Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday cottage in Lerici - Az. Agr. Pian della Chiesa
An estate in the Park of Montemarcello in a dell with a vineyard
Pian della Chiesa is located in the south of Liguria at the border of neighbouring Tuscany.
Perched on the steep hills above the Mediterranean sea, the three hectare estate consists of two houses comfortably sleeping ten, set within an oasis of cultivation surrounded by the wild oak woods of the Montemarcello Natural Park. Both have been sensitively and lovingly restored, and utilise solar power for both electricity and hot water in keeping with the ecological values of park and proprietors alike. At one time the park was more intensively cultivated and we have painstakingly renovated the maze of ancient limestone walls that formed the characteristic terracing of the regions traditional agriculture, planting fruit trees, bean plants and potatoes around the edges of the small vineyard and expansive lawn onto which both adjacent houses, Dolina and Dolinetta, face.
Dolina is the larger of the two houses and boasts a large pergola comfortably furnished for al fresco dining. An open plan ground floor comprises kitchen and living area. From the long window that runs the full length of the kitchen gives you a charming panoramic view of the gardens layering the hill to the left of the house. A centrally placed staircase leads from the back of the living area to the master bedroom (with en suite bathroom), and a twin bedroom which has doors opening onto a charming terrace overlooking the garden and vineyard. At the back there is a further twin bedroom with doors leading directly out to the garden, and a large shower room.
Dolinetta, which is at right angles to its larger sister, is fronted by a charming pergola - vines and woven canes shade a table and sun loungers. Two bedrooms, one double and one twin, flank the spacious living area - both have en suite shower rooms, and hangers for clothes. The living area comprises a kitchen/dining area to the right and back, and a cosy seating area with satellite TV to the left.

About Ottavio Muzi-Falconi
Farmer since 2008 after years of office work. We have started producing a good red wine called 'Margot'. 2,000 bottles hopefully next year. Also our extra virgin cold pressed olive oil is excellent but still negligible (26 litres only last year). But our 200 small olives trees are quickly growing. This year we also planted a small vegetable garden, lets hope for the best!
Ottavio Muzi-Falconi purchased this cottage in 2003
What makes this cottage unique
Ideally located within easy reach of Tuscany's famous destinations (Pisa and Lucca 1 hour/ Florence just under two), Pian della Chiesa is also an ideal base from which to explore the wild beauty of the Natural Park with its secret coves and beaches,, charming coastal villages, and forests of holm and turkey oaks, and umbrella pines. The Cinque Terre are just around the corner, with their famous villages crammed picturesquely between sea and cliff, and vineyards so steep that they have to be harvested by mini funiculars. To the east tower the Apennines and Apuan Alps, made from the shining white marble of Carrara so beloved of Michelangelo. Deeply carved valleys still have Roman remains and even vestiges of the original indigenous tribe, the Lunis.
