A home away from home, perfectly charming
This was just the most perfect holiday we have had in a while. We felt at home from the start. The owner went to great pains to make sure we knew our way around the property and its amenities, sharing things to do and making us feel relaxed. The property is pretty, bright,clean,well-maintained and equipped and the wifi is reasonable. The planchette was great for (man) cooking on the patio. The pool is extremely clean and maintained and although it is shared with the owner, we always were alone. Table tennis is available with a few pool inflatables. A welcome bottle of lovely Gaillac wine, juice and flowers, with aperitifs to finish our holiday in the chateau with the owner and his wife, all contributed to our wonderful stay.
The location, on a hill, has a view to die for! The property is a mixture of old stone and modernity, with all the mod cons. Although it is a little isolated (with plenty of hills around) it is about 15 minutes by car to Puy Laurens, where there are all the local small shops you need plus a couple of reasonable supermarkets.
It is a perfect location for exploring the Pays de Cocagne. Our favourites were Cordes Sur Ciel, Toulouse, Castres and Albi and there are so many small villages including Lautrec, which capture the spirit of the area. Do visit the Chateau of Magrin, which houses the (small) pastel museum, a truly fascinating experience. It throws much light on this area's history and development.
We enjoyed cycling on the voie vertes, our favourites being from Revel, Mazamet and Saint Sulpice.
The selection of restaurants is limited, partly because of the August holidays. L'Etoile, nearby in Puy Laurens, although not much to look at, served lovely food in the evening. We would also recommend Pub St Martin in Soreze and Cafe du Lac, near Revel.
We would love to revisit this area and to return to Mas Du Tour. Highly recommended.
