We're Brits living in England's beautiful Lake District, so unsurprisingly we like to vacation where the sun (nearly always) shines, and where we can indulge our interest in walking & wildlife whilst enjoying wonderful family vacations.
We bought our home in Fort Myers after several happy family holidays staying in a number of homes along Florida's gulf coast, all of which were looked after by our current property manager. We love the area, and in particular its less developed / less commercial character compared to many stretches of the gulf coast. Our particular interest is the wildlife, of all kinds, and we are great walkers. Recently we've begun to explore the wilder side of Florida by kayak & on foot, & after a little initial trepidation (about what might be lurking in the undergrowth / water!) we're coming to love this too. In our opinion Ft Myers the best place on the Gulf Coast for the wide variety of things to do, both very locally & on day trips.
We love the open plan living that our house embodies, the big open space that opens onto the outdoors, and the way the outdoor space becomes just another part of your living area. We never fail to eat outside whenever possible, and love to be outdoors in the evening, with the warm-weather sounds of the night all around - crickets, frogs, etc. We also love our own space and privacy - it's great not to have to worry about who's on the next table to you at dinner, or in the next room in a hotel. It's great to be close to the beach, but it's also really important to be close to lots of other things to do, so that the needs of all family members are satisfied - fishing, golf, boating, water sports, swimming, parks & playgrounds, nature, heritage & history, the movies, shopping, etc.
