Great view, but that's all...

“Great Views, but that's ALL!”

A large group of our friends booked this Villa for the New Years Holiday this past December. We booked both Villas which was really cool that we had the chance to all be close together. While this time of year, spirits are high and you cant help but be in a good mood, we embarked on our annual vacation looking forward to fun and sun. Upon arriving to the villa, the view was everything and more that the pictures reflected. That was my positive feedback for this Villa.

Upon checking out the place, the villa was very old and dated in regards to furniture and amenities. The Appliances were old, and the furniture was poor quality and dirty. Their were no televisions in the bedrooms (maybe 1) and the Jacuzzi did not work!!! Day 3, things take a turn for the worst. The Entire property runs out of water leaving all 16 guest unable to shower, flush the toilet and anything else you would do with water for 16 hours!!! The property Manager came up and gave us several excuses and suggested we use bottle water. When you pay premium prices, you expect premium ammenities and we simply did not have that experience. While the property manager apologized, she seemed to be passifying our group and I would never return to this particular villa again under any circumstances. If we stayed here on a bargain, perhaps this would be a good deal, however, that was not the case. St. Marten was a lovely place and I cant wait to get back there, however, i will only stay in a hotel. At least you know the basic amenities will be available. I hope the property manager really reads this (hopefully VRBO will translate) and use this feedback to upgrade this villa. The location and view are great, but the interior are similar to the slums. I am not the type of person to write negative reviews, but writing this review is theraputic allowing me to get these feelings off of my chest and remember the positive things from our vacation. Oh, and they have a Black Cat.. oh the Irony in that.

Beautiful view but what good is a view if you don't have any RUNNING WATER!!??

Once you make it to the top of the somewhat treacherously steep driveway, the villa has a gorgeous and breathtaking view that you can gaze out at all day long. The pool is large but not heated and the jacuzzi in the adjacent Coralia II only gets up to approx 80 degrees (not really what I call a hot tub). The house manager Sabrina was very responsive our first 2 days in the villa, which we rented during peak season thus expecting first class facilities and services. On the 4th afternoon at the villa WE RAN OUT OF POTABLE RUNNING WATER, whcih meant no showers, hand washing or even the ability to flush the toilet!! We were then informed that the villa water operated off of a water reservoir that had apparently ran out. Excuse me!?!?! Shocked and angry barely begins to describe how our group felt. Mind you we had been spending the majority of our first days exploring nearby St. Barths and Pinel island so this was mind blowing to our group (all couples and family)! After approx. 24 hours of no water the reservoir was partially filled back up only to run out of water again a couple days later.

This property has a ton of potential but needs to the exterior power-washed and re-painted, the furniture needs to be updated (probably same furniture has been their 10 years with minimum upkeep so the weathering is really showing and the beds are extremely hard). All of the aforementioned items can easily be accomplished by the owner hiring a profession property management that can maintain the property and doesn't leave guest without running water and fending for themselves while in a foreign country on what's supposed to be a luxury family vacation for the New Year holiday!

Owner's Response: Hello to the group of 16, property rented by Mr Nick, Thank you for your commentary (staying 16 guests:between Dec27 to Jan 3, 2015)!Concerning the problem of water,we understand the inconvenience but we are not responsible.There is a tank of 200 m3.Prior the rental the tank has been checked there was 1/4 of water representing 50m3!This is the first time in 15 years that we had this problem!!!As the owner, I think there was an electricity cut on the day (the pumps stopped working), taps, showers ect ..and was remained open during the day.The guests was to the Pinel Island and the water flowing when the electricity was back!When the customers returned from Pinel Island, they were a little bit high!They send an email at 7:30 pm to inform about the water problem!Sabrina went to the villa Before 8:00 pm with the plumber and he established that there was no problem!Sabrina reach the water company,on the dec30th at night!2 water trucks filled the tank on Dec31 in the morning!The evening of 30 Dec,a hotel was leased gently to our charge for our guests in order to can have a shower !The clients had no car, so Sabrina had to make round trips from the villa to the hotel!I think the effort has been made related to this incident !We are not reponsible of the electricity cut from the collectivity of St Martin!Namely that on our island, it didn’t exist spring water!Like unknowing, the clients asked if it was possible to spend 3 free extra nights.Normally, when guests come on vacation, they have a fixed date for the return and they know where they sleep,specially for the new year period!2 extra nights were offered, As a Commercial compensation for the problem of water! Unfortunately the third night was unavailable and clients were very upset!Related the furniture,its high standard and the matelas are brand new(hard)!By the way,we are in the tropics and pools are not heated. For the hot tub, there is thermometer that you fix at which temperature you wish !Sabrina is very helpfull, she don't hesitate to give her time on arrivals for transportation: from 3:30 to 10:30 pm, they didn't rent cars even to check them friends. ADVICE for the holidays owner:As onwer, I think this customers what I welcome in my property are dishonest and I advice you to check better when you rent to this kind of people who like to abuse! Not happy with days offer, they ask also to paypal in march 2015 to refuse the payment what was made more than 2 months before arrival Oct 31 , 2014 !

Renters Beware

BACKGROUND

Every year for Christmas/New Year’s holiday, a group of close friends and family all travel to an international beach destination. We officially booked this property on October 31, 2014 based on this vrbo listing. We corresponded (via email and phone) with an agent named Sabrina Goubard, who was managing the property for Philippe Premat, who we were informed by Sabrina to be the owner of the property.

MINOR ISSUES

We checked in on 12/27/14 and were immediately taken by the view. The pool was huge and the bedrooms were just as described. The furniture and bed linens were a bit outdated and worn from use over time but it wasn’t terrible nor inhabitable. Sabrina was there to check us in and she gave us a tour of the property. Along the tour, we met Noah, the owner’s cat who stayed at the property. Noah was free to roam the property as he pleased. This was the first time hearing about the cat, which affected several of the homes guest because of cat allergies. Sabrina also showed us the jacuzzi and how to properly turn it on/off. We were excited to use the jacuzzi but when we eventually used it during our stay, the water never got hot. It was lukewarm at best (85 degrees), which defeated the purpose of jumping in a hot tub. All of these above-mentioned issues were things that we were willing to overlook because we wanted to look at the glass as half full and close out 2014 and start 2015 with positive energy.

MAIN ISSUE

On the day of 12/30/14, we visited nearby Pinel Island for most of the day. We had dinner reservations for our friend’s birthday so we couldn’t stay as long as we wanted. Upon our return to the house, we all began to get ready for dinner. Everyone got in the showers so we wouldn’t be late. We were making good time and things were on track until all of the sudden everyone began to emerge from their rooms stating “our water just cut off”. We thought that the water pressure may have just got low because of multiple people using the showers at once but we were not that lucky. We tried every shower and faucet in the property and quickly noticed no water coming out of any faucets, shower and that the toilets wouldn’t flush.

The property manager was not very helpful and could not resolve our water issue right away which resulted in us not having any clean water for 24 hours. STAY AWAY!!!

Huge Pool, Gorgeous Views, Great Location

We stayed at the villa for a week in March. The villa is exceptional and you will not want to leave this view. Perfect place to stay on the Island, many nice restaurants close, beautiful beaches and the villa came with its own dog and cat (both were very friendly). We spent a large part of the time hanging out at the villa and at Bikini Beach. I would highly recommend! Can’t wait to go back.
