Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Loch Ness - Woodside

Detached woodland cottage near Loch Ness with mountain views and private garden

Lovely traditional detached cottage, totally refurbished, new kitchen and bathroom and central heating. Log fire with free log supply. Warm, cosy and a high standard thorughout, yet at a budget price; prices not increased since 2011. Woodside is in a quiet woodland setting, with frequent deer sightings, stream running through the garden, just above Loch Ness, making Woodside a wonderfully cosy cottage from which to witness highland wildlife. Well fenced garden for dogs to play safely. Lots to see and do in this unspoiled, sparsely populated area of Stratherrick just 3 minutes drive up the hills above Loch Ness. There are unlimited local forest and hill walks, many Lochs and rivers, rare birds and animals, such as peregrine falcons, red kite, ospreys, red squirrel. The cottage is environmentally friendly, with green electricity, a newly fitted bathroom, large well equipped kitchen, all finished to a high standard. Like other regular visitors to Woodside you too will be saying 'beautiful and relaxing, a home from home.' Large supply of logs included free. All central heating and electricity included in price (no meters).

This traditional foresters cottage makes you feel relaxed from the moment you arrive thanks to the beautiful and quiet woodland setting. With Loch Ness nearby and hills, mountain and lochs in all directions, you can sit and watch the ever-changing scenery, sunsets and wildlife. There are two comfortable, well-equipped bedrooms (one twin bedded and one double) also with lovely woodland and mountain views, ensure you will sleep well in the peace and quiet of the private countryside location. The large brand new well-appointed kitchen and large farmhouse dining table allow you to enjoy preparing the rich variety of local produce available at local Farmers Markets and from local producers. Inverness city is only 16 miles away (25 minute drive), At Woodside you have ample car parking space including a car port and long private gravel driveway at the cottage for any number of vehicles.

The wildlife will also amaze you with dozens of birds visiting the garden, regular sightings of red and sika deer, pine martens, pheasants, osprey, woodpeckers, red squirrels, bats and at night you are guaranteed to hear the occasional owl. There are excellent views of the Monadhliath mountains from the front windows. With SKY satellite TV, home entertainment, board games, CDs and DVDs you are ensured of a fun time inside or out. Free fishing is allowed from many local lochs and rivers. Visitors have caught brown trout & salmon. Fort Augustus is 25 minutes away with its stunning locks and good range of restaurants. The nearby village of Foyers (4 miles away) has a post office, general store and cafe for your everyday needs. Woodside is available all year round and quickly books up, with many families returning each year to Woodside, with holiday-makers saying 'This is such a quaint, warm and comfortable cottage. A perfect place to relax and spot the rich wildlife of the Highlands. Every room has either a woodland or mountain view. We will recommend this to our friends and relatives and we will return !'

DIDN'T WANT TO GO HOME!

DIDN'T WANT TO GO HOME!
  • 5 out of 5
Having stayed here in February for a week I didnt want to leave this beautiful cottage in this stunning location. The walks around the area were lovely and the dog especially enjoyed his morning walk at the the loch across the road, but it is not too far from Inverness to be accessible. Having visited this area and the Highlands many times I found this cottage the most relaxing and comfortable with its cosy wood burning stove and countryside setting. We loved the beautiful kitchen and couldnt wait to go back, so much so that weve just booked to spend Christmas week here. Turan and Iain couldnt be more helpful, we cant wait for Christmas! Thank you, Louise

This cottage really is a home away. The facilities were fabulous and the scenery stunning. We waited a long time to visit Scotland and absolutely loved it. Loch Ness is so beautiful.
Would recommend as a perfect retreat.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much, Janette, for taking the trouble to write a review - and such praise ! We're delighted your first visit to Scotland was made all the more special by staying at cosy Woodside. Yes, the mountain views are lovely. We hope you made good use of the log fire between all your day trips. Woodside is a perfect base for seeing the Highlands and Loch Ness as you discovered. We hope to welcome you back one day.

Cosy sanctuary

  • 5 out of 5
It only just occurred to me that I could write a review for this holiday cottage. It's telling that we're still thinking about this place six months later, and we only spent four days there. It was the perfect, cosy sanctuary in the countryside, far removed from our work in the city. With superb walks to do within a couple of miles at places like the magical Foyers and in Inverfarigaig forest you don't need to travel far to enjoy the scenery. But we could quite happily have stayed in the cottage 24/7 in front of the log burner, reading and sipping whisky or gazing out the windows watching the sky roll past, or even peeking at the birds landing on the bird table in the garden. We had a lovely time and hope to book again soon for next year!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review Ilan. We're delighted you had such a memorable holiday. Yes, as you discovered, Woodside, with its central heating and log fire is just as ideal for a cosy winter break, as it is for the rest of the year. Hoping to welcome you back in 2015.
Many thanks - Iain and Turan

This place is nicer than my own house!

  • 5 out of 5
We came for a romantic weekend on Valentine's Day and fell in love with the cottage ! Woodside has better facilities than my own home - I especially loved the sage green kitchen which had absolutely everything we needed. And it was wonderfully warm - in fact when we had the log burning stove on, we had to turn down the central heating - it was too warm. It is peaceful and private and spotlessly clean, better than a home from home. We recommend going to the Dores Inn for dinner, down the road back towards Inverness in the village of Dores, excellent food and service, and not that pricey. The short drive down the hill to Loch Ness is magical but, much to daughter's disappointment, we didn't see the monster ! It's also well worth going to Chanonry Point on the Black Isle - 35 minute drive - to see the wild dolphins. Incredible sights - they were leaping out of the water. All in all a lovely holiday we will never forget.

Owner's Response: Yes Lulu - join the club of the people who have fallen in love with Woodside ! Since it was refurbished people just seem to be wowed by it. We also really like the sage green kitchen and having a log fire makes all the difference to a country holiday experience. We're really pleased you felt so at home and take away such happy memories.

Beautiful peaceful cottage

  • 5 out of 5
We cannot recommend this lovely cottage enough. Beautifully laid out with everything you need for a comfy stay. The wood burning stove makes it even more comfy. Very quiet and peaceful and ideally situated for exploring the surrounding areas.
We were only there 4 nights but will book again. 4 adults and 2 greyhounds and we all loved it.

Woodside Cottage – The best holiday in years :)

  • 5 out of 5
Feb 24th – 3rd March 2013: We found it hard finding the cottage once in Errogie but loved the route from the airport to it; we were welcomed with a beautiful rainbow. The photos don’t do justice to the Cottage but the cottage did justice to our holiday. Thanks Iain and Turan for such a great place to stay. During breakfast we overlooked the birdfeeder watching the many different species feeding off the food we put out. We were out all-day and welcomed the homely, warm atmosphere of the cottage in the evenings. The beautiful Loch Mohr is right on your doorstep, we saw it at its best when the sun was going down on our first evening and white with heavy frost our first morning – we fell in love with the place. Apart from one day when it was overcast we had sun and blue skies all week. We visited Foyer Falls; Loch Tarff was superb, frozen but bathed in sun. Loch Ness was like a mill pond. We visited the Cairngorm Mountain, The Highland Wildlife Park, Abernethy, Loch Garten, but our love was visiting The Findhorn Valley, known as raptor Valley where in the past we saw a golden eagle although not this time, we walked up the ridges where White Mountain Hare were seen and photographed. We visited the Cairngorm Reindeer on the mountain, which was fab. We also went to Portree on the Isle of Sky, twuz a long drive but well worth it.

Owner's Response: Thanks Cheryl and Di for such a great review. We are really pleased you had a great holiday, that you loved Woodside and found all the refurbishments comfortable and cosy. Yes, we must put more photos on the website of the new kitchen and all the other improvements. Even for a winter break it is a lovely warm base for touring all the HIghlands has to offer. There is loads to see all year round and we hope to welcome you back sometime. You'll get a returning visitor's discount, and we have many returning visitors every year - we must be doing somethig right ! with thanks and best wishes - Iain and Turan

Woodside is in the village of Errogie in the unspoilt, sparsely populated South Loch Ness area with many woodland, mountain and loch side walks starting from the front door. Within a few minutes of Woodside there are many other lochs, mountains and forests to explore. The wildlife will also amaze you with much to be spotted in the woodland from the windows or decking at Woodside inclduing dozens of bird species, regular sightings of red and sika deer, pine martens, pheasants, osprey, woodpeckers, red squirrels, bats and at night you are guaranteed to hear the occasional owl. Golden eagles have also been seen and the nearby Loch Ruthven is an impressive bird reserve. Dolphin watching is guaranteed from Chanonry Point on the Black Isle, a 40 minute drive away. Woodside is an ideal base for touring everything the Highlands have to offer.

Red squirrels and pine martens populate the nearby Farigaig forest which stretches along south Loch Ness, and covers several thousand acres.
