A native of Leigh on Sea in Essex I got to know this area in 1974 when we arranged an exchange for our children with a French military family whose 'summer and family home' was in this area. After many visits to this family we purchased, 1989, our own 'holiday home' in Bellenot. On my retirement in 1995 we moved permanetly to Bellenot. In 2001 we purchased a barn to store a small sailing dinghy and with it came a semi derelict cottage which had not been lived in for sixty years A local society then approached us and asked could we not save the cottage from becoming a ruin. This we did and, as the saying goes, the rest is history.
My own children and grandchildren together with other family members and friends have, since 1989, enjoyed coming to this area time after time. This is one very important reason why we renovated the cottage so that it could all be enjoyed by others.
The grandparents of the local farmer, now retired, who sold us the property is delighted that his old family home, which had not been lived in for 60years, has been saved and is being enjoyed by so many people. We have been delighted to welcome many guests from all over the world who, without exception, have fallen in love with both the cottage and the surrounding area. In particular they have really enjoyed cycling along the canal and in the surrounding countryside. (modern bikes are at our guests disposal and others can be hired fro Pouilly), visiting all the many historic sites, enjoyed Dijon and Beaune (in particular sampling the wine at Beaune and other famous wine villages), swimming in the reservoir, A pleasure boat operates from Pouilly giving canal trips even passing through a 3km tunnel under the town. There are many way marked walks in this beautiful & sparsly occupied area. One guest said that if there is a paradise on earth then this must surly either be it or very near to it!
