About this property

Kibbin | Private, Luxury Stone Cottage by Creek

Fall asleep to the music of Mackey Creek and awaken to a natural paradise! New stone cottage lodged in a secluded setting between pristine, rushing creek and mountainside, with the exquisite beamed interior of white pine, and locally sourced Linville blend stone and granite exterior. Heart pine floors on the main level and wool carpet in the loft. Marvin windows. Four skylights. Combination mountain cabin and Swedish decor. Architecturally exceptional in an extraordinary setting. Nestled near the Pisgah National Forest, the owners' property consists of 7 heavily wooded acres on the house side of Mackey Creek. The owners' back property line runs just below the back side of the ridge line hundreds of feet above the house. The front property line runs along the midpoint of the stream. The owners do not own the bridge over the creek.

About 3 miles by car from Curtis Creek Road leading to US Forest Service's Curtis Creek Campground and about 8 miles by car from the main trailhead for Mackey Mt. and Chesnutwood Mt. on Curtis Creek Road. Scenic access to the Blue Ridge Parkway (about a 15-mile drive from US 70 intersection with Curtis Creek Road) via Curtis Creek Road (steep, winding, mostly gravel, and open only from approximately April to November), which T's into US 70 about 3 miles W of the Kibbin; easy access to Parkway from East Asheville (35-minute drive) or Linville (45-minute drive). Linville Caverns and Linville Falls are a scenic 30-minute drive from the house.

The Biltmore Estate is within a half-hour drive, downtown Asheville within a 35-minute drive, and downtown Black Mountain within a 25-minute drive. Downtown Marion with its annual, nationally publicized Bigfoot Festival (media said that it drew 45,000 people in 2019) every September, and its Mountain Glory Festival every October, is within a 15-minute drive. Of interesting note, Kibbin was featured in the 2018 edition of "Cabin Living: Discovering The Simple American Getaway." A copy of the book is at the home for your enjoyment.

House Layout:
Ground Level-Corner bedroom with a king bed; a full hall bath (shower only); small corner bonus room with a twin bed
Main Level- dining table seats 8 with extender; wood fireplaces (one interior, one on porch); bedroom with a trundle bed; bedroom with a king bed; full hall bath

Great family time
The cabin itself is one of the nicer properties we’ve stayed in. Clean, tons of space, and beautiful surroundings. My kids absolutely loved the creek and played there for hours. We had a great time in the evening around the fire pit. The only (slightly) negative thing I have on this listing is that I thought it would be truly private. Across the bridge there is a building where we had a few ppl in and out of. Not a big deal, but we were hoping we’d be by ourselves in the middle of nowhere. All in all, we’ll be back and probably bring some additional family with us.

Long Weekend Getaway
Very nice and beautiful home. You seem isolated when there but you are only 15 minutes from town. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful cottage!
We had a wonderful stay at Kibbin. The cottage is absolutely beautiful! It was in immaculate shape and beautifully decorated. My son told me he felt famous staying there :) It is in close proximity to multiple mountain towns, but there is not much to do immediately around the cabin. Be prepared to disconnect (we had no cell phone service and a weaker internet signal), but that was part of the fun. Would 100% stay here again and recommend. Perfect family fall getaway, we were sad to leave.

Hidden Gem
Located in the peaceful hills of Old Fort, NC (about 30 mins from Asheville), the Kibbin is a perfect location for an inspiring novelist needing a quiet retreat or an adventurous family needing a home base after a long day of enjoying the great outdoors. The local property managers were very communicative and easy to work, making this beautiful cabin an easy choice for anyone looking for a hidden gem!

Greybeard Rentals manages vacation rentals and vacation cabins in Asheville, Black Mountain, Montreat, Old Fort and surrounding areas. Located 10-15 minutes from downtown Asheville, Black Mountain is a quaint town with many great shopping options, delicious restaurants, breweries and access to hiking trails and wilderness areas. TripAdvisor named Black Mountain one of America's Prettiest Towns in 2017. Asheville is home to award-winning restaurants, stunning mountain views with access to areas like the Blue Ridge Parkway, The Biltmore Estate, and a variety of local art and culture. Oh, and did we mention Asheville has had the record for having more breweries per capita than any other U.S. city? We held the title for Beer City USA in 2009. Hiking trails are also located throughout western North Carolina.
