My husband & I are originally from Chicago. I spent my childhood coming to Laporte with my family and loving it. So when my hubby & I decided to buy a lake house I knew I wanted laporte. Then 2 years ago we had the opportunity to buy the cottage house next door and its been a labor of love rehabbing it. We now live in Laporte full time.
Jan purchased this cottage in 2012
Why Jan chose Rolling Prairie
My husband John & I were lucky enough to buy the cottage house next door 2 years ago. We gutted and remodeled it for family and friends to stay but we had so many people ask if they could rent it and I have now been an Innkeeper for 2 years and love it. I want our guests to arrive at the cottage and leave there everyday stresses. I tell them to make the cottage here own. I greet every guest and show them everything the house offers then we leave them alone and are here if they need anything.
What makes this cottage unique
I always loved the cottage house it was built in 1915 and I knew when I remodeled it I would mix old with new. We found beautiful hardwood floors throughout a gorgeous fireplace. I put in hickory kitchen cabinets which look great with the pine floors in the kitchen. Then through in the sparkle of stainless steel appliances. So when I decorated I mixed my love of old with new. I am a treasure hunter so there are little touches all over the cottage that people see. I also have had repeat guests now and they noticed that I changed a few things since they were there last. When guests are fortunate to stay over the holidays they get to stay in a Christmas wonderland. I get the biggest kick out of guests when they want to buy something I have in the cottage it makes all my treasure hunting worthwhile.
