A SHINING EXAMPLE

  • 5 out of 5
Basically for our first trip to Ireland this cottage exceeded our expectations. On arrival the owners greeted us with a welcoming bottle of red and a fresh-baked artisan loaf. And things only got better. The cottage was a delight. Beautifully furnished and comfortable. If the proof of really great accommodation lies in the ability to feel truly relaxed by doing nothing and just admiring the view, then this is just the cottage. Would I recommend it to friends? Naturally. But it was so good, I'd prefer to keep it a secret! A truly memorable holiday.

TOTALLY EXCEEDED OUR ALREADY HIGH EXPECTATIONS!

  • 5 out of 5
This cottage and surroundings were breathtaking! The cottage was very tastefully decorated and included everything you could possibly need. It was well-maintained and spotlessly clean. It was hard to tear ourselves away from the large picture window facing the ocean to do any touring. It is so peaceful, but at the same time, we were made to feel part of the little community at Roche's Point. The neighbors next door and down the hill went out of their way to introduce themselves and invite us in for a chat. They were also very helpful with any questions we had. The owners greeted us with homemade bread and wine and explained how very thing worked. They were available by e-mail for any additional questions. Wifi is also available...a nice bonus. Although this cottage is a bit off the beaten path, we were able to take day trips as far as Mizen Head and Dingle Peninsula. Cobh and Kinsale are very nice towns to visit. There is a great restaurant just a few miles away called Pepperstack Bistro connected with Rosie's bar and a nice grocery in Whitegate, also close by. We would definitely recommend this place. It was a wonderful experience.

STAR PLACE TO STAY

  • 5 out of 5
An exceedingly well appointed property. The views are spectacular and the local population are very friendly. Would love to go back again. 5 beds and two living rooms means there is space for everyone. Wifi is good, We used the outside balcony a lot as the weather was excellent.

GREAT PLACE TO UNWIND

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed at the cottage for one week, and it was just too short. It's just the perfect place to unwind, sitting down at the cough in the kitchen, looking out over the ocean, seeing the small and big boats pass. Even our 15 year old didn't want to leave the house.
As been said before, the neighboors are very kind and welcoming. We loved the lighthouse tour Gordon gave us. The house looks in real even better than on the pictures, it was all quiet overwhelming.
So many thanks for Malcolm and Gerrie for letting us stay there.

BEST HOLIDAY WE'VE EVER HAD!!!

Best holiday we've ever had!!!
  • 5 out of 5
For as long as I can remember I've wanted to visit Ireland. Finally it worked out this year and we could honestly not have picked a more perfect spot than the magnificent Lighthouse Cottage.

We were greeted in the house personally - thanks for the bread and the wine, Gerrie and Malcolm! We enjoyed both very much! I've never experienced a lovelier welcome in any holiday home I've ever stayed in!

The house itself is just absolutely beautiful. It's spacious and each room has such immense character and is full or warmth that you can't feel anything but at home there. Our favourite spot, day and evening was surely the wonderfully decorated kitchen with those stunning views out to sea. I could have glad sat there for the entire three weeks we stayed in the cottage.

The setting is, well, stunning to say the least. The photos on this site, while already giving a good impression, simply cannot do the beauty of it justice. It is even far more breathtaking in reality!

You do of course need a car to get around but I would generally suggest that when travelling to Ireland. Roches Point is a great spot for trips all over Cork and even beyond. We made trips as far as Kilkenny and Beara Peninsula and still had time enough in the evening for a glass of Guinness on the terrace, watching the ships come in and out of Cork harbour.

Best of all though is Roches Point itself and its lovely inhabitants. We had the pleasure of getting to know some of the permanent residents there and it made leaving a lot harder than it already was.

Having dreamt of a holiday in Ireland for a long time, my expectations were high. Our stay at Roches Point far exceeded those and made me fall in love with the country and particularly the area around Roches Point. I will definitely come back sometime for another wonderful holiday.

Thanks to Gerrie and Malcolm for allowing us to enjoy their beautiful cottage!!!

WE LOVED IT!

  • 5 out of 5
The location is spectacular and the cottage is just beautiful! The views are just as depicted in the photos which makes it very difficult to tear yourself away from the living/dining/kitchen area that faces the Atlantic Ocean. The "cottage" is spacious, clean and very inviting. There is also a nice den that faces Cork Harbour that I would have loved to have spent time but we just couldn't leave the views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Our stay was much too short so my husband and I plan to return to spend all of our stay on Roche's Point! Thank you Malcolm and Gerri!
