Perched peacefully on the hillside, 500 metres from the sandy Stalos Beach and set amongst a patchwork of green vineyards, this is definitely a property for the connoisseur looking for a family holiday with a touch of comfort and style with impeccable attention paid to the smallest detail.There are a total of three spacious, three bedroom apartments, two apartments with two bedrooms and one smaller apartment with one bedroom. All the apartments are air conditioned, have their own telephones and share the sparkling 10m x 5m swimming pool, surrounded by sun terraces with pretty flower beds and splashes of bougainvillea adding a vivid touch of colour. Behind the property, vineyards stretch away up the quiet hillside, whilst from your balcony or the poolside, the blue sea beckons beyond the dark green vines.

On a more mundane note,: the apartments have a spacious reception area tucked away to the rear with 3 guest toilets plus a shower. There is also a washing machine for communal use and a storeroom for luggage, especially useful on departure day. Each apartment also has a small safe for valuables.

The nearest taverna plus 2 small mini markets are a convenient 100 metres down the road, with a further choice of tavernas and mini markets strung along the coast road 500 metres away. From here there is also a regular bus service to Chania.

All the apartments have an open plan living area with sofa and easy chairs, plus coffee and dining tables. A pine breakfast bar separates the well equipped kitchens with ample cupboard space and work surfaces, plus full electric cookers and sensibly large fridge freezers. Each of the three bedroom apartments has one bedroom with a double bed and two twin bedrooms. They also have the advantage of both a bathroom and a separate shower room, each with WC & wash basin.

All apartments : have their own private balconies or terraces complete with patio furniture. A particular feature of the property is the large picture windows or floor to ceiling patio doors at the front of each apartment, making the most of the sea views, whilst double glazing keeps the heat outside where it belongs. For those families with an extra person to accommodate, the sofa in the living room converts into a single bed.

Manolis and Dimitra, the proud owners of the property, are Greek Canadians, who decided to return to their Cretan roots, they have their own apartment upstairs and take care of the property and their guests with a perfect combination of discreet Canadian efficiency and genuine Cretan hospitality. Your bed linen is changed twice per week and the apartments are kept spotlessly clean, with maid service on a daily basis except Sundays. Be warned though that Dimitra makes the most delicious cakes and other Cretan specialities which she loves her guests to try.

Sleeps 6/7 people. To the side of the apartment and reached via a path from the driveway this, the largest apartment, has an open plan living room (A/C) with picture windows to the front overlooking a semi circular balcony. To the rear and just one step higher, is the equally spacious kitchen. An archway off the living room leads to an inner hallway with adjoining bathroom and shower room. To the rear of the hallway are 2 twin bedrooms, one of which has patio doors to the rear of the property with views to the hillside vineyards. Off the hallway to the front is a double bedroom with large picture windows and glorious seaviews. This apartment is ideal for clients with limited mobility being on the ground floor and with only one small step up to the entrance and one interior step.

"The owners are so friendly, helpful and above all welcoming. We had lengthy delays with our flight home and the local Rep, Diane, suggested we check in and go back to the apartment to wait. When we arrived, we were welcomed with coffee, cold drinks and some wonderful cake. They set up the communal room for us to allow our young children to get some rest if needed, provided us with linen etc. Where else would you get such kindness?

The apartments (6 in all) as well kitted out, spacious and well maintained. The pool is rarely busy and it is so peaceful and relaxing. A special thank you to Diane for all her help during the flight delays in re-booking our transfer to the airport and giving so much support and assistance. Yes, we will be returning."

Great Stay in Rouladina Aprtments - Stalos

We had a great couple of weeks in Apartment 1 at Rouladina Apartments this August. The property was clean and well maintained, and the cleaning and linen service 5 times a week was just what our messy families needed. The pool was also clean and well maintained, and most of the time we had the whole of one end pretty much to ourselves.

We found some great restaurants in the area, and although the value was not so great with the weak pound, the huge portions kept us happy. We thought the local Stalos beach was perfect for our needs, and day trips to Chania, the waterpark and other beaches kept everyone happy.

The only slight niggle was the basic showers, and the toilet cistern plumbing that needs some attention too.

Overall a great holiday, thanks to the owners and their kind hospitality (lovely cake!), and I'm sure we'll be back.

wonderful holiday

Just returned from 2 weeks of bliss, lovely apartment in an idyllic setting. the owners Dimitri and Manaolis were so kind nand helpful. Everything we could ever need was provided and the apartment was kept spotlessly clean by the extremely dedicated maid. we hired a car and explored the beaches at Elanfonissi just like a tropical paradise and Falasarn with the warm winds. Do the Samaria gorge and the Fenneys guide to Chania you will always wish you had. i will be telling all my friends to visit this island and to stay at ROULADINA

Simply brilliant

I am happy to find a website where I can rave about these apartments. We planned a holiday (2007) as a family of five (four adults, one child) so we chose a three bedroom. Firstly, the pictures do not do the place justice. It's VERY clean (thanks to the housekeeper Joanne!) and spacious. It has a airy feeling and the set up of the apartment was perfect. The view is spectacular because the complex is set on the hill overlooking everything. Restaurants are within a one minute walk down the hill as well as several small stores selling milk, bread, and other necessities. The beach is a two minute walk and the bus stop is at the end of the hill making it fantastic to go to Chania city centre for shopping & site seeing. The owners are truly accommodating - letting my daughter borrow pool toys from their storage unit, and letting us read and return books at our leisure. You'll be well impressed with everything the apartments have to offer. There is only one must - YOU MUST ASK THE OWNERS WHERE TO GO FOR AUTHENTIC FOOD! They have a relative that owns an incredible restaurant with the most unbelieveable views. The food was superb and service unbeatable! We're coming back this summer and we know we will not be disappointed.

7 km west of Chania, the village of Lower Stalos fringes a long, sandy beach with the island of Theodorou, said to be a petrified sea monster, rising from the sea just a short distance off shore. There are numerous small pensions and apartments as well as half a dozen convenient little mini-markets and an excellent little patisserie, selling delicious fresh baguettes and croissants. There are also a number of waterside tavernas with shady terraces overlooking the sea and teenagers can chill out at one of the atmospheric palm thatched beach bars. 1km inland the small village of Upper Stalos nestles serenely on the hillside amidst a patchwork of vineyards and olive groves.

Here you will find a slower pace of life as well as a couple of the best local tavernas in the area, both certainly worth a visit or two.
