La Perle is an enchanting private home on the two top floors of an old village house, in the medieval village of Haut de Cagnes. The view from the terrace is absolutely stunning both day and night. It is like being on the bridge of a ship.
This luxury apartment has recently been completely renovated. It is decorated in a Provencal style, with a mixture of modern furniture and local antiques. Both floors are air conditioned, and there is high speed internet. On the lower floor, there is a bedroom with a sea view and a queen size bed (160 x 200 cm). There is a marble tiled bathroom with a shower and washing machine. On the top floor is the living/dining-room, with a fireplace and a modern kitchen. There is a 3 ring induction stove, a microwave, an oven, a dishwasher, a kettle, and a toaster. All along the main wall of the room, there are windows and sliding glass doors, opening onto the terrace. The terrace comes with an awning, that makes it a very pleasant place to be, even on the hottest summer day.
There is a satellite-TV (French and Swedish), a DVD-player, and a Bose stereo. Telephone is included, to landlines in Europe and North America. A notebook pc can be supplied on demand. The bookcase offers books, DVDs and CDs.
My name is Lena, and I am Swedish. Back home, I used to be a business journalist, writing mainly about the psychology behind it all. But like many people, I always had a dream about living in France. In 2002, my dream came through, and I found Haut de Cagnes - a hidden gem. I have never regretted it! Nowadays, however, I also have a small apartment in Stockholm - that I can rent out too!
I fell in love with La Perle when I first saw it - the view, the light, the atmosphere. It is unique and is really worth its name!
The first six years I only used it as a rental property. People just loved it, and many come back regularly. Two years ago, I completely refurbished it and made it my own home. Since I also own a studio on the ground floor of the building - and an apartment in Stockholm - I can still rent it out and let others enjoy this lovely place!
La Perle is a mix between historic and modern. It is very well equipped, and you will find everything you need (if not, just let me know!). Looking out on the sea and the mountains from the terrace or the living-room is just wonderful - in summer or winter, in daytime or night time, in rain or sunshine. Indoors, you will enjoy the old stone floors, the wooden ceiling beams - or the modern and fully equipped kitchen.
The historic village of Haut-de-Cagnes is a charming little world of its own. It sits on a hilltop, between Nice and Antibes, and is only about a 20 minutes walk from the beach. Nice airport is 15 minutes by car. Buses take you to Nice, Antibes, Cannes, Grasse, St Paul and Vence. The train runs along the coast to Italy. The village itself has around 10 restaurants.
At the foot of the hill, in the town of Cagnes-sur-Mer, there is a wonderful covered Provencal food market, surrounded by stalls with vegetables, fruits and flowers. Little shops offer local specialities. There are a couple of supermarkets in the town centre, and many more in the immediate region.
There is a free shuttle (navette) that will take you up and down between Haut-de-Cagnes and Cagnes-sur-Mer. It ends up at the local square in Cagnes-sur-Mer, very close to various shopping possibilities. The navette runs every 15 min, and is very convenient if you have a lot of groceries to carry or if you are with children in strollers. It takes you all the way up to the ”Place du Chateau”, in Haut-de-Cagnes, and down again.
The district of Le Haut-de-Cagnes was listed as a historical site in 1948. It has held on to the calm atmosphere of a village with its history-laden stones, its shady, narrow streets decorated with flowers, and its unique views over the Mediterranean.
A number of artists, in love with the Mediterranean light, settled down in this pretty village known as 'The Montmartre of the Côte d’Azur'.
Known artists and writers are; Renoir, Soutine, Klein, Foujita, Modigliani, Derain, Georges Simenon, John Lewis, Brigitte Bardot and Greta Garbo. Most of whom had either lived here or vacation for a longer period of time.
