THE VILLAGE: The semi mountainous landscape of this village is different from the sea landscape and worth visiting. Its formation is very picturesque combining olive tree groves, sculptured rock formations and spectacular views to the sea. The village is ideal for people looking for privacy, deep relaxation and sea activities
The village, a very old settlement from Venetian Times, is located at 600m altitude and has been famous from ancient times for its healthy, dry climate. It is surrounded by forests and beautiful and gigantic rocks, has many natural water springs (from where Anatoli takes water) and many places of natural beauty to explore, either by walking, by mountain bike or by car.
As the village is built against a steep slope, car access is restricted. The houses are surrounded by walkways, while the main road and parking area are at a distance of 15-30 m.
The village consists mainly of houses in some of which can still be found donkeys, chicken, cats, etc. It has not been exploited touristicly since there is an active cultural society aiming at sustainable development.

About Ioanna Dorovinis
IOANNA DOROVINIS is an architect (M.Sc. Columbia Un. NYC), specialist in Conservation of Historic Buildings and Settlements (M.A. York Un.UK), with a PhD in History of Architecture.
The village of ANATOLI in Ierapetra Crete was the last stop in her long journey for the safeguard of Cretan Architectural Heritage, for which she has devoted the last 20 years of her career by the Ministry of Planning, Department of Traditional Settlements.
When she first visited the village, in 1997, in an autumn rainy day, the ruins and the landscape around exerted such strong influence to her that she decided to buy a house in Crete, the PASIPHAE (after the queen of Minoa), and convert it into a family resort. As the merits, beauty and diversity of local architectural patterns were revealed to her, more ruined houses were bought, restored and added to the company’s property, that she formed with her husband, lawyer, historian and political scientist Vassili Dorovinis (KALLIROHE HOUSE-from the water nymph-SMARAGDA HOUSE-the previous owner's typical local name- the AMALTHEIA Coffee House in the old Market street). The company aimed at the protection and the enhancement of local houses by their conversion into outstanding examples of touristic accommodation of Cretan domestic architecture.Today the village is slowly being restored with fine historic architecture since other owners were inspired to save and restore their houses.
She is the writer of many articles concerning architectural heritage, while her doctorate thesis will soon be published under the title “The Domestic Architecture of Mytilene, Lesbos island, (1830-1920) Historical background-City Planning-Architecture”.
Ioanna Dorovinis purchased this chateau / country house in 2004
Why Ioanna Dorovinis chose Anatoli
The semi deserted village of ANATOLI was not chosen by chance. It has the characteristics of a common, semi mountainous traditional village of last century, with simple, severe stone houses, that are tied up together and adjusted to the rocky environment in a unique and marvelous way. The landscape reminds Santorini for the stunning views to the sea and Monemvassia for the amazing sculptured rocky formations.
The location is ideal offering ecological environment while being close to some of the most beautiful -blue flag-sandy beaches of Southeastern Crete, monuments of various historic periods and facilities of city center (Ierapetra).
The sojourn in these houses is further amplified with stylish furnishings and decoration of local and neoclassical pieces, turning them into Art Houses.
