The location of Daran is particularly favourable for a holiday stay. Located on a hillside, the property overlooks the valley with the Pyrenees in the background. Its absolute peace allows to offer rest as well as hikes, cycling, and horse riding, the exploration of cultural treasure of the Gers or the participation to the nearby festivals of Vic, Mirande, Marciac, etc.
The cottages are of a high standard; a particular attention has been brought to the equipment to offer a high-level comfort: shower room with separate walk-in shower for each bedroom, living room with equipped kitchen, large fireplace, etc.

The natural setting is very green and well maintained with a oak hedge of several hundreds years old lining a stream gives a touch of property and convenience to enjoy the outdoor life with the particularly favourable renowned weather of the Gers in the South-West of France.
On 1 km, along a small stream, we first find maintained meadows for the winter hay on 11 hectares and some pastures where the horses are on 2 hectares. Then a wood of 3 hectares which is starting to be cleared to make some walk and jogging trails (fitness trails!!!) with picnic areas to enjoy the freshness of the undergrowth in summer and the mushrooms picking during mid-season. A horse riding track is also planned as well as a tree climbing course for young ones.
The 2 parking lots are set in a way you cannot see the cars from the house. There is almost no traffic, except for a few tractors, on the small community road that lines the property and that serves a small group of 4 or 5 houses 2 km away. The national road N124, the nearest one, is 12 km away in another valley. The departmental road 34 at the end of the valley is 1 km away as the crow flies, has a exclusively local traffic, and therefore very low.
All this to say that this little very peaceful area will make our guests forget, for the time of a stay, the traffic nuisance that they have to deal with on a daily basis in their home towns.
Riguepeu, village of 225 inhabitants of which 30 in the village, is 1.5 km away from the house.
There is a school, a hostel, 3 foie gras producers and 2 stonecutters.
The closest shops are in Vic-Fezensac, a town of 3700 inhabitants, crossed by the N124 national road connecting Toulouse to Bayonne through Auch, the prefecture of the Gers, a town of 22000 inhabitants. Vic with its bullring attracts the aficionados during the ferias of Pentecost as well as the salsa amateurs at the Tempo-Latino festival at the end of July. Marciac and its jazz festival during the first two weeks of August is 30 min away by car and Mirande and its country music festival during mid-July is 20 min away.
The advantages of the Gers;
This region, the most agricultural region of France in the number of farms, has been subject to a drop of population since the working force has been replaced by the mechanisation of work. Thanks to this phenomenon, the very beautiful architecture, loaded with history of this region has stayed intact without being polluted by new constructions, most of the time uniform and common that do not integrate at all with the local environment!
Moreover, the country's stone, bright and warm and the roofs covered with Roman tiles give an undeniable charm to the buildings.
The history, rich in this transit region, is marked with invasions coming either from the North, or from the South which created the necessity of perching and fortifying the villages, leaving in each one of them the remains of doors, of battlements or churches creating, with the castle still existing or disappeared, the Castelnaus.
More recent, the Bastides, new creations from the 13th century to develop the commercial exchanges under a certain protection, give us villages with large and superb market halls, timbered houses and majestic churches.
The landscape, very undulated by tens of parallel rivers going down the plateau of Lannemezan is superb with its traceries of woods and well cultivated fields. The crest roads offer magnificent panoramas as far as the eye can see.
The environment, very scattered, has favoured the creation of many cultural, sport or of mutual aid associations that are very dynamic. This generates a noteworthy cohesion among the population that does not exist anymore in the towns where all the distractions are lucrative. People are peaceful and hard-working and the relations to money are much less exacerbated.
The road traffic is very low as well as the connected nuisances. The many marked and maintained trails allow making unforgettable hikes, cycling and horse riding excursions.
Finally the proximity to the Pyrenees offers us some very beautiful panoramas (when the atmosphere allows us to see them) and the possibility of practising over 1 or 2 days some excursions or ascents in summer and skiing in winter.
