Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Cotignac - Le Moulin de Cotignac

Self catering property, sleeps 4, in private gardens with pool.

Le Moulin is a restored 16th Century olive oil mill situated minutes away from the village of charming, medieval Cotignac. This self catering apartment was designed to incorporate the wonderful Provencal light and views to the private garden can be seen from every window. The architect combined the old olive mill wall with a modern living space which gives the apartment a relaxing, quiet ambiance.

The apartment is on two floors, with two bedrooms, a galleried landing, and bathroom with an unusual feature mirror set into the old wall. An open, wooden staircase leads down to an open plan living area, incorporating dining, kitchen and lounge seating. This area is furnished to reflect the colours and traditions of Provence.

The terrace, reached by French windows from the living area, looks down on private gardens in which the shared pool is situated. The pool is surrounded by a charming patio shaded by fig and mulberry trees.

All about Cotignac, Provence: Cotignac is all one would expect of a Provencal village with narrow streets, shady squares with fountains and old pantiled houses. It is an ideal centre for visiting the Mediterranean coast, Italy, the Pre-Alps and the Camargue. In Summer it provides all we long for in a warmer climate. In Spring and Autumn one can lunch on the terrace, walk in the afternoons, and light a fire to sit by in the evening.

All about the apartment: Ground Floor - Front door leading into entrance hall with small cloakroom. Open plan living area is attractively furnished with dining table for four, wood stove, and comfortable seating area. The area is floored throughout with handmade terracotta tiles and rugs. The kitchen area is well equipped with oven, dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge and ice box, electric juice extractor, toaster and coffee grinder. First Floor- One twin bedroom and one double bedroom, both with fitted carpets and wardrobes. The bathroom has a bath, two wash-basins and a W.C. A separate shower is planned for the season of 2012. There is a large feature mirror set against the restored mill wall he Gardens- are terraced and planted with lavender, rosemary, thyme and olive trees. The pool which is shared amongst the other apartments that make up the mill conversion, is 7m x 10m and has a charming patio area, shaded by fig and mulberry trees

A Provencal home from home

  • 5 out of 5
We had a wonderful stay at the Moulin and have taken home so lovely memories. The apartment is welcoming, cozy and very thoughtfully equipped and there was a great selection of books and guides available. The terrace was a delight and it was so nice to be able to sit out overlooking the beautiful gardens and listening to the river and the cigales. The kids loved the swimming pool which was perfect for our 6 year old who was keen to learn to swim and for our 5 year old who is not so keen and had plenty of room to paddle. We loved the village (literally a minute walk away) also and found the locals to be charming and very helpful. The boulangerie up the four steps on the left on the way into the village had the most amazing bread and the pizzas at les trois marches were lovely. All in all a fantastic holiday and we can't wait to return.

Lovely apartment well situated in charming village

  • 5 out of 5
Our family of 4 from NZ spent a lovely week here. The apartment was in a great location for wandering up to the village - we all thought the baguettes from the nearest boulangerie were the best in France. Good cafes and restaurants nearby offered lots of choice. The apartment was very comfortable and clean, just as the photos portray. We spent many hours relaxing and cooling down in the pool - what a view! Cotignac was a great place to explore the area, Gorges du Verdon well worth the drive, Aups, Aix en Provence, Marseille. Would recommend this apartment for a relaxing spot in Provence. Vivien was very helpful and prompt with enquiries, the booking process very simple. We would love to come back, thanks!

Our second visit to Le Moulin

  • 5 out of 5
This was our second visit to Le Moulin and it lived up to all our memories and expectations. It is a beautiful property, clean and well maintained and in a perfect location, set in lovely gardens only two minutes from the centre of the village. The pool is small but delightful. Cotignac is idyllic, whether you want to stroll around the little streets soaking up the atmosphere or sit on the Cours watching the world go by. Although it is only a small village, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to enjoy, street markets and events at the open air theatre. Within a short drive there is plenty to do and see and we visited Aix, the seaside at Sanary sur Mer near Toulon and the Lac de Sainte Croix this year which were all very enjoyable days out. The owner of this property is very helpful and friendly and we felt very welcome. We definitely hope to be back next year!

In a charming village, but quiet with lovely pool

  • 5 out of 5
We are a family of four from Wales who stayed at the apartment for a week in July. The location was brilliant - three minutes walk from the centre of Cotignac (lovely markets, shops, cafes. and in an interesting setting) - yet was quiet, with easy access to the lovely shared pool. Other holidaymakers around the pool were from the Netherlands, Australia, Canada, and France, but there were plenty of times we had it to ourselves too . We found the local shops fine for all our food shopping. Some days we would dine at home in the evening but go out after for crepes or icecream and a wine or beer. Cotignac is a lively village, especially on summer evenings and it was great being so close. But the music can go late, and the location of the moulin could not be bettered.
The apartment was well equipped, nicely furnished, spacious and light. We did not miss having TV . It was appreciated that the owner's representative met us when we arrived. She gave us good advice (eg: close the shutters before going out to keep the apartment cool) as well as a nice welcome and orientation.
We parked in one of the lots nearby, as access was too restricted right outside the gates, but this was no problem at all. In summary, Cotignac is a good base to explore the Var region, but also a nice place to spend car-free days too.

Lovely property, perfect setting

  • 5 out of 5
We have stayed in many holiday apartments over the years but Le Moulin was definitely our favourite. The apartment is charming, comfortable and very well equipped. Everything was clean and well maintained and we were made very welcome. Because of the old mill walls the apartment stays cool even in temperatures of over 30 degrees. The setting is perfect – beautiful private gardens and waterfall, lovely pool and at the same time only two minutes’ walk from the centre of the village. Cotignac itself is a gem – the main street is beautiful, shaded by huge plane trees and with several fountains. Although it is small there are several restaurants, cafés and bars as well as 3 bakeries and a great little supermarket. In addition there are different markets almost throughout the week, open air cinema, and dancing in the street on Fridays! Although it obviously caters for the tourists, the village still has a life of its own. There is plenty to do and see in the area. We visited Aix en Provence twice and went to a concert at the music festival there, and spent a day in Vence visiting the Fondation Maeght art gallery and the Matisse chapel. We also had some lovely walks around Cotignac, but we found it hard to drag ourselves away from our terrace and the pool at Le Moulin! We will definitely be back.

Far exceeded our expectations

  • 5 out of 5
"Myself, husband and seven year old son enjoyed one fantastic week in
Cotignac and would have loved to have stayed for another.
The apartment is situated down a very quiet lane less than three minutes
walk from the centre of the tree lined, busy, bustling little French village
with plenty of bars, restaurants, boulangeries, patesseries, butchers,
delicatessans and lovely boutiques, jewelery shops and even an art gallery.
The apartment is very comfortable and spacious and has everything you need
to make your stay a home from home. It has a lovely terrace overlooking the
river where we ate breakfast, lunch and evening meals when not dining out at
the really good local restaurants in the village.
The beautiful infinity pool is situated down at the bottom of the very quiet
garden and is great for strong swimmers as well as those less able as there
is a very deep side where you can dive in and a more shallow side which is
safe for younger children.
Cotignac is a great place to visit with its weekly markets and Summer
festival in August. You can walk into the village safely day or night and
everyone without exception is friendly.
I would highly recommend a visit to the Olive Mill apartment and really hope
to be back myself soon."

There is golf at nearby at Barbaroux, close to Brignoles, and water sports at the Gorges de Verdon 45 minutes drive away. The Abbaye de Thoronet is close by and makes a wonderful cool afternoon excursion. Excellent vineyards surround Cotignac and the best honey in France is made from local lavender and thyme.
