LOVELY OLD COTTAGE IN PEACEFUL WOODED VALLEY

Overview

Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Looe - Watergate Cottage

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 4 + 2

This delightful old cottage, dating from around 1750, stands in a beautiful wooded valley by the West Looe estuary. This idyllic spot is perfect for birdwatchers and walkers. The sound of the stream running nearby adds to the feeling of tranquillity. There is a pretty 45 minute walk through Kilminorth woods beside the estuary to the lively town of Looe. Several beaches, the picturesque old fishing village of Polperro and the South West coast path are a short distance away.

The oak beamed sitting room with wood burning stove is very cosy.

The small garden terrace with table, chairs & barbecue is perfect for a relaxing meal 'al fresco'.

Provisions: Looe has a good selection of small shops. In particular there is an excellent fresh fish shop right by the fish market on the quay. There is a good village shop in Pelynt (10 mins by car).

For larger supermarkets Liskeard is the best bet (20 mins by car).

Pets: We welcome pets and responsible owners. Please clear up after your pet, in particularly in the area around the cottage and the neighbours' houses. Pets are most definitely not allowed in the bedrooms or on the furniture.

A home from home

This is a beautiful old cottage in a perfect location if you want peace and quiet and to enjoy nature. There is a bird feeder right outside the kitchen door so on a morning you can just sit and watch the birds (and sometimes squirrel) enjoying their breakfast. The owners supply the bird seed too so all you have to do is fill the feeder up. We watched herons and kingfishers on the estuary just yards from the front door too. The log fire is very welcoming and the cottage is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need to make it feel just like home. The walk into Looe next to the estuary is lovely, but do be aware of high tides. We got cut off one day and had to do a detour into the woods! Do go to the Jubilee Inn for a pub meal in Pelynt. We had the best meals ever!

Absolutely delightful old cottage

This holiday cottage was more than we expected. It was clean warm and very welcoming. We arrived in the evening to a beautifully warm and very comfortable cottage, the beds were made and the rooms were lovely. The kitchen had everything in it you need for cooking family meals. Also a washing machine and tumble dryer. We were a family of six, aged from 7- 70, plus two dogs. The walks around the property were fantastic. We will be going back hopefully next year, and i have already recommended "Watergate cottage" to my family and friends.

Lovely, cosy cottage in perfect location.

We loved the secluded location of the cottage with so many original features still in place and yet modernly furnished. The daily walk into Looe via the woods with dog in tow was a great start to the day and we spotted all sorts of wonderful wildlife including a heron; the scenery was spectacular. Dodging the hightide also added another dimension to our walks which included a 12 mile walk to Talland Bay directly from the cottage; this time with willing teenage daughter who throughly enjoyed the view and undulating terrain.

It was a good base to explore the sights of Cornwall and enjoy the bustle of popular places such as Fowey, Rock, Polperro etc but returning to the tranquil of the cottage was a delight. It was so peaceful and relaxing and we appreciated the selection of DVDs particularly at the end of the day with our aching feet. This is a truly wonderful place.

We had a fantastic time at the cottage.Everything was taken care of we needed for nothing. We just crashed out and did very little. we especially enjoyed the log fire and the comfort it provided. The rooms were all comfortable and all appliances easy to use. The cottage is excellent value for money.

A very cosy home with a large kitchen, in a quiet and beautiful surrounding. We enjoyed walks to Looe and the sea there, the birds and squirrels around the home, and the nice patio. The coast path is beautiful, for example from Looe to Polperro. The living room had especially good heating, which made it very comfortable.
The toilet in the bathroom upstairs didn't flush too well, and the bedroom there was quickly humid, which the owners try to alleviate with a humidity machine.
The kitchen is well furnished, and has lots of space. Especially the oven, washer and dryer have been frequently used by us. We missed a few mats for hot cooking pans.
All in all a beautiful cottage, we've been there for three weeks, but could easily have stayed there for three months.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately 2012 has been the wettest June & July for 100 years which may have made the back bedroom a little damp. Lets hope for a sunny summer in 2013!

The cottage is in a beautiful, secluded valley close to the West Looe estuary. The surrounding woods and river are home to a huge variety of birds and other wildlife. The nearby port of Looe is an unspoilt fishing village dating back to the 12th century. It has many historic buildings including smugglers' pubs and some of Cornwall's finest restaurants. There is a gently shelving child-friendly beach and the coast is excellent for sport fishing. A short drive leads to the picturesque village of Polperro - crammed into a gash in the cliffs, its position is truly breath-taking. For the more energetic walking the South West coast path is a fantastic way to enjoy the glorious scenery.
