Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Umbertide

5 Bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 10/11

Vasciano is an historic farmhouse, located on a hillside in the lovely, tranquil Niccone Valley. It has been beautifully restored to combine traditional features with modern comforts. The accommodation includes a self-contained flat, never let separately. It is surrounded by 5 acres of terraces, sensitively landscaped gardens, olive groves, fruit trees, & a private pool with spectacular panoramic views. There are 3 outdoor eating areas including a shady pergola & a scented loggia. The house is well furnished, with a fully equipped, recently modernised kitchen, a large dining room and a sitting room, once a small chapel. It offers extensive entertainment resources in the form of books, movies, piano, TV, wi-fi, a games room with snooker/pool, table tennis & darts, & a boules court. It is perfectly located for combining visits to the many historic towns in central Italy with peaceful relaxation in unspoilt rural surroundings.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This place "Your second home" has been a true find for us - it has everything we need for a chilled holiday. We are rather boring people to some as we go on holiday to relax, cook and eat good food and drink good wines. We have found this all here and a great kitchen that makes me feel at home.

I am going to need more storage on my iPad considering the number of photographs I have taken of the house and your magnificent garden.

Comments from Owner Guestbook

1. 'We thought Vasciano was wonderful: it made one of our best holidays ever.'
2. 'We were delighted with the house, the accommodation, the views, the finishes, the furnishing, the equipment and all aspects of the property.'
3. ' We had a wonderful holiday in your house and enjoyed its position and magical views. We enjoyed visiting all the lovely medieval towns in the area, but Vasciano was always wonderful to return to at the end of the day - such a peaceful, relaxing spot.'
4. 'Not even your extensive photos had prepared us for the full delight of the house with its comfort, tranquility and magnificent views. We had a superb holiday, marred only by the agonising daily problem of having to choose between idling around the swimming pool and arduous exploration of renaissance painting.'

Perfect holiday villa

  • 5 out of 5
This is our third visit to Vasciano and we will keep on coming back. The setting ie beautiful, the house is well equipped and comfortable whilst remaining homely. We have brough young children and teenagers and there is plenty to entertain them, with the pool, play area, games room and extensive DVD and board games collections.

I have been to many holiday villas and I can honestly say that nothing beats this one.

The perfect Italian hideaway.

  • 5 out of 5
The pictures and description of Vasciano, on the website, do not do it justice. When we walked through that little pair of wrought iron gates, at the entrance, the only thing we could think of, was Wow!!! and if somewhere has the wow factor, it certainly is this property. The facilities and equipment for exceeded our expectations, it was like being at home, in Italy. The outside space, for a large family gathering, was extremely well thought out. It gave us the opportunity to find some quality quiet time to relax, read or simply just enjoy the stunning views and it was also great for getting together to enjoy all the local produce, that we very adeptly turned into some fantastic meal times, not forgetting the local wines. Take a trip to 'I Girasoli Di Sant' Andrea' and you will see what we mean. The property was spotless in its presentation, the gardens lush and well kept and the various herbs were a nice addition to our evening meals. The owners were very helpful and supportive in our preparations before our trip to Vasciano and the representative there was only a phone call away. We would recommend this property to family, friends and in fact, anyone going to Italy. The location of the property, albeit off the beaten track, was quite central to visit some of Central Italy's most beautiful sights.

Beautifully restored house in a stunning location

  • 5 out of 5
This old Italian house has been beautifully restored to retain many of its original features but with very up to date facilities. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is a choice of 4 different places to dine. Set on the side of a hill there are wonderful views of unspoilt countryside all around. We spent a family week at the house with our 4 young grandchildren. They loved the pool and the games room and there was a lot of things in the house for their amusement. The house had been well cleaned when we arrived and the garden and pool were maintained during the week. We loved the gardens and the variety of different places to sit, relax and enjoy the views. There are plenty of places to visit within easy driving distance, Perugia, Umbertide, Lake Trasimeno, Cortona, Montepulciano. Pienza and Sienna. However it is very tempting to just laze around and enjoy the house and garden. The access is perhaps a bit challenging if you are a very nervous driver, but it is well worth the effort. The owners have been most helpful and friendly throughout and we would love to return some time in the future

Wonderful - even prettier than the pictures!

  • 5 out of 5
We were a group of 7 adults and 5 children (ages 3 months - 6 years) who stayed at Vasciano for one week over Easters, and it was really quite special.

First off - the owners were extremely helpful from the start, and provided us with all information we could possibly need.
While at the location, we had been provided with a number of people we could easily get in touch with in case we needed assistance. Even so, the owners called to make sure we were doing alright upon our arrival.

The house is gorgeous and perfect for sharing with friends or a big family. Kitchen is well equipped and the house has got all you'd need and more during a vacation. The surrounding areas are just gorgeous, and the garden is so beautiful with breathtaking views.

Location is great for exploring the must sees in Tuscany and Umbria, but for us, having traveled around the area before, just staying put in the house and enjoying the scenery right there was also perfect.

We highly recommend renting! I can also recommend the cooking service with chefs coming over to prepare typical Italian meals.

Italian country retreat

  • 5 out of 5
What a wonderful week - 7 of us from Australia and Canada found this huge character-filled old farmhouse up a winding country road in the most stunning garden setting with views over the Niccone valley. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided including comfortable bedrooms, modern bathrooms, heaps of linen, all manner of cooking needs including BBQ, herbs/spices etc, two different outside eating areas and free internet access. The pool was used daily and provided a relaxing alternative to sightseeing. Sunday lunch overlooking nearby Lake Trasimeno, trips to local Cortona, as well as Orvieto, Florence, Assissi and lesser known local towns were all part of our lovely holiday. A nearby village with small supermarket, cafe for coffee and icecream was useful, and we ate at a traditional italian restaurant recommended in the owners "guidebook" . We would love to return some time in the future ..... one day maybe.

Vasciano is one of a small cluster of old stone houses sprinkled on the hillside of the beautiful Niccone Valley - an unspoilt agricultural area growing sunflowers, maize, vines, olives. Walkers & riders love the spectacular views all around. Along the valley and on some hilltops are small villages, with numerous places to eat good local food & wine. Nearest is Mercatale, a small, friendly place with essential shops, bars, & restaurant. Over hills at one end of the valley, a short drive takes you to Cortona and Lake Trasimeno. The other end of the valley meets the Tiber Valley, with easy access to Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio and many other wonderful Renaissance & Etruscan towns. To see the sights of Rome & Florence, day trips by train are quick and easy, whereas Siena, Urbino & Orvieto are possible by car. The area is famous for its many annual festivals, from opera, music and jazz to those celebrating local gastronomic delights such as truffles, porcini, chestnuts, oil, wine & chocolate.

Other Activities: golf, fishing, sailing & other water sports on Lake Trasimeno

There is no central heating, but a variety of other ways of heating the house in cold weather. There are two pellet burning stoves, an open log fireplace, two wood-burning stoves (a woodshed), and a number of gas heaters. There are also electric blankets for really cold nights! In all the bedrooms there are pull-down mesh screens on the windows, for those times of the year when there are insects in action. There are four different places to eat - one indoors and three outdoors, all of which can seat at least ten people. Special arrangements can be made for cooking, baby sitting, and extra cleaning. There is a large separate games room with table tennis, snooker, pool and darts; plus a boule court outside. There is a piano in the house.
