Great Vacation Spot

  • 5 out of 5
We rented this house for three years and loved it. The cottage is adorable and has everything you could want. Denise is very helpful and even supplied a blow-up mattress for my grand-daughters. The lake is clean and has a gradual incline which makes it perfect for children. Although the road is a main thoroughfare it isn't heavily used and the package store across the street is hidden behind a stand of evergreens. The house was supplied with brochures and information on restaurants, attractions, and grocery and drug stores in the area. How anyone could be dissatisfied with this lovely home amazes me.

Honeymoon get away

  • 5 out of 5
I too had the pleasure staying at this beautiful cottage. My husband and I were celebrating our belated honeymoon and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect place to stay.
It was like paradise. I woke up most mornings around 6:30 and spent an hour or so, on the patio reading my bible, having my one on one time with the Lord. There were a few mornings my husband and I got up at 4:30 to go fishing. To see a sunrise on the lake is breathtaking. I felt as if I walked into one of Gods paintings, one of His masterpieces. How many people get to do that with the one they love? I thought there was nothing more beautiful than a sunrise on the lake but I was wrong. The sunsets, the bright colors and reflections on the water were truly AMAZING
The fishing and swimming was a lot of fun. I not only got to swim in the lake but I swam across the lake to the other side, then along the back side and then back to our dock. About a mile and a half in 58 min. Loving every minute in or on the water
The cottage may be on the main road and you may have traffic but I have to be honest with you.
I DIDN’T HEAR IT!!!!
You have two choices; you can harp on the traffic and let it ruin your vacation. OR you can get lost in the beauty of the cottage, the lake and the people on the lake. I guess that depends on what kind of person you are. A positive one or negative one. Do you see your glass half full or half empty?
As for my husband and I, we’re not only looking forward to coming back, but we would recommend this cottage to anyone.

I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting the owner in person but I did speak with her many times on the phone and through email. She made sure we had all the information we needed for our stay at the cottage like; the keys, Wi-Fi, not only a list of the grocery stores and restaurants but directions to them. Where the life vests were, the telephone number to the cottage as well as her number. In my opinion she went above and beyond the call of being a landlord to make sure our stay was perfect and all I can say is Thank You
Sincerely
The Honeymooners

Charming Lakefront Cottage

  • 5 out of 5
This is a wonderful location being close by to the Storrs CT UCONN Campus, the Publick House, and Sturbridge Village. I spent a couple nights here with friends and it was the most serene and inviting place to be. Whether you're swimming in the lake during Summer, or walking around it in the Fall, or fishing for fun, this is the place to be. Close by, but so far away!

Owner's Response: Hi Pamela
It was so nice to welcome you back to your second stay at our cottage. We do not usually get to meet our tenants but it was nice that we were able to meet you and your husband. We try hard to make everyone's vacation memorable and apparently your summer vacation was a good one because you returned in the fall. Please know that we look forward to seeing you in the future.

Great get away without the long drive!

  • 5 out of 5
I live in the Hartford area and I had the pleasure of renting this cottage. I loved every minute of this beautifully decorated retreat right on the water. I went for a few canoe trips and felt like I was in New Hampshire. I went for long walks around the lake. The outdoor fireplace was perfect for making s'mores at night.
It felt like I was miles away from home. The best part was not having to drive for hours to get back to reality.

Pros & cons

Pros & cons
  • 3 out of 5
the pros:
The house is tastefully-decorated and is right on the lake. The paddleboat and kayaks are nice. There are several things about it that make it nice for children: at the foot of the yard, the lake is shallow and sandy, rather than rocky. There are some books and toys for children inside, as well as a large chest of outdoor toys on the deck. There is even a child-sized life vest. There is a large yard for children to play in.
the cons:
When we went, there was absolutely zero information about where the nearest grocery store is or recommended places to eat/visit nearby. There wasn't even information about how to connect to the internet, so we struggled at first to find this information out for ourselves.
The quiet peacefulness that most people are looking for when renting a vacation home is interrupted by occasional cars and trucks whizzing by on the main road. There is also a liquor store directly across the street that has bright lights on all night long which shine into the back yard.
The rooms are very small, which is to be expected, but just a heads-up. We could barely fit our daughter's compact travel crib into either of the bedrooms.
Another FYI is that there isn't much that is less than a half hour drive away. May not be a problem for some, but makes it difficult when working around children's naptimes.

Owner's Response: When we hear that someone has not enjoyed their stay at our cottage we are very concerned. We do everything possible to insure that each guest gets what they pay for and enjoys their time at the lake. Especially because we realize that most times this vacation is the only vacation they will take for a year. We would have been more than happy to assist this reviewer when they stayed with us almost one year ago in July of 2011 but we never received any negative feedback from them. We supply renters with many contact numbers and are always available to answer any questions and concerns but we did not hear from them and assumed they were enjoying their vacation.
When you book your rental with us our procedure is to email you the Lake Chaffee Getaway Guest Information. This tells you how to access the key and supplies ALL the pertinent information you need including how to access the WiFi code, where to go for groceries, emergency services, life vests, permitted use of the lake as well as fishing, landline telephone number with free long distance, as well as items included for your use and enjoyment, etc., etc., etc. You do however, need to download this information. In addition we have a display of brochures on local attractions and menu's from nearby restaurants immediately to the right of the telephone on the bookcase in the cottage. We are located approx. 14 min. from Sturbridge Village in MA which has wonderfully elegant restaurants as well as casual restaurants and many attractions including a Stop and Shop grocery store. We are also 15 min. from the UCONN campus in Storrs which has many restaurants and a huge Big Y grocery store.
The cottage is located on the corner of Rte. 89 and Lakeview Drive. There is a very small package store (at least 50 yrs old) across the street from the driveway for the cottage. They have one spot light above their window that illuminates their parking lot but does not impact our property. In fact, there are at least five 20 ft. evergreen trees that separate our driveway from our yard and cottage. We feel secure(due to the feedback that we have received from our previous tenants) that we supply our guests with a very relaxing lake getaway vacation at a very good value and are confident that if you try us you will be pleased.
