Guestbook comments from the owner

"The hosts at 61A Peters Street have created a lovely oasis of calm and comfort in bustling Islington. They've thought of everything for the comfort of their guests, and they've furnished the squeaky-clean flat in lovely, simple taste. I can't wait to return to my new "home" in London!"

Good location. Would recommend

  • 4 out of 5
Owners helpful. Flat was as described. Comfortable, with everything you need for a short stay. Would recommend to friends. Close to tube station, shops & restaurants. Great base for visiting all London has to offer. Especially liked the pub across the road for meals out.

Fabulous stay

  • 5 out of 5
This flat is in a great location- close to everything but in a quiet street. The flat was equipped with all the facilities I needed during my stay & as the weather was great, I could also use the courtyard. The owners were prompt and efficient in all my dealings with them. I would stay here again.

Ideal home from home

  • 5 out of 5
Good to get home after almost 2 months away and of all the places that I stayed in, this one was my favorite. Clearly a lot of thought has been put into making this well planned flat cozy.
It's very well equipped, spotlessly clean and rally confortable. Ideally located, Islington is really buzzy and has excellent public transport.
Received a warm welcome from the owners, nothing was too much trouble for them.
Will definitely stay there again when in London.

Nice flat but beware of the inventory list

  • 3 out of 5
Karen and team promptly answered enquiries and allowed me to visit the flat which I wanted to rent for my parents visiting from overseas. The flat itself is clean, useable, well appointed albeit slightly noisy from standard foot traffic and the pub across the road. The stairs leading down make it slightly less suitable for the elderly. We believe disclaimers from the beginning should be clearer. All travellers pls be wary to take note of everything out of order/worn. If there is anything that is not in absolutely perfect condition, that you don't point out immediately when you arrive (even at 7am on a Sunday which is when we first stepped in), there is a good chance you will be charged from your deposit. We are landlords ourselves and have also been renters. We understand some items should be claimed if damaged but for longer stays (ours was approx 2.5 weeks, £2k stay) we believe there should be some discretion, especially if you are building repeat business. After initially wanting to charge for a £7 face towel (that had discoloured slightly and to be honest prob our fault) Karen ended up charging for a worn floor strip that was left dangerously loose on the ground from previous usage. We spotted it after 3 of us tripped over it on arrival and decided to selotape it down to avoid someone injuring themselves. We thought calling Karen at 7am on Sunday was not respectful of their privacy. Thankfully they did not end up charging for the face towel but they did partially charge us for the old strip. We are honestly at a loss how this fault could have gone unnoticed given how meticulous they had been and how obviously broken it was and feel we are being charged for wear and tear. I am disappointed more than angry at their behaviour as we have visitors very regularly and like the proximity to our place in London. I am sorry to say we we will be looking elsewhere in the future and will not be recomending the flat.

Owner's Response: We are both concerned & disturbed by your comments which we feel are unjustified.
Your review seems to have been influenced by the deposit deduction. Indeed, we received an email from your sister upon departure as follows: “ we wanted to say thanks for letting us stay at the apartment at St peters st. It was a real pleasure.”
As stated, you visited the flat prior to booking to assess its suitability for your parents and sister.
The building was originally a house & has been converted in to 4 flats. Whilst all flats have been soundproofed, it is only to be expected to hear some light foot traffic.
After almost 6 years this is the 1st time that anyone has mentioned noise from the acclaimed Duke of Cambridge -an organic gastro pub on the corner of St Peter’s St & Danbury St.
Although your family did not arrive until early on Sunday morning we met you at the flat on Friday evening to hand over keys & run through everything -you had ample time to advise us of any discrepancies with the inventory.
Neither the outgoing guests (also a couple in their 60’s who were staying with us for the 2nd time) nor the cleaner noticed the ‘loose’ door bar which separates the tiled kitchen & the wood living room floors. Is it possible that one of your party caused this to become loose by stepping on rather than over it?
You state that the door bar was worn & that you have been charged for wear and tear yet your father wrote to me ..” It is still seemed to be in good condition… May I suggest that a high strength multi-purpose polyurethane glue will do the job well.”
At no time during or after your parents stay were we advised of this problem. Had they done so, & had not stuck it down with parcel tape, we would have attended to it without delay & with no need for a deduction. It was our cleaner who drew to our attention the tape over this bar. When we tried to remove it the finish from the bar stuck to the tape. It no longer became a case of securing the bar but replacing it.
We corresponded with your father over this who acknowledged that he should have informed us straight away. We agreed that we would cover the labour charges & would deduct the cost of the replacement door bar from the deposit.
We dislike making deductions & certainly do not look for reasons to do so-your parents also ruined a hand towel (now pink/grey not white) yet we made no deduction for this.
We are sorry that you feel disappointed but believe that the deduction was fully justified.

Excellent fit for our needs - home away from home.

  • 5 out of 5
Our 7 week stay was great. Flat met on-line descriptions/photos/facilities list, was clean, tidy and well maintained - very comfortable to be in. Everything worked and all appliances had instruction booklets available. Good heating system.

Only very occasional noise from other flats. Small collection of books - novels and guides for parts of UK - along with some tourist pamphlets etc. Very helpful.

Owners very good in communicating throughout booking process and stay, promptly addressing any issue that arose - great service. Thoroughly recommend as place to stay.

Location (in Islington) was excellent - two small licensed shops 50 metres down road, pub across road and 2 more within 150 metres, close to shopping centre (Islington Green/Angel), transport and local entertainment.

London's theatres/attractions easily accessible from Angel tube and buses from Islington Green. We used Lastminute.com to get lots of our tickets to shows - this worked well.

Loved the half price cocktails at The Winchester at top end of road on Thursday nights. Pub across road has well recognised organic restaurant - we found food good. Regents Canal at bottom end of road - walks and pubs.

Each pub has own character and you just need to find ones that fit with you.

A gem, ideally located in central London!

  • 5 out of 5
This wonderful St Peter's Street apartment, in the trendy suburb of Islington is an ideal location for a trip to central London. We stayed for 5 nights and the accommodation was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and more than spacious enough for us (3 ladies). From the moment we made contact with Karen we knew we had made a great decision. She stayed in constant contact with us, always responding to queries timeously, she recommended a great shuttle service that collected us at Heathrow and at a cost of 37GBP we thought this was great value for money. On arrival in Islington, Karen met us at the apartment and gave us invaluable information about the surrounding area, including great restaurant recommendations (Duke of Cambridge - literally across the road), bus and train information, local shopping etc. We had a wonderful stay, and due to the great location of this apartment we were able to get around with ease!! Our personal highlight was the New Years eve fireworks display at the London Eye - it is to be recommended!! Despite the throngs of people being based in Islington, getting to and from the event was a pleasure! If returning to London with my family or friends I would definitely book this apartment again.
