Flights: The nearest airport is Tivat International, which is just 10 minutes away from Kotor. Montenegro Airlines (http://www.montenegro-airlines.com/ ) fly to Tivat directly from Gatwick three times a week. Another perfectly good option is Dubrovnik, in next door Croatia. Dubrovnik Airport is only a 70 km journey and a lovely straight drive and short ferry crossing. There are more airlines that fly into Dubrovnik (Easyjet, British Airways, Croatia Airways, ThomsonFly , FlyBe etc) so you can find flights a good bit cheaper than the so-convenient Gatwick -Tivat route. Ryanair has recently announced new service from Europe to Tivat.
Car Hire and Directions: All the usual car hire companies are available at Dubrovnik and most at Tivat, and can be booked online. When booking, do check they are happy for the car to be taken over the border and inexpensive extra insurance is recommended for this, and remember, car headlights have to be switched on at all times in Montenegro, day or night. The Drive From Dubrovnik: about one hour to 70 mins depending on traffic. Turn left out of Dubrovnik airport and keep driving over the border crossing, straight through town of Herceg Novi (all on the same road) until you see the sign for Kotor.
The nearest grocery store (Jadran Market) is within walking distance. Small shops and cafés occur at regular intervals along the jetties that line the Dobrota waterfront only 5 minutes from Kotor Old Town. The nearest beach is a 2-minute walk across the street and down a few steps adjacent to the Forza Mare hotel, one of only two 5-star resorts in the area. The owner has negotiated an agreement with the management of Forza Mare, whereby his guests will receive 10% discount on all meals consumed at Forza Mare. Enjoy the luxury of a sea front unforgettable dinner among the local jetsetters at affordable prices. For more details about the Forza Mare hotel, go to www.forzamare.com
Montenegro, with an average of 240 sun-filled days each year, blends the gentleness of the Mediterranean with the ferocity of white water and snow-capped mountains. Whether you are looking for calm and relaxation, or excitement and energy, you will find it here.
Back in the 19th century, Lord Byron wrote 'At the birth of our planet, the most beautiful encounter between the land and the sea must have happened at the coast of Montenegro.' It still retains its unmatchable natural charm and beauty and the Bay of Kotor is indubitably the jewel in its crown. Architecture dating back to the 12th Century is still prevalent among the many heritage towns and villages. Montenegro's natural beauty is dramatic; mountains dropping down to mirrored water in the UNESCO-protected Kotor fjord and the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic lapping the sandy beaches of the coast.
