OUTINGS NEARBY
You can easily get around Tzitzifes on foot and of course stop at the local traditional kafeneion which serves Greek coffee, raki and soft drinks in the shade of a vine. You can visit the tavernas in the village to savour traditional, Cretan dishes, such as moussaka, tzatziki and pies, all made from the purest ingredients. A short distance from the village at a place called “Kremastos”, there is a big cave named “Marmarospilio” with stalactites and stalagmites. The village of Tzitzifes gets its name from the Tzitzifia tree which flourishes in the area. Right in the centre of the village is a spring, the stonework around it was built in 1871. It’s cold, crystal clear water which descends from the White Mountains is particularly good for digestion. At the same spot there are two huge plane trees that are over 600 years old.

Among the festivities that take place in the village are “The Festival of Christ” at the old Byzantine church on the 5th and 6th August and celebrations for “The Birth of The Virgin Mary” on 7th and 8th September.

A car is recommended to enable you to explore not only the surrounding area but also the rest of the wonderful island of Crete.

In Apokoronas, which is the name of the wider district, there are many quaint, well-maintained villages including Tzitzifes, as well as fertile stretches of land, caves, sights of ecological interest, delightful countryside, and both daytime and evening traditional entertainment.

The village of Vrysses (6 km from Tzitzifes) provides all the basic amenities, from a supermarket, pharmacy, post office and bakery, to ATMs and a petrol station.

At the small seaside town of Georgioupolis (12 km from Tzitzifes) there is a wonderful, long, sandy beach with crystal clear water, and a separate shallow part particularly suitable for children to swim in. This beach has earned a Blue Flag and offers sunbeds, umbrellas and a variety of water sports.

In the picturesque town of Chania (32 km from Tzitzifes) there is a wide range of shopping options, nightlife and places to wine and dine, mostly around the old Venetian harbour. There are dozens of interesting sights to visit in Chania including the Public Market building, the Venetian walls, the Egyptian lighthouse, the Synagogue, the Firkas Fortress, the Gyali Tzamisi Mosque and the Orthodox Cathedral. The Archaeological and Maritime museums, among others, are also well worth a visit.

In the aristocratic town of Rethymno (34 km from Tzitzifes) you can stroll around the cobbled streets of the old town, see the Fortezza –the Venetian fort, the Venetian Loggia and the lion-headed Rimondi fountain, go shopping, or simply enjoy a long walk along the beachfront.

Rural Retreat
Clean and well equipped villa with amazing views! The villa is located in a small rural village which is great for peace and quiet but within easy reach of a larger town, a vehicle is a must if you’re wanting to explore further afield. We had a real warm welcome with Zoi providing us with some home made pastries and knowledge of the villa and local amenities. Would definitely recommend!

A real getaway villa
We had a great time in the villa. The outside space - eating area was a real highlight, and we had breakfast and dinner under the trees. The villa was very well equipped for a good self-catering holiday for our two families. The pool provided a welcome relief from the heat - but was quite small, and would have been fantastic if it had been a bit bigger. Everywhere was really clean and comfortable. Local taverna in walking distance and was very good. We enjoyed waking up to a beautiful sunset every morning and the peace and tranquility. It was a good base for exploring the West - Chania is not too far, and some really lovely beaches and beautiful lake very easy to get to. You need a car though - I think it would be very difficult otherwise. I haven't stayed anywhere quite like this before so it was a very different holiday. Zoi was extremely helpful and responsive, answering questions before booking and made us feel very welcome. There is wifi, but signal weak - or too many devices trying to connect at any one time - probably due to three teenagers in our party. However the ready availability of wifi all the time is not always a good thing. Local shops in the next door village, and a man drives around in a pick up selling other produce. Much bigger town Vryses a few miles away had a number of supermarkets and a butchers and were very friendly. Sunshine most of the day around the pool, shade at the eating area, beautiful white mountains, grounds with figs and fragrant flowers and basil - a rustic away from it all holiday! Thank you Zoi.

What an excellent holiday!!
Modernized but keeping a traditional style, Villa Zoi has everything that you need for a self-catering holiday. The standard of furnishings, linen and utensils was good and we couldn't suggest anything else is needed. The owners are so friendly and helpful (nothing was too much trouble); that definitely helps you feel at home. We especially like how peaceful the location was in a Cretan village and that the terrace around 2 sides of the villa meant that you could always choose whether you wanted sun or shade!

Villa Zoi forever!!!!!!!
This place is awesome! After the first time we stayed there, it was obvious to us that when we'll come back to Creta, it will be there again. The village is very quiet, no far at all from the sea and some main roads, and very authentic. No tourists and very nice and friendly people. Vrisses is not far at all if you need anything. There is Taverna Tsitsifia in the village: not expensive at all and only local and natural products are used for their really cretan foods. The contact with the owners, aspecially with Zoi is very natural and friendly. They respond to every need you have. They are fantastic. The house is wonderful, very clean, very nice and practical. Ther are 4 rooms, so you can go there with 8 people. The rooms upstairs can be independant, they have their own bathroom, refrigerator, ... The other two are downstairs, and have a common bathroom and a very pleasant kitchen, with everything you need (really everything)! The swimming pool is really cool, in the middle of an olivre grove as you can see with the pictures. With no doubt, for our next stays in Creta, Villa Zoi is and will be our only choice! Thx for everything, Zoi!

My name is Zoë, which means “Life” in English. I look forward to having you to stay at our house on the beautiful island of Crete! I live in Chania, I am married and have two sons. I love to travel, cook and welcome visitors who stay at our Tzitzifes house. I realize that not all travelers are the same and some, perhaps like you, would like a holiday that appeals to all their senses, without following the crowds and without having a standard itinerary. After all, true relaxation can only be achieved if we let ourselves go, unwind, empty our minds of all thoughts, change scenery and spend time as close to nature as possible. My husband George and I will do our best to ensure that you have a unique holiday in Crete. If you have any questions regarding your stay here, please do not hesitate to ask us, we are always ready to help.
The village of Tzitzifes is the ideal place to find peace and quiet, and to enjoy nature with friends or family. It is particularly suitable for nature lovers seeking not only relaxation, mild physical exercise, walking and a healthy diet based on pure, organic ingredients, but also local entertainment and meeting the local people ( communication mainly in English). It would be a great pleasure to welcome you here!

Why they chose this property

Villa Zoi is the ideal spot for families, couples or groups of friends seeking something different and who want to get to know the authentic side of Crete. Most of you will think of Crete as a popular tourist destination. Indeed, the big towns and tourist resorts on the island are flooded with thousands of visitors from far and wide every year. These people enjoy their holidays staying in big hotel chains or smaller establishments with all the amenities and get to visit the nearby sights.
Don’t get us wrong! This type of holiday is great, too! Yet Crete also has outstanding places which are popular with the locals but remain virtually unknown to tourists. A stay in Tzitzifes will ensure you take away unforgettable memories unlike any of those from the usual tourist hotspots. Those of you who love walking or jogging will have yet another reason to love Villa Zoi as the trails around the village of Tzitzifes lead to wooded areas, ravines and other routes into the superb Cretan countryside. There is nothing more refreshing than waking up to the chirping of birds, then dipping into your pool, dressing casually without worrying about how you look and just enjoying a drink or a nice book in the morning sunshine or in the shade of a tree while the day is still young.

What makes this property unique

Naturally, our villa provides facilities such as all the necessary equipment, comfortable beds, a swimming pool among olive trees and we ensure the cleanliness of the premises. But that’s not all. What wins the hearts of visitors is how attentive we are. We are there to cater to their needs, answer any questions they have, give them advice on things to do and see, as we would do for our own friends. It’s the treats, the hospitality, our smiles and the reassurance that they will have everything they need that lead them to feeling content having stayed here and leaving with the wish to come back for more. It’s the authentic Cretan lifestyle in the village, like when vehicles drive past selling fresh bread, fruit and vegetables, just like in the old days. It’s the Greek menus that we come up with for our guests, homemade dishes prepared with special care and using the freshest ingredients for your enjoyment. It’s our attention to detail that makes the difference.
