Have a unique experience of Amsterdam on a spacious and light homely houseboat, situated on a picturesque canal among the real local Amsterdammers of Oud-West. We ask our guests to be aware of this and respect our lovely neighbours.
This neighborhood is without a doubt one of the most authentic and original parts of the city, we are proud to say that this area does not have any tourist traps and you can truly experience great variety, food and shops among the locals.
And yet must-sees such as the Dam Square, Vondelpark, Westerpark, Anne Frank House, van Gogh and Rembrandt museums are all located within walking distance!
Meander to the oldest part of the city called the Jordaan to enjoy boutique shopping and fantastic food, or walk to the theatre district and enjoy the great nightlife around the Leidse Square.
The boat is quite large with its 15 meters length and 5 meters width!
There are 2 bedrooms. One comfortable and spacious master bedroom with a big double bed (180x210 cm).
Adjacent is the second bedroom with a comfortable double bed (160x200 cm). It is a nice room with soft sheep wool carpet.
Next to the second bedroom you will find a stylish Italian tiled bathroom with a bathtub and big rain shower in it.
The kitchen runs across the second bedroom and the bathroom. It is equipped with a professional Boretti gasstove and oven, microwave/oven, fridge, dishwasher and you will find a washing machine and a dryer. Iris loves cooking and you'll find many cookbooks and spices, pots and pans etc. The drawers are fully stocked with all you can think of in order to make a complete diner for your family.
And if you don’t feel like cooking, rest assured, you are surrounded by some of the best restaurants in town.
The livingroom is about a comfortable 25 square meters and filled with natural light through all the windows. We particularly love our natural curtains being the floating garden next to our window where you will find birdlife happily going about their business. Furthermore there is a large flatscreen with digital television, a dvd/cd player with a dolby surround sound system. The great thing of living on a boat is that you live in a free-standing water villa and you won't annoy the neighbors when playing your favorite tune!
We have of course a child-seat and we have a playpen at your disposal.
All rooms have water view and there is WiFi and cable connection.
Not that you would hopefully need it in Summer but there is floor heating all through the boat.
Also the boat has a small terrace and a little settee between the boat and the street level.
We wish to share the great experience of living in this gorgeous part of Amsterdam on this beautiful canal!

Hi there, thanks for visiting our personal page, and hopefully we'll meet soon at our houseboat! We lived on this boat for 7 years now and really enjoyed every moment of it. You can really call us houseboat enthusiasts, with a huge love for the great life on the water. Iris is a child psychologist and Juul is an entrepreneur and fishing guide, and we both love the hospitality business. So be welcome!
Juul Steyn purchased this house boat in 2007
The Babeth is without a doubt one of the most beautiful houseboats around. The well designed boat with curved ceilings, lovely portholes and huge windows in the living room are just a few reasons why we fell in love with this boat. A few other reasons: it's very close to various supermarkets, nightshops, restaurants, bars and of course the great Jordaan area. Just have a look around and convince yourself
Perfect location close to bars, restaurants, entertainment and shops. The architecture will make you feel at home right away. And you'll never be bored in this lively part of Amsterdam. Just walk out the door and start walking in any given direction and you will be surprised about the variety of things of interest!
Where do I begin? The houseboat was even better than anticipated. Juul was so wonderful with his communication and willingness to help -- even when he was on holiday! The houseboat was super clean (and I'm fussy) and in a perfect location with so many places within walking distance. Having a glass of wine on the rooftop terrace while watching the world go by was priceless and was an experience you won't get in a hotel. I have told everyone I know how much I love Amsterdam and staying on Juul's houseboat was the highlight.
When traveling, I like to experience the culture of the area so staying on a houseboat was on the Must Do List when my two adult sons and I visited Amsterdam. We could not have made a better choice. Juul was so friendly and helpful before we even left the States, he is keenly interested in doing anything possible to make his guests' stay enjoyable. The houseboat itself is gorgeous, extremely clean and Juul and his wife were very generous about sharing everything in their home. The rooftop deck is an excellent people watching spot, including bicycle riders by the hundreds. Juul recommended several nearby restaurants, with this location everything you might want to do is easily accessible. If you want to be an Amsterdamer, instead of a tourist, it doesn't get better than this houseboat!
We stayed on Juul's beautiful houseboat for two weeks in November 2014. Everything about our stay was great. Juul's met us on arrival and provided all the information we needed and checked during our stay to ensure everything was going well.
The houseboat itself is really comfortable with plenty or room and all the comforts of home. We really enjoyed watching the world go by as people went about their business on the banks of the canal. The very regular visits by swans, ducks and other water birds were delightful. Even though we didn't feed them, they came right to the windows to see what was happening.
The location is excellent. We were able to walk to many attractions or take the trams which stops very close by. There are also many restaurants close by and if, as we often did, you decide to cook for yourself there is a supermarket a couple of minutes walk away.
It was certainly a memorable stay and we would highly recommend it.
My family (2 adults and a 6 yr old boy) stayed on the houseboat for 3 nights. Juul was very friendly and helpful. The houseboat is lovely, very well maintained with everything we needed (other than a corkskrew). The location is very good for restaurants and small food shops. Its only 1 minute to the tram stop to take you to the centre, and doesnt take long. Overall we were very happy and plan to return.
Péniche louée pour un week ed entre amis: super! Quartier agréable, ni trop exentré, ni trop animé. Très jolie déco, cosy et clean. Rien à redire.
Hôtes agréables et disponibles.
Un vrai bon plan!
The upcoming area 'Oud West' is without a doubt one of the hottest places to be right now. No tourist traps, loads of great shops, organic products and fantastic small restaurants at walking distance. Stay with us and experience how it is to live like a real Amsterdam local!
