Beautiful Cottage on the front door of the Lakes
Smithy House is a beautiful cottage with absolutely everything you need for a break away and more, the Kitchen is the most comprehensive and well stocked we have every stayed in including plenty of logs for the Log Burner, the rooms are spacious and for 6 adults, we were never in each others way, we stayed in the Master Bedroom downstairs that had the most beautiful Roll Too Bath as. Special feature, the others stayed upstairs and all slept very well - the quality of the home is first class, it’s only a short walk from a very welcoming village Pub, the Kings Arms where we spent New Year’s Eve, the owners were in and provided a free buffet to celebrate the New Year, Pooley Bridge on Ullswater was only a 10 minute driver or probably an hours walk away, Windermere or an hour away and Keswick - 30 minutes, lots of routes in the local area for dog walking and Penrith just 5 minutes away for local shops/Supermarket, there is a village shop but opening times are not consistent, the owner Colin was very easy to communicate with and overall a lovely space that we would happily use again.

Marvellous midweek break
Just spent a fabulous few days at Smithy House. Lovely property, really well equipped with everything we needed. I was visiting with my teenage daughter, sister and 92 year old Mother. The downstairs bedroom suite was perfect for her. Stainton is a great basr from which to explore the beautiful area. Colin was wonderful, fantastic communication and easy to contact if we had a query.

I am a retired teacher, teaching for 38 years in Special Education. I retired 12 years ago and followed my dreams of purchasing a property in the beautiful Lake District.
My wife also was in the teaching profession and was head for most of her career. In her final 6 years she was chief executive of 3 schools all on the same site, a comprehensive, primary and special school. She was honoured in the Queens birthday honours in 2001 and was made a Dame.
My hobbies are mainly sport now, playing golf, skiing, cycling a couple of times a week and I enjoy walking in the fells.
