Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Otterton - 2 Jacketts Cottages

2 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 4

Jacketts is an old cob farmhouse in a fantastic location on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Otterton. Now divided into two cottages Jacketts 2 makes a deceptively spacious and well appointed home away from home. It has a delightful Conservatory, ideal for those lazy breakfasts while the combined sitting/dinning has an Inglenook with modern gas log burner to warm any chilly nights. Upstairs the double bedroom has a lovely antique solid oak bed originally from Fineshade Abby and a modern semi ensuite shower room. The twin bedroom has its own charm with more antique furniture. For a candle lit bath or the practicality of bathing the children the bonus of a downstairs bathroom gives that added flexibility.

The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the East Devon coast with fantastic local walks along the cliffs and nearby river while for the children there is everything from sandy beaches to adventure parks. This is picture postcard country and the ideal holiday home!

Eating out: The nearest place to eat out is just a few hundred yards away at Otterton Mill. This a working mill where you can see the grain being milled before buying the freshly baked bread or other local delights. The mill has an excellent licenced restaurant for lunch or afternoon tea, as well as a gallery and gift shop where the hidden talent of some of our local artists can be seen. The local pub is also very good but in the next village of East Budleigh there are two excellent pubs for food. In nearby Sidmouth there are a variety of modern wine bars, great restaurants and several old traditional pubs to choose from. Tearooms for the essential 'Devon cream tea' are too numerous to mention and in Budleigh Salterton you can find some of the best Ice cream in Devon.

A home from home in a beautiful part of Devon.

  • 5 of 5

Jacketts was a surprise package for us, we booked fairly late & needed something that was a good deal but in the right location. We opened the door to be wowed by the space & neatness of the cottage, a real home from home & we settle right in. Otterton was an excellent base for seeing the whole area.

Owner's Response: How nice to have positive comments like this on my website. My visitors book has many other similar comments too - the spaciousness of the cottage certainly is a surprise package and I always try to aim for the highest standard with attention to detail. Its a wonderful area and many guests return for further holidays at Jacketts, which is the best recommondation I could have.

Lovely cottage (dog friendly by arrangement)

  • 4 of 5

Cottage was lovely with rooms that were bigger than expected. Quirky layout - but that only added to the enjoyment. Nice that the dog was allowed, he had a good holiday too. The village pub/hotel serves excellent food (even has a menu for the dog!). The Mill has a good range of local food and gifts, and again, is dog friendly. All-in-all a great holiday for humans and dog. Happily recommend.

Lovely Homely Cottage in Picturesue Devon Village

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time in this oldie world cottage. It was spacious and comfortable and we particularly like the gas log fire without the mess which was perfect for the cold evenings. In fact the whole cottage was more than adequately warm. In contrast to the sitting room it was great to be able to sit in the morning sunshine in the not overlooked conservatory watching the birds. It's very clean and well maintained with everything you need in a well equipped kitchen. It has very fine clean bed linen and a comfortable bed. And no fighting over the bathroom either, there's two!

There are so many lovely walks from the cottage including the coastal paths or from just a short drive away. So many other places to visit to you'll never be bored! There's the local community shop for all the basics if you run out.

The owners are helpful and accommodating. We just loved it and will go back again.

A wonderful, comfy, just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in Jacketts, a truly lovely cottage and great place to escape and put your feet up. I don't think it would have mattered what the weather had been, we still would have been able to relax and have a lovely holiday. The cottage was warm and cozy and had everything we could have wished for, what a fantastic selection of games too, if only we could have dragged ourselves away from the fire! In the day we tended to relax in the lovely conservatory and in the evening, curl up in front of the gas log fire. We felt very welcome and had an amazing week, and in such a lovely area. We loved that with the new community shop and Otterton Mill, fantasic walks on the doorstep, that if you didn't want to, you didn't actually need to use the car. We were blessed with lovely weather and did explore a little further, but almost wished it had rained, we would have had an excuse to stay in! Thank you Mundi, for making us feel so welcome and letting us recharge our batteries. We hope to come back later this year, we had a truly wonderful time.

A lovely homely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely 3 nights in this cottage with our two children (aged 5 and 3). It is very homely and well-equipped, with plenty of space for us all. I felt that it was much more spacious than I was expecting from the pictures, and it had a very cosy atmosphere that made you feel at home. The village of Otterton is a very pretty place to stay with lots to do nearby: walks along the river Otter or along the coast path were both beautiful. This is a great base for a holiday and amazing value!

Owner's Response: I'm so pleased you felt at home at Jacketts as that is the aim, to make it a home away from home! Now the Community shop has opened in the village & we have the Mill baking their own bread & selling local produce Otterton really is the perfect base for a holiday. As you say the walks are lovely in the area & its so nice to be able to enjoy these straight from the Cottage without having to drive! Hopefully you will join the increasing number of repeat guests that return to Jacketts year after year! I love welcoming regulars!

A True Home away from home - So warm & Cosy!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is a real surprise package, a true home away from home with everything provided. The new Community Shop in the village is a great asset & the food in the pub has been excellent. Walks straight out from the Cottage are just right for getting the old joints moving! Highly recommended location.

Otterton is a picture postcard pretty Devon village with a seasonal stream running through its heart with many 17th cob and thatch cottages & farmhouses. It lies 2 miles from the sea between Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth on the east bank of the River Otter. The closest beaches are pebbly, ideal for evening BBQs but at Exmouth 8 miles away there is a long sandy beach ideal for children or even kite surfers! The area is within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with wonderfully varied walks - it's truly England at its best. Dartmoor is not far away for a more remote feel, while Exeter is only a 20min drive for everything a Historical Cathedral city has to offer. The Eden project is an accessible day trip but you'll also need a day for the children to go to Crealy Adventure park. There is no shortage of things to do in this area - castles like Powderham to visit, donkeys to ride, fossils to collect, plus many botanical gardens & National Trust properties like Killerton!

Other Activities: go-karting, adventure park.
