Hideaway mountain house

  • 5 of 5

This house is a real gem, tucked away in a little mountain village with views to die for! Unbeatable for peace and quiet, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including adequate local shops for daily provisions, a well-equipped kitchen, comfy beds, a balcony with stunning mountain views, and a garden with BBQ. The climb up the path from the village pub to the house is certainly invigorating, but there's a hammock to rest in when you've made it!

The owner makes great suggestions for local places of interest or slightly longer trips, and we made the most of exploring the area.

We'd certainly recommend the house to anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle and just slow down for a while. Lovely.

cosy, welcoming house

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful quiet location and lovely house with a well equipped kitchen and outdoor sitting and eating area and comfortable beds! If you are looking for an away-from-it-all place to stay this is it - we are in the middle of moving house and I didn't think about solicitors, mortgages or removals at all - it was that serene and relaxing! Will definitely return.

Beautiful peaceful and extrabulous

  • 5 of 5

Lovely clean cosy homely cottage - lots of pine and cushions. Astounding views from the large verandah. The Rhodope mtns are the most picturesque in the country apparently which is cool. The photos are all accurate so if it looks good to you, book it. Everything is well organised - Eva the owner and Angel her local rep are extremely helpful so nothing to worry about. Phone signal is fine for calls and texts but a bit weak for uploading photos to Facebook. This is a place to relax and charge your batteries so bring books, ipod, wine and some boots or trainers for walking in the hills. We spent hours sitting on the verandah reading, chatting and staring at the mountains. all v lovely. If it gets chilly there is a fab wood burning stove which heats the whole place very effectively. Stock up the larder on your way to the cottage because there's nothing to buy in the village other than beer and Bulgarian Chardonnay. I would definitely recommend this cottage for a peaceful getaway - we stayed 10 days and were still sorry to leave.

Hidden Bulgarian treasure!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderfully relaxing time staying in this lovely, hidden, hillside home last summer. We had both lived in Bulgaria for many years but this was our first trip to Kosovo and we were both delighted with the discovery. The house is very comfortable - it seems the owner has thought of everything, right down to providing a Scrabble set, and so we really did feel at home, although we could only dream of having a home with such wonderful views!

This is luxury in its real sense: a comfortable house, with good, solid beds; a fully-equipped kitchen; a cosy living room; and total peace and quiet. Everything was clean and we found the owner very helpful in response to our requests. The house is in a great place for exploring the nearby mountains and Plovdiv, which is a lovely town, but the highlight of our holiday for us was just sitting out on the fabulous terrace where we spent many happy, uninterrupted hours reading and drinking Bulgarian wine. This is absolutely ideal for getting away for a romantic break and having the chance to stay and see something of real life in a Bulgarian village - as it really is (we have been to other places in Bulgaria which feel as if they were built for the tourists).

Peaceful retreat with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I visited the house in Kosovo in April last year. The village is set in the heart of the Rhodope mountains and provides a good base for walks and for exploring the surrounding areas. The house is perched on a hill in the most peaceful location you can imagine. The views from the big balcony are breathtaking - one can sit and admire the vista towards the mountain tops and the glen for hours! The house is a traditional Rhodope house full of charm and character while at the same time equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. We had a fantastic time eating out on the balcony and enjoying the peace and quiet and we would definitely consider going back!

A place to be!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our holiday at this place. The house met all expectations! A lot of comfort (warm water, cosy living room and a good bed) and a beautiful view from the balcony. A warm welcome with a bottle of wine on the table.

The house is situated at a wonderful place at the edge of the village Kosovo with great mountain views. Sitting on the balcony with a good glass of wine, by daylight the flying-by Barn Swallows, Crag Martins and Red-rumped Swallows and at night the call of Tawny Owl and Eagle Owl. What does a birder wants more?

As nature lovers this was a dream holiday in a beautiful country. The Bulgarians are very hospital, friendly and helpful. Many reasons to go back!

The house is literally perched on the edge of the mountain at the top end of a small mountain village. The village, Kosovo (means Blackbird and not to be confused with the country!), is 50 kilometres south of Plovdiv, off the main road towards the well known ski resort, Pamporovo, a further 50 km south. The nearest small town (6 km via the mountain road or an hour and a half walk) is Narechenski Bani, famous for it's mineral water springs. Primarily of interest to walkers, bird watchers and those seeking to really get away from it all, the area also offers a wealth of historical and archaeological sites. Bachkevo Monastery is within easy reach as is the Kormishosh Reserve (bear, deer, wild boar) where horse riding is available.

Guests are supported by English-speaking Bulgarians who can collect you from the airport (either Plovdiv or Sofia) and also organise trips, guided walks and a range of activities.

The property is unlikely to suit those seeking satelite TV but there are lots of books and games available!
