Perched peacefully on the hillside, 500 metres from the sandy Stalos Beach and set amongst a patchwork of green vineyards, this is definitely a property for the connoisseur looking for a family holiday with a touch of comfort and style with impeccable attention paid to the smallest detail.There are a total of three spacious, three bedroom apartments, two apartments with two bedrooms and one smaller apartment with one bedroom. All the apartments are air conditioned, have their own telephones and share the sparkling 10m x 5m swimming pool, surrounded by sun terraces with pretty flower beds and splashes of bougainvillea adding a vivid touch of colour. Behind the property, vineyards stretch away up the quiet hillside, whilst from your balcony or the poolside, the blue sea beckons beyond the dark green vines.

On a more mundane note,: the apartments have a spacious reception area tucked away to the rear with 3 guest toilets plus a shower. There is also a washing machine for communal use and a storeroom for luggage, especially useful on departure day. Each apartment also has a small safe for valuables.

The nearest taverna plus 2 small mini markets are a convenient 100 metres down the road, with a further choice of tavernas and mini markets strung along the coast road 500 metres away. From here there is also a regular bus service to Chania.

All the apartments have an open plan living area with sofa and easy chairs, plus coffee and dining tables. A pine breakfast bar separates the well equipped kitchens with ample cupboard space and work surfaces, plus full electric cookers and sensibly large fridge freezers. Each of the three bedroom apartments has one bedroom with a double bed and two twin bedrooms. They also have the advantage of both a bathroom and a separate shower room, each with WC & wash basin.

All apartments : have their own private balconies or terraces complete with patio furniture. A particular feature of the property is the large picture windows or floor to ceiling patio doors at the front of each apartment, making the most of the sea views, whilst double glazing keeps the heat outside where it belongs. For those families with an extra person to accommodate, the sofa in the living room converts into a single bed.

Manolis and Dimitra, the proud owners of the property, are Greek Canadians, who decided to return to their Cretan roots, they have their own apartment upstairs and take care of the property and their guests with a perfect combination of discreet Canadian efficiency and genuine Cretan hospitality. Your bed linen is changed twice per week and the apartments are kept spotlessly clean, with maid service on a daily basis except Sundays. Be warned though that Dimitra makes the most delicious cakes and other Cretan specialities which she loves her guests to try.

On the second floor and reached by a staircase from the rear of the property, this apartment has an entrance door into the spacious open plan living area with the kitchen to one side and beyond this an archway leads to an inner hallway with bathroom and double bedroom to the front, plus a twin bedroom with en-suite shower room to the rear. This apartment also has full length patio windows off the living room and double bedroom leading to balconies with wonderful sea views.

"The owners are so friendly, helpful and above all welcoming. We had lengthy delays with our flight home and the local Rep, Diane, suggested we check in and go back to the apartment to wait. When we arrived, we were welcomed with coffee, cold drinks and some wonderful cake. They set up the communal room for us to allow our young children to get some rest if needed, provided us with linen etc. Where else would you get such kindness?

The apartments (6 in all) as well kitted out, spacious and well maintained. The pool is rarely busy and it is so peaceful and relaxing. A special thank you to Diane for all her help during the flight delays in re-booking our transfer to the airport and giving so much support and assistance. Yes, we will be returning."

We have just returned from staying at the Rouladina apartments and have had an excellent time. The first week we were a family of 3 and then our sons came out in the second week . The apartment was able to accommodate all five of us perfectly well. The beds are too hard, this is my only concern. Joanna the maid is good and Diane the reprresentative was extremely friendly and helpful. The owners kept in the background, but were available if needeed. The whole property was clean and well maintained and provided us with a very comfortable base from which to explore Western Crete. We would recommend Ravdoucha beach; excellent for snorkelling and very quiet.The taverna on the beach was very good; traditional Cretan food simply prepared.

The rear of the property did not match the photos, perhaps they could be updated or omitted as the views at the front more than compensate for them. Upper Stalos does not have a huge range of entertainment for teenagers,but Platanias is a short bus ride away, should it be a little too quiet in Stalos.

The library and the washing machine are excellent added extras provided at no extra cost. We would certainly recommend this accommodation to friends or relatives.

We have so many repeat clients to this small group of sea view apartments just because they do have a little of everything to suit everybody, just as you found - quiet enough but not too far away from somewhere that suited your teenagers, serviced but not dominated by the owners. Manolis and Dimitra provide just the right amount of Cretan hospitality without being at all over riding. They do, by the way also provide softer mattress 'toppers' for those who find their orthopaedic mattresses a tad too firm. They really have thought of everything for a relaxed holiday. Great Apartments, Great Holiday!

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 weeks' holiday at Rouladina Apartments. This was our first visit to Crete with our two boys aged 15 and 8 and we were certainly not disappointed. The Apartments are comfortable and clean and in an ideal position away from the bustle of the Tavernas and shops and beach but within easy strolling distance. The photos on the website really do give an accurate idea of the properties and surroundings. The beach is lovely and we spent plenty of time there as well as in the Apartments' pool. The grounds of the Apartments are very attractive and there is plenty of shade available. The owners, Manolis and Dimitra are lovely and we were given a wonderful welcome with home made cakes and Raki! Manolis also regularly gave us produce from his small allotment which he harvested in the mornings. There is maid service every day except Sunday and the sheets and towels are changed twice a week. The area itself is ideal, not too busy but having a good choice of Tavernas and small shops. We hired a car and enjoyed a couple of trips out to Falassarna (North west, about 45 mins drive) and through the mountains to Elafonisi, Southwest about 2hrs drive). If you don't hire a car there is a regular bus service into the main town of Chania, about 20 mins drive and there is also a great water park within about a half hour drive where we spent a very enjoyable day. The weather was fabulous, clear blue skies and hot sunshine every day. We would thoroughly recommend Crete as a holiday destination and these apartments particularly. We are hoping to book again for next year!

7 km west of Chania, the village of Lower Stalos fringes a long, sandy beach with the island of Theodorou, said to be a petrified sea monster, rising from the sea just a short distance off shore. There are numerous small pensions and apartments as well as half a dozen convenient little mini-markets and an excellent little patisserie, selling delicious fresh baguettes and croissants. There are also a number of waterside tavernas with shady terraces overlooking the sea and teenagers can chill out at one of the atmospheric palm thatched beach bars. 1km inland the small village of Upper Stalos nestles serenely on the hillside amidst a patchwork of vineyards and olive groves.

Here you will find a slower pace of life as well as a couple of the best local tavernas in the area, both certainly worth a visit or two.
