A wonderful and magical week in Morfa Nefyn! The bungalow itself is immaculate, spacious and maintained to a high standard. It is light and airy during the day yet feels cosy in the candle-lit evenings, a home from home. The peace and quiet is what really strikes you, you can't hear a thing except for the roll of the ocean and the occassional seagul. The privacy and sense of 'being away from it all' makes it all the more surprising that there is so much to do and experience, all within short, picturesque walking and driving distances.
We woke up leisurely, had a coffee and breakfast outside in the sun (at the end of September!) and then went exploring each day. Locally there is the cliffs walk which isn't very taxing with beautiful scenary and hidden little pathways. The walk across the beach to the Ty Coch is a must, how many pubs can you sit by an open fire having a pint looking out at the sea? It's also worth walking past the pub to lifeboat bay and further round, where you can sometimes spot sea lions.
Another day we drove 10 mins up the road to Llanbedrog and visited Oriel Plas art gallery which is set in a superb, grade II listed Victorian Gothic mansion, it overlooks the bay and the Iron Man walk along the cliffs. Whilst we were there we booked an hours horse riding trek at a place just a few hundred meters along the road for the next day. It was very relaxed, not too pricey at £20 each and the view coming up over the top of the hill on horseback and feeling like the coast had just appeared was breathtaking. Later we headed slightly further afield to the charmingly surreal model village of Portmerion where the 60's T.V series 'The Prisoner' was filmed. It felt like a unique experience and the forest walk to the sandbanks was magical. Further along the coast from Portmerion is Harlech, after the tiny toll bridge there is a narrow, winding forest road that leads you to one of the most picturesque little villages you will ever see, with tea shops, an old fashioned sweet shop and handmade pottery, all overlooked by Harlech castle.
There are many more places to explore, too many to list here, we walked along the epic 'Hells Mouth' beach on our only bad weather day and it was all the better for it as both ends of the beach disappeared into the fog like it was the edge of the world. At Abersoch we even saw a dolphin jumping in the bay! Award winning fish and chips from Pwllheli, and good food at The Ship inn what more can you ask for?!
