A very nice Lodge in a perfect place

  • 4 of 5

We were enjoying the first 4 days of our holiday this year in this Lodge.

It began with a very nice and professional welcome by Jean´s granddaughter Naomi.

We are a family of 4, our 2 "kids" on 16 and 19 years enjoyed having their own room ;). We used the Lodge as a base for visiting York and Castle Howard and other interesting, memorable things in the surrounding area. A very good location for this.

At The Steer Inn we received the best "steak pie" throughout our visit in Great Britain (we went south after 4 days, ending in London after approximately 2 weeks).

It was a perfect beginning of the vacation, a base where we could relax in the evenings after some very inspiring days, in a part of Britain which is filled up with historic places.

We checked out to Jean, who told us about Festiniog in Wales as a beautiful place we should pass later that holiday.

We will definitely return to this lodge another year in order to see all the things we didn't make it to this time. It was a nice "home" for us in 4 days, a very cosy Lodge in a nice neighborhood.

Our Autumn Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have enjoyed this well designed, clean, large and welcoming lodge for two consecutive years -for Autumn half term week and both times have been super. It is on a smallish, quiet, safe, residential site but has a good hotel and restaurant at the entrance. The lovely village shops of Pocklington are a few minutes drive and a petrol station -so all needs are catered for. We use the frequent Park and Drive for York days and also enjoyed the nearby Air Museum and a train trip to Whitby. It doesn't matter if the weather is unkind because this lovely, warm, spacious lodge has all facilities from washer, fridge freezer to board games and lots of kitchen utensils and dishes and comfy seating to watch TV . If sunny there is a barbecue and garden furniture too! We had 3 generations in our group and from 5 yrs. to 55 yrs plus we all had a really great time .Well, everyone wanted to repeat last year and would return! The flooring is practical -no worries about carpet spills and two bathrooms are a bonus-super hot shower. The owner keeps a helpful collection of local information leaflets on activities to enjoy and places to visit, which is fun to browse. There is also a detailed file about the controls for heating, recycling etc and emergency contact numbers. We can even say it is accessible for a less able bodied person, as our elderly mother, who uses a walking frame managed to enter and leave using the hand rail, when she popped in for a cuppa. It is a unoverlooked and has ample parking for two large family vehicles. Hope we don't make it sound too good or it will be booked when we want it!! Finally we find Mrs P a really helpful and approachable lady -she is there to let you in and she will happily tell you anything at all that may help you settle and enjoy a beautiful place.

Nice peaceful location - a little TLC needed

  • 2 of 5

Lodge is situated in a lovely peaceful location on a very secure site.

The lodge itself is very spacious although some decluttering wouldn't go amiss with too many nik naks collecting dust and some of the furniture would benefit from an update.

Whilst all the kitchen utensils you need are there, again some updating needed with more modern equipment.

New curtains and bedding along with the above changes would make this lodge a lovely place to stay although the current condition of the lodge seems to be reflected in the price as it is very good value for money. The Steer in pub 2 minutes walk away is very good value and serves very large portion meals of good quality.

A fabulous week in York

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a week in York with our 22 yr old daughter and her partner and two grandsons(not her's) aged 4 and 7.We arrived to be made welcome by Jean who showed us around and told us about the security gate and the re-cyling and chatted. The place was spotless and beds made and piles of soft towels. There was constant hot water and the heating made the cabin snug even in late October. We soon tried the great Park and Ride way into York and spent the week enjoying the museums some of which are free-amazing!!

The Inn at the gate was good for evening meals and the local shops (just minutes away in the car) were easy to find. The spacious cabin allowed us all privacy and yet we could fit onto the settee for a family film or DVD!!

It was easy to tidy up and leave- as the car was outside the door!!

We hope to repeat.
