My husband and I first visited Abaco and Casuarina Point in 1996. We were hooked! We vacationed there with our 3 sons and decided to purchase property and build our dream, beach home - Abaco Palms, in 2005. We built a two bedroom house, Kokomo,in 2009 and have added Camp David, a 3 bedroom 3 and 1/2 bath, and Calypso, a 4 bedroom 2+bath house in 2013. Our now grown sons still LOVE to spend family time in Abaco at Casuarina Point. To us it is heaven on earth!
Kathy Heacock - email is always best, since I am often out of the country. purchased this house in 2005
Casuarina Point is a unique location. We enjoy the beautiful, crystal clear shallow water in front of the house, and we are protected by the reef out front that is so fun for snorkeling and fishing. There are many uninhabited islands to explore - private beaches for swimming and picnics - blue holes to explore - bone fish to catch - nature to discover - the list can go on and on! It is a great location for kayaking - we have 4 that the main house and guest house share. We more a 16' Carolina Skiff in front of the house and it is perfect for exploring the area. This is not possible at most ocean front beach houses - the reef's protection makes it possible. Our white sand beach stretches for miles - a perfect walking, exploring beach. Try it - you will be hooked, too!
All of our rentals include use of 16' Carolina Skiff. There is a boat moored in front of each house for your use to go fishing, snorkeling, or exploring the many small islands in the area. There is a Vita SPA hot tub on each deck, and 12 kayak, 6 paddle board, and 3 knee paddle board for our guests use for exercise and exploring. The houses and decks have spectacular views -and you walk right out on the beautiful, white sand beach with crystal clear water. It is a setting that can't be beat!
A piece of Paradise. We stayed at Kathy and Gary s Calypso rental home. It was perfect. My husband who loves to fish was not disappointed and the location beautiful. Sand beach and beautifully decorated home with lots of amenities close by. This was the perfect vacation spot
I stayed at camp David with my husband and three boys ages 13, 11, and 9. The house and location was exactly as we had hoped, beautiful and perfect! The owners, Kathy and Gary were wonderful. They were helpful in so many ways to make sure we had a perfect vacation. They helped us coordinate a spear fishing trip with a local named Glen. Glen was also top notch. He was more than accommodating with our group. Not only did he take us spear fishing but gave the boys a banana tube ride off the back of the boat. To end our outing he took us to a "Blue Hole" which we all, including my 75 year old father and 70 year old mother all jumped into. That was a once in a lifetime opportunity which you could never find without a local. It was an awesome day for all of us. Camp David is an ideal place to enjoy relaxing and doing nothing but was also capable of keeping three busy boys active and outside fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and exploring for a week. None of us were ready to go home. We definitely recommend camp David or renting any other property from Kathy. We not only left with great memories but felt like we made friends with the Heacocks. We hope to return for another week maybe two!
The houses were well taken care of, gorgeous location, and had all the amenities one would need. The family enjoyed walks on the beach at low tide, boating, fishing, kayaking, and snorkeling. This is definitely a place I will go back to.
February 2015 we stayed at the Calypso House at Abaco Palms and had a fabulous vacation. Snorkeling, fishing playing in the sand. Finding shells with the kids. Exploring the little islands and just spending time with the family. Kathy and Gary have included everything a family would need. Boat, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, beach toys, hammock, beach chairs. Inside there were movies and games. The kitchen was also well stocked. We will definitely be back.
The calypso house at Abaco Palms was amazing. Owners Kathy and Gary were on the island and helped us out whenever we needed it. The location of the house on the beach was perfect for the toddlers in our group with perfect white sand and shallow water. The boat was great for running around and fishing and diving the area. We ate fresh caught fish, conch, and lobster every day. With the chilly weather we had at times during the trip we used the hot tub on a regular basis. Nothing like listening to the waves while soaking in the hot tub with a drink in hand after an outing of diving from the boat or kayaking. We even had a fire on the beach one night under a sky full of endless stars. I highly recommend both the house and the owners for a perfect vacation. We will definately be back.
We stayed at Abaco Palms with my wife and three children (ages 11,8,9 months) and my in-laws Feb 1-7, 2015 at Camp David. Everything we needed was at Camp David. A few of my favorite things:
-The Beach is literally just off the back porch with shade, palm trees, a hammock
-It was a little cold (water and air) in February so we used the hot tub frequently
-Wonderful SUP's with carbon paddles (high quality). Take off from Camp David to the right to the lagoon/marsh and you will see multiple sea turtles.
-Bring a GPS watch if you have one to better locate the Reefs for Snorkeling
-Kathy has thought of everything for families--beach toys, games, DVD's.
-WiFi worked with no problems.
-We ordered Sushi one night and it was delicious and fair priced.
-Be aware that few Restaurants are open in MH on Mondays. Restaurants are pricey. Wish we would have known you can get Lobster on the side of the road for $7.
-My daughters found plenty of seashells.
-Pack n play was available for our son.
I certainly recommend Camp David.
