little gem

  • 5 out of 5
I have stayed in the cottage twice with my parents (from France) and daughter. It is a lovely little cottage - tiny but incredibly well organised (it makes you consider at all that badly used space at home!)- and the area is fantastic. We never tire of it. The cottage is particularly well situated because there is a lot to do around it with or without a car: there’s the harbour below .. and its coffee shop, the beach, the lovely walk to whitepark bay, to the rope bridge, it’s handy to the shop and pubs in the village, etc.
There is a lovely track along the cliffs that loops around. The cottage is just on the way and it makes for a very nice evening stroll.
Unfortunately this year every walk was punctuated by a shower.. which gave us magnificent rainbows (to my daughter's delight) but didn't allow us to live outside as much as we had last September (when we had been able to eat outside most days -lovely view of the white church, sea, sheep island and Rathlin from the table outside on the front lawn).
So lovely place... I would highly recommend it as long as nobody books when I want to go : )
Nathalie.

easy to find, great location, quick to heat!

  • 4 out of 5
great walks from door, close to Giants Causeway etc etc...all as in info given before arrival. other 2 cottages not occupied and only 2 of us in Northern Star so cant comment on 'crowd-ability', and the weather was good, so cant comment on being housebound on bad weather days. didn't use tv. was surprised that there was no microwave...but survived! otherwise well equipped. would recommend.

Honeymoon stay in Northern Star

  • 4 out of 5
At first when entering the cottage we thought it was tiny...... although compact, it is perfectly formed, furniture layout great and equipped with all that you need. Location is absolutely perfect (especially so close to Ballintoy Harbour) with stunning views all round and a fantastic base for exploring the Causeway Coast. Would highly recommend this cottage to friends and family. The Fullerton Arms is a 10 minute walk from the property. Service is excellent, food is exceptional and reasonably priced. So much to see in the area, 1 week isn't enough. Despite having to cram it all in we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We couldn't have picked a better location for our honeymoon and no doubt we will return, if not for our first anniversary, certainly in the future.

Just the Right Size

  • 4 out of 5
When we arrived at the cottage I was a little taken aback by how small it is. Over our stay I realized that I can't imagine why I would've needed or wanted more space. The cottage was very cozy and easy to keep warm. We really were only there to wind down in the evenings and maybe to stop back for lunch. We were able to make all our own meals, although I wasn't quite sure where the sharp knives they mentioned were. We were able to cut up our potatoes with what we found though! We were able to explore down in Ballintoy Harbour, Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, Giants Causeway, and Dunluce Castle. The Causeway was by far our favorite! Although our 3 and 5 year old daughters really enjoyed Dunluce castle. Our weather was a little rough but despite the wind and rain we made it across the rope bridge. All in all a wonderful place to stay if you want to enjoy Northern Ireland. My only complaints would be that the oil ran out on our last night and so we ended without hot water and having to bundle up for the evening. Since we didn't realize it until late we didn't see the point in trying to get the owners over to fix it. I also was a little nervous because I had some issues reaching Clem and Jayne by email before our trip, but ultimately it wasn't a big deal because they'd provided us all the info we needed to get into the cottage. Thank you so much for a memorable adventure!!!

Great Wee Place

  • 4 out of 5
The Northern Star Cottage is a fantastic base to see all the wonderful sites the Antrim coast has to offer. Ballintoy is so beautiful and the people we met were very friendly.
The beds were clean and comfortable.
The sun shone right into the front windows in the morning and into the back in the evening so we really did not have much need for the central heating to be on but when we did the cottage was really warm in 5 minutes. The wood burning stove was a nice treat but we only lit it the last night as the cottage was so cozy.
There were some lovely touches such as Denby mugs and beautiful 100% Wool throws and bikes etc.
Now for the down side. If I am to be brutally honest, the kitchen doors are dark imitation wood, foil wrap, that were starting to peel off. This cottage is so quaint it deserves solid wood kitchen doors that could even be freshened up on occasion with satin wood paint if needed. Most of the large dinner plates had lots of chips and chunks out of them. I expect this was due to there being no dish drainer or basin.
The shower was only a trickle if the heating was on, but this did not cause us any bother as we did not need the heating on very much.
The shower door frames where quite mouldy and all the window curtains could do with a wash.
Please, don't let these few down sides put you off staying here as it really is a wonderful Place, with issues that could be easily remmedied.
We had a fabulous week and would recommend it, but just a shame, a few things let it down.
Clem and Jayne give you excellent info when you book and I wish them all the very best for the future. Also, thank you to them for the 2 lovely bottles of wine.
Cheers x.

Traditional Cottage

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed one week in the Northern Star Cottage at the Antrim north coast. Located in Ballintoy, between Ballycastle and the Giant’s Causeway it is a perfect place for touring the coastal region and the glens of Antrim. As a traditional Irish Cottage it is not very spacious, but comfortable and cosy. In the kitchen we found everything we needed. As it was almost tropical hot the entire week, we enjoyed the fire in the log stove only once at the only one colder evening.

The Causeway coast is rich with natural beauty and good places to eat. Only a few minutes away from your traditional Irish cottage you find such wonders as the Giants Causeway, Whitepark Bay, Torr Head, Rathlin Island,

The White Rocks Portrush and the Bush river that feeds the famous Busmills Irish Whisky Distillery. Great resturants and traditional pub fare helps to replace the calories lost on the beautiful coast walks. The National Trust has protected many miles of beautiful walks along beaches that join cliff tops to headlands from where you can watch the flow and ebb of the great tides that sweep in an out of the Irish sea from the North Atlantic. Fishing is rich as is the sea bird life on Rathlin, reached by regular daily ferry crossings or with fast RIBs that offer tours of the area. Some of Ireland's most famous golf clubs such as The Royal Portrush are only a few minutes away from your base in Ballintoy. To the south the majestic 7 Glens of Antrim are only half an hour away.

Other Activities: coastal sea trips, nature trails.

Golf: Ballintoy is located between the world renowned Royal Portrush and Ballycastle Golf Club. The beautiful Bushfoot Golf Club is a few minutes drive. All three clubs boast North Atlantic beach fronts. There are some 7 Golf Clubs in the area.
