About Jane Woolfe

We a British family of 4, moved here in February 1992 and have lived here, year round, ever since.

Jane loves gardening, cooking, reading and the Archers.

Felix loves animals, dancing and computers/technology.

Oskar, 13 when we arrived, now a builder, very useful here and loves Formula 1.

George, 10 when we arrived, is a talented chef and is taking over the management and bookings.

We have come to love it here and all appreciate the real community spirit of the village and its' traditions.

We are keen members of the village walking club for many years.

We spent our early years here learning the Sardane, the Catalan dance of celebration and go regularly to local .

ballroom lessons - Strictly is popular here too!

Jane Woolfe purchased this cottage in 1991

Why Jane Woolfe chose St Laurent de Cerdans

We had settled on Le Roussillon as the ideal place to live. Beautiful, unspoilt mountains, the Mediterraean and lovely climate. Peaceful yet with a vibrant traditional culture. After 3 years of looking we found Le Paloumé in the southernmost valley in France, next to the Spanish ( Catalan) boarder.

Perfect for our new 'Good life' of trying to be self-sufficient away from the pressures of the city, and a healthy life for us and our sons.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cottage is gorgeous, the hospitality is great the views are beyond words, the FOOD IS AMAZING, and the animals are so SWEET! All in all a very memorable stay. Thanks!

Everything you need & nothing you don’t need! And spotlessly clean.

Mandy Nettlemill & family. -

We came exhausted & left renewed….

Wonderful food & company at the “Cherry Time” dinner (banquet). Thank you all for your kindness, hospitality & warmth of welcome.

Adrian & Helen Thorp. -

Ideal spot for group visits, so much to share with friends. We shall return.

Gillian & Jack Penrose, Somerset. -

The main attraction was the animals (better than the peace, quiet & wonderful views etc.) They made it for the kids (8, 8, and 5). Thanks again for letting them feed & help generally. Hope you have as much fun, future visitors. We’ll be back.

Nicki, Steve, Philippa, Alex & Guy. -

Our 5th. year & as wonderful as ever.

A Great Place to Refresh Yourself and Your Family

  • 5 of 5

We wanted beautiful mountain views and simple walks. A quiet, relaxed vacation with good food and historical sites within an hour's drive. My daughter wanted some animals (dogs & cats, horses would be nice too) around and my son a wanted decent internet connection -- I guess we all did. Le Paloume was perfect. It was spring, warm not hot, cool at night, a lovely stone farm house with a decent kitchen, The owners, Jane, Felix and their son, George (English) were very accommodating and great cooks. They had great suggestions of places to visit, trails to walk, village events to attend and restaurants to overeat at. This stone house has expansive views of lush mountains. We had a great week and really got away from our life & work in Boston, USA. The four of us plan to come back... If you are looking for similar things, we highly recommend these accommodations.

Total Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

If you like to stay in the hub of the action, with nightclubs, pubs and every amenity on your doorsep then don't stay here! If on the other hand you are looking for a holiday location where you can relax in the most beautiful surroundings, away from the rush and pressures of everyday life then you've just found your ideal location. When we arrived we thought that the view from our gite was fantastic, but the view from the pool is absolutely unbelievable!

We stayed in the smallest gite, for 2/3 people. It was spotlessly clean, and was provided with everything that we needed. Children, (and adults!), will love all of the free roaming animals, especially Rosey the dog.

Loads of places to see locally, or about 60 minutes drive to the beautifull beaches at Argeles.

Don't miss Jane's goumet evening! I must admit I was fearing it was going to be like the 'Goumet Evening' on Fawlty Towers! Not a bit of it, Jane, Felix and George cooked up the most fabulous meal.

If you are looking for a holiday location where you can relax in beautiful, peaceful surroundings then this is the place for you!

IDYLLIC

  • 5 of 5

Anna&Harry Plymouth

We are returning for the third time over a period of seven years. Idyllic location and homely atmosphere make this a fantastic place to be for people of all ages. Jane Felix and family make you very welcome and provide excellent organic meals if required. They are a mind of useful information on good resturants and places to visit, although you do not have to leave Le Paloume to have a relaxing day. In a nutshell

Chillout factor 10/10

Natural beauty 10/10

A perfect location to regenerate your mind body and soul.

our fantasy home

  • 5 of 5

Our family returned for the sixth time this easter. We have now been alone (pre-children), with in-laws, with one child and now two. We experience instant relaxation when we come here. The setting and view is like paradise. It is peaceful, natural and fun. The children really appreciate the sense of space and freedom - the opposite of what they have in London. They love Jane and the animals and love feeding the chickens and ducks. The dogs follow loyally if you go off on walks which they find thrilling. Jane has lots of recommendations for local restaurants but equally buying local produce and cooking at the farm is a joy. Whenever we leave we never feel it will be the last time - this place has such a magnetic attraction.

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

Warren and I stayed with Jane, Felix and George last summer and had an absolutely wonderful time.

With their free-roaming chickens, geese, dogs, cats, and Jane bustling about in her apron, they are real-life Larkins (from The Darling Buds of May)

Once a week, Jane and George cook up a fabulous three-course dinner, putting their own spin on local dishes. We joined them for succulent Catalan meatballs and divine brioche ‘bombs’ filled with warm chocolate and cherries, while dry-witted Felix entertained us with hilarious stories of farm life, demonstrated the Sardana, the local Catalan dance, and taught us how to drink the traditional Catalan wine, Garnatxa.

It's a great location too. From the gites, we explored the Medieval town of Prats de Mollo and took the beautiful drive across the Pyrenees into Spain to the Dali Museum at La Figueres (just 45 minutes) and then on to Girona (the same again).

We would highly recommend a stay here.

Bev and Warren

Le Paloumé, is 10 mins. drive from the large Catalan village of St. Laurent de Cerdans; with all facilities: shops, bars, restaurants, take always, banks, pharmacy, cinema, museum, tourist information, Saturday market and many outdoor pursuits. Steeped in Catalan culture, the fêtes are lively and great fun with music, dancing, communal meals, amazing cabarets, bals and discos. Near by towns: Amelie les Bains, market & thermal spa town; Céret, modern art gallery; there are daily markets & restaurants to suit every taste.

We are 1 Hour from Perpignan; Mediterranean beaches, Collioure (Matisse); Figueres (Dali museum); 1½ hours Gerona and 2hrs. Barcelona in Spain & Carcassone in France.

There is much local history to explore: 1000 year old castles, abbeys, churches, chateaux...

All this with the magnificent backdrop of Mont Canigou, snow capped for ½ the year.

Other Activities: climbing, tree adventure park, canyoning, dancing, bird watching, gym, sauna, massage & mushrooming.

Golf: Domain De Falgos, only 15 mins. drive from Le Paloumé, is a highly praised 18-hole course with panoramic views from Mount Canigou to the Mediterranean coast. It is par 70 and 5047m and was designed by Alain Dehaye

Amelie Les Bains, 9 hole.

Saint-Cyprien, an 18 hole and 9 hole courses with par 73 and length 6480m.

Torremirona Golf Club, 18 holes, par 72 and length 6245m.

Peralada Gold Club, 18 and a 9 hole, par 71 and length 6704m.

Ski: Skiing is an hour drive in Spain and also and hour and half in France. But in a good year for snow there is a ski run in Prats, only 20 min. drive away.
