Orton Hall is a magnificent 17th Century Jacobean mansion situated in the delightful village of Orton, near Penrith in Cumbria. Charles Stuart self catering first floor apartment is located within a wing of Orton Hall and has all the luxury, comfort and character you would expect from a unique self catering property in Cumbria. The lovely Cumbrian village of Orton has a shop, pub with restaurant and a tearoom. The undulating countryside is dotted with picturesque villages with excellent pubs, hotels and restaurants serving good food and drink. There are numerous interesting places to visit as well as activities for the energetic. The walking and cycling in the area is superb. Treat yourself to a peaceful self catering holiday in Cumbria at the stylish Charles Stuart at Orton Hall. This is an elegant, spacious first floor apartment, which has access to the extensive grounds of Orton Hall as well as a private patio and garden. Free WIFI . Changeover days are Friday and Monday. Short breaks available starting Monday 3/4 nights or Friday 3 nights, subject to availability.

This country house self catering accommodation is in a peaceful location, but within easy reach of the M6 motorway and twenty minutes away from a mainline railway station Oxenholme Lake district. It is surrounded by unspoilt English countryside, ideal for walking, cycling and exploration by car. It is a short drive from the main Lake District fells and Yorkshire Dales - the best of both worlds - and the Cumbrian towns of Appleby and Kendal. Charles Stuart combines the benefit of being part of a beautiful old hall with the privacy of a separate wing with its own entrance. It has a large, comfortable lounge with dining facilities, TV, video, DVD, stereo and plenty of books. Some DVDs, videotapes and CDs are provided for you to use during your stay, but feel free to bring your own.

From the spacious hallway, you have access to well-equipped kitchen with electric induction hob and double oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and all the pots and pans you could need.

There is one spacious master bedroom with a king size bed, a twin bedroom and a fold up bed. You have a bathroom with WC, washbasin, bidet and shower and a shower room with WC and wash basin. There are lovely views from all the windows including a fabulous arched window in the hallway.A well appointed shower room with WC and washbasin leads off the spacious hallway.

Staying at orton hall gives you full access to these extensive grounds with lawns, mature trees, flowerbeds, woods and a pond and sitting areas. You also have use of the large, communal, oak panelled lounge in the hall with log fire, piano and snooker table. The hall dates back to 1662 and has the atmosphere of an elegant, country mansion. It has been carefully refurbished and modernised to give modern comfortable facilities, whilst retaining its historical charm. A laundry room with automatic washer and tumble drier are available.

Free WIFI in the apartment.

Changeover day for week bookings is Friday. Weekend short breaks available for 3 nights from Friday and midweek 3 to 4 nights between Monday and Friday (2 night breaks sometimes possible subject to availability)

very nice location, very peaceful although we were heading to the lake district everyday we did think about just stopping there and relaxing about the excellant facilities.we would rtn again no problem as everything was just perfect only bad point was we did not have enough time to enjoy them as we only stayed 3 nights maybe next time we will stay longer nice walk to the pub in the evenings as well and orton was very nice too!!! only grip i have is that there was not enough freeview channels on the telly but as my wife said you dont go on holiday to watch tv but on the plus side there was plenty of books on the shelf to read and browse thru.

glorious setting, the house the grounds and the village. the apartment is extremely well presented and large which was a pleasant surprise. very comfortable has everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. views galore. nice and quiet. on the first morning of our stay we drew back the curtains to discover it was snowing it was like a picture postcard!
if you like chocolate you are in luck as the village has a chocolate factory. friendly pub just down the road and a craft centre. surrounding countryside of course stunning and accessible, a short drive will deliver fantastic scenery.

just wonderful exactly what the doctor would order...

would absolutely visit again.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay. The grounds do look stunning in snowy conditions, but it is worth noting that it does not always snow in Orton and the summer flowers and autumn colours are equally as beautiful.

A fabulous apartment

My wife and I stayed there for a week with our two friends from the USA. Pat Brass, the lady who looks after the apartment and prepares it for incoming guests, had done a brilliant job. Every room was immaculately clean and fresh and the apartment had everything we needed in relation to cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, towels, t'towels, bedding, extra bedding etc.........
There's a pay -as -you- use washing machine and tumble dryer in the main hall of the Manor House (for which you get the key - so you can use the communal lounge area which also has a ½ size snooker table and grand piano). Orton's village shop/post office is well stocked, the Chocolate Factory is well worth a visit and its Cafe serves some wonderful food. The George Hotel is a friendly place which also has a great menu.
We all loved our stay at Charles Stuart it was quite simply - fabulous!

We stayed at the Charles Stuart just behind the Jacobean Mansion. Out first impression was wow from the moment we walked in! Views were nice and the apartment was spotlessly cleaned. Rooms were big and ample cupboard space, lounge was big. Kitchen was a good size with pots pans utensils everything! Thoroughly enjoyed this holiday would be going again soon!!

Charles Stuart at Orton Hall

This apartment was quite a find! I was looking for a haven in Cumbria with easy access to the Lakes on the west and Northumbria to the east and found it here.The apartment is sent in the peaceful grounds of Orton Hall with its own lovely garden but freedom to enjoy the full grounds and communal stately lounge of the hall itself. In the lounge there is a piano and a snooker table for guests to enjoy. The Hall is situated in very easy access to the M6 but the pretty village of Orton still feels off the beaten track.
The apartment is much bigger than I had expected, with its own entrance leading up the staircase with pretty arched window to the central hallway with rooms off. First are the two bedrooms which are very well appointed with stylish decor fitting the age of the property but with a chic modern feel. The kitchen is well equipped and the apartment has two bathrooms.
The living room is spacious and again very comfortable and simply stylish with peaceful views of the gardens and beyond. I would highly recommend this accommodation.

Excellent choice for the area

Wow, well this place is a find. Just 2 miles off J38 of the M6 and you are away from everything. The Charles Stuart apartment is behind the main house which you can see in the picture, but has it's own entrance and is attached to the house at the back. It has it's own parking too. There are a couple of flights of stairs which lead to to a main hall which is lovely and warm and light. Even has a piano. Both bedrooms are spacious, one with two single beds and one with a double bed which is huge. The kitchen has everything you need. The lounge/dining room is lovely, very modern and bright also. It also has two bathrooms (one with a shower only). Only a couple of things could have improved it for us. The addition of a shaver point and a little bit more light in the small bathroom. (There is another bathroom too). Also some draw space in the twin room. Plus for those traveling a long distance maybe that added wow with small pack say of milk, butter, bread etc would have been the icing on the cake but I guess you would have to pay extra to get that. The apartment is near the village of Olton which has a great chocolate factory shop/cafe which does lovely lunches. There is a pub in the village too which does basic pub food which is okay. Great base to get around the area.
