking Ventnor's beach and coastline 'Stonesthrow' cottage is the perfect location for a family holiday. Private parking right outside the house. A minute's walk to the esplanade and the beach, the cottage is in a cul de sac just above the esplanade. Ventnor is the perfect location from which to explore the island being 35 minutes from Yarmouth, Ryde and Newport. The attractions of the island appeal to all age groups - fun parks, zoos and safe bathing beaches for the young - historical buildings (Osborne House, Carisbrook Castle), sailing, scenic walks, good restaurants and pubs plus much else for all the family.
Ventnor is a town of just 7000 inhabitants built in a warm and sheltered hollow facing south, just below the highest hill on the island - St Boniface at 800'. The town has gained a reputation as the 'foodie' capital of the island with a large number of restaurants, cafés, bars and pubs offering a wide and varied choice of cuisine. Stonesthrow cottage is ideally suited to explore the town on foot with the esplanade and its 3 restaurants, two pubs (including the famous 'Spyglass' Inn voted No 1 pub on the island), wine bar and 4 cafés all less than 5 minutes walk. Above the cottage the town centre is also 5 minutes walk way - three supermarkets, post office, many pubs, restaurants and independent shops.
Hemmed in by landslip, St Boniface and the sea Ventnor's population has not grown in 140 years. The town became famous and popular in Victorian times for its warm and healthy climate attracting many famous figures of the day - Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield here, Algernon Swinburne lived here, Edward Elgar enjoyed his honeymoon in Ventnor and Karl Marx spent his last winter here. Ventnor and the adjoining villages of St Lawrence and Bonchurch still host many splendid Victorian mansions.
Stonesthrow Cottage has a large private parking space (enough for 2 cars) directly in front of the steps that lead up to the small elevated front garden with grass and borders of flowers and shrubs. There is a swing seat, bench seat and charcoal BBQ - the house faces due south.
The front door leads into the hallway off which is - the sitting room with French doors and sea views, the kitchen and open plan dining room with cloakroom. Stairs lead to the upstairs hallway, the main bedroom with French doors and balcony looking directly out to sea with adjoining bathroom/ wet room & small bath.

About Alastair Kennedy
We have lived in Ventnor for 15 years fulfilling a dream to live with the sound of the surf. We go bobbing about on the sea in the summer studying the Greek Islands so the house is empty which led us to here.
Alastair Kennedy purchased this cottage in 2005
Why Alastair Kennedy chose Ventnor
In a perfect position between the beach and town, comfortable, with a spectacular outlook of sand, surf, sea & cliffs plus the sound of breaking waves and the cry of the seagulls. Ideal for a family holiday with the beach just a safe 2 minute stroll away - lifeguards in the summer.
What makes this cottage unique
Ventnor's setting is unique - surrounded by hills and the sea. The town is somewhat removed from the madding crowd of the summer season, but everywhere on the island is no more than 35 minutes away.
Music capital of the IOW.
