SUPERB 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT IN GREAT LOCATION

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Nice Old Town (Vieux Nice)

2 Bedrooms, 1 bathroom, apartment sleeps 4-5, floor area approx 63m2

Wonderful light and airy 2 bedroom apartment in the Old Town (Vieux Nice).

Our apartment is on the 2nd floor of a typical Nicois building in Rue Francois Zanin, a quiet but wide pedestrian street just round the corner (literally!) from the Old Town’s fabulous markets, shops, bars and restaurants and less than 10 minutes walk from both the beach and the port. It is also only a couple of minutes walk from bus and tram stops on Nice’s excellent public transport system which provides excellent services to the airport (20 minutes) and the many attractions in Nice and the wider area.

The apartment comprises a large (5m x 4m) double-window sitting room with dining area, a modern American-style kitchen, 2 bedrooms (one with a double bed and a walk-in wardrobe, the other with two single beds) and a modern WC/shower room.

The Old Town of Nice is one of Euope's 'jewels' - the historic buildings and pedestrianised streets are filled with the atmosphere of the local markets, restaurants and street cafes which you can enjoy or wander through, by day or night, relaxed and secure. Don't get put off by the city's reputation as a playground for the rich - the close proximity of the beach and the bus and trams stops (providing services not just to local attractions but also to Monaco, Cannes, etc) and the myriad of very reasonably priced restaurants and cafes means that you can have just as much fun on a tight budget!

About Iain Vellacott

In 2005 my wife and I decided to move our family from Oxfordshire to South West France where I now work as an artist (www.inoils.com) as well as returning to the UK to continue my professional consultancy practice.

Iain Vellacott purchased this apartment in 2006

Why Iain Vellacott chose Nice Old Town (Vieux Nice)

We bought this apartment because of its wonderful location at the top of the Old Town - less than 10 minutes stroll through the pedestrianised streets to the front, only a couple of minutes from stops on Nice's excellent public transport and yet quiet (important to me as I am a light sleeper!)

What makes this apartment unique

Our fundamental objective has always been that people should have a great holiday so we did up the apartment and maintain it (with the help of our excellent local agent) in the way that we would want to find an apartment ourselves.

Perfect location for a "getaway"!

Perfect location for a "getaway"!

We (grandparents, mum, dad and 11 year old son) spent a week in Iain's brilliant apartment in Nice old town. It is superbly situated in the historic streets and you have bakery, restaurants, buses, trams.. everything right on your doorstep. There is everything you need including parasol and mats for the beach. As someone mentioned travel is super cheap and you can buy a "muti" ticket for the buses so a journey costs 1€!! There is loads to experience in Nice and along the coast...we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would highly recommend the apartment. Iain was very friendly and professional in helping us to organise things. Thanks for a super week!

Would recommend for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children and romantic getaway.

Ideally placed property

Central location for our needs, a family apartment. We were able to travel on the trains, trams and buses without concern. We were lucky that the Grand Prix was on during our stay and we managed to get to Monaco the atmosphere was brilliant, the bus was 1.50 each way number 100from behind the monoprix. Also went to marineland didn't know who enjoyed it most me or my 5 year old catch the 200 bus 1 euro each way catch it by hotel meridian caught the train back. Food we ate in a few times however there was a plethora of restaurants within close proximity to the apartment.

Amazing stay!!

  • 5 out of 5
Me, my husband, our three year old daughter and both of our mothers stayed in this cosy apartment for 10 days. We were met by the most welcoming woman that helped us settle in and get all the necessary information. In this apartment you will find everything you need, even buckets and spades to bring to the beach for our daughter! It's close to everything, in the middle of beautiful vibrant old town, with all it's little boutiques, cafes and restaurant. right around the corner is the bus stop to go Monaco or better yet Villefranche-sur-mer with it's little beach. We will definetly go back and would recomend it to anybody. Iain has been great from first contact til the last. Always doing his best to help us. Outstanding service! Thank you!

Wonderful flat in the old city

  • 5 out of 5
We had a wonderful stay in Nice. The flat was as advertised. Iain was extremely reliable during each stage: arranging the stay, the payment and the particulars of our arrival and departure. The flat was well-stocked with what we expected -- in the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and general living space. The location is excellent - in old town. We couldn't have been better situated. We would stay there again.

Old Town atmosphere with modern comfort

  • 5 out of 5
Location, location, location! Having also stayed further west, in the Gambetta area of Nice, we can definitely say this is better. You’ll spend almost nothing on transport in the city once you’re installed here. Rather amusingly, having been attracted to this apartment by its proximity to the bus station (we had decided to challenge ourselves to a holiday using only public transport), we found out from Iain, when I casually mentioned this in a pre-departure email exchange, that the bus station had been demolished! (It turns out that this is to make way for the Coulée Verte/ 'Promenade du Paillon' (google for info) which, when complete – allegedly in Sept 2013 - will only enhance the location…) However, loss of the station was not a problem. Many bus lines from all directions lead to Place Garibaldi (google Lignes d’Azur) and once you’re there, you’re a 3-minute, pleasant walk from your accommodation. We’d endorse all that’s been said by others re the apartment - apart from reservations expressed re the noise. It’s not silent like country gîtes we’ve stayed in, but we didn’t expect that from a town-centre location - there’s no traffic noise and we loved the sounds of the Old Town waking up and going to sleep: (unlike Gambetta) and the pleasant, evening restaurant buzz dies down from 10.30 and disappears by 11.30. Lots of places to eat: high-class busking in Place Rossetti makes it appealing, but la Table Alziari, has a much more authentic feel – and there’s the lovely M. Alziari himself. The temptation to cook at home is also huge, with 3 metro-style supermarkets and many great, small food shops on your doorstep. Ideal location too if travelling with older teenage children, since its centrality allows everyone to satellite off and do their own thing. Also a good introduction to renting from private owners, as communication with Iain couldn’t be easier and Samira, his agent who meets you, gives a very helpful and warm introduction to the apartment and area. Staying here you feel as though you’re living in the town rather than drifting through it as a tourist.

Owner's Response: Thank so much for your kind comments. Yes, the demolition of the bus station came as a surprise to me (and I corrected the advert immediately I learnt about it) but, as you say, the same excellent bus services still stop very close to the apartment. And thanks for all your other comments – I am delighted that you and your family had such a good holiday. Iain

Nicely updated apartment in Old Nice

  • 4 out of 5
The photos and description of the apartment are accurate. It is an old building but the apartment has been updated fairly well. Beds were comfortable, kitchen was usable, bathroom was nice. The washer/dryer was handy, although we used the outside lines for drying. The TV gets English language news channels and there is a good DVD selection. The location of the apartment is in the middle of the tourist zone and within walking distance of the beach and many sights. It is a bit noisy with the restaurants down below, but the windows are good quality and will seal out the noise for those who want to go to bed early or are light sleepers. This apartment and the location are good for those who want an atypical experience from the standard tourist hotel; particularly if you want to prepare some meals at home. There were a few minor maintenance issues, lightbulbs and such, that need attention, and one of the kitchen cabinets is positioned to give you a good knock on the head on the way to the bathroom. The woman who showed us the apartment pointed it out, but try remembering that in the middle of the night when nature calls.
