Overview

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday estate in Chestertown - Highfield Manor

Mid-Century Estate w/Pond, Indoor Pool, Spa/Sauna, Gourmet Kitchen, sleeps 8-10

Highfield Manor is the perfect location for your romantic wedding and reception, corporate event, or vacation with family and friends.

Nestled amongst towering great oaks and rushing streams, Highfield Manor offers guests luxurious living, breathtaking views of Whitehill Pond and a relaxing indoor pool and sauna....all just minutes from the Chesapeake Bay.

Our guests can enjoy al fresco dining on the many stone terraces and wrap-around balconies. Later, take a stroll along Whitehill pond, and enjoy its lovely fountain and wooden float. Hike across running streams via quaint wooden footbridges to explore the 25 acres of flora and fauna. Relax by the serene koi pond, with playful frogs and turtles, and a beautiful stone waterfall.

Once indoors, you'll be greeted with a stylish yet comfortable modern estate home. The living and dining areas are anchored by a large wood-burning fireplace. For the musician, an ebony baby grand piano sets off the unbelievable panoramic view of Whitehill Pond and beyond. Floor-to-ceiling windows create an atmosphere of living in the sky!

A mix of mid-century modern and circa-1930 French salon furniture nicely complement the original artwork and modern architectural details of the home.

Just ahead is every gourmand's dream; a custom kitchen featuring a Viking stove, double oven, Sub-Zero refrigerator, Jenn-Aire warmer, wet bar, granite countertops and a large butler's pantry. You can prepare an intimate dinner for two or a feast for many...Bon Appetit!

Next, walking up the open staircase, you'll discover the master bedroom, with king bed, built-in cabinets, ensuite bathroom and a balcony overlooking the property. The balcony is a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee or an evening cocktail.

Each tastefully decorated bedroom on this level has a wood-burning stove (non-operational) and plenty of storage.

Bedroom 2 also has a balcony and a queen bed, as well as an ensuite bathroom.

Bedroom 3 has a full bed and an ensuite bathroom.

Next, walk up the open staircase to the bonus bedroom, with treetop views, twin beds and cable/wifi flatscreen TV. This spot has been called the highest point in Kent County. What views!

Another fabulous feature of Highfield Manor is the indoor spa located on the lower level. Relax and de-stress in the built-in sauna and eight-person Jacuzzi. For your convenience, the spa area includes a large shower and powder room.

Once you leave the spa you can relax in the nicely appointed entertainment room, featuring a large flat-screen TV, queen sleep sofa, poker/backgammon table and walk-out deck.

Just steps away, Highfield Manor also includes a detached enclosed pool house featuring a heated Eternity Pool, and 5-bay carport.

Access to the pool and parking is included in your Highfield Manor rental.

Due to safety and security concerns, children under ten years old are not permitted at Highfield Manor.

Highfield Manor's unique architecture and natural setting is often compared to the modern classic estate Fallingwater. We hope you'll enjoy your stay, and choose to visit Highfield Manor time and again when on Maryland's beautiful Eastern Shore.

Luxury in the woods

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived we didnt want to leave! The house decor is beyond exquisite, the view from the great room is breathtaking... this is the perfect home away from home location. The long meanderading driveway was plowed so we could arrive safely after a major snow storm. Connie the caretaker, who lives on the premises near the pool house, gave us the tour, and we immediately felt comfortable. All imaculately clean bedrooms offered comfortable bedding, robes and slippers! The kitchen...where do i begin...martini bar, attractive dishes, flatware and entertaining pieces. The butcher block island was a perfect place to entertain while cooking on the Viking Range...a real treat! I highly recommend this property. The pictures on VRBO do not do this house justice, we knew it was going to be nice but it exceeded our expectations! Come and enjoy!

A beautiful Oasis with lots of charm

  • 5 of 5

We have really enjoyed visiting Chestertown because of all of the quaint shops and wonderful restaurants. For this visit, instead of just driving in for the day, we decided to find a place to stay for a weekend get away. We read wonderful reviews about HighField Manner and decided to rent the house for the weekend. When we arrived, the home and the grounds far exceeded our expectations. The owner Jack welcomed us at the front door and made us feel right at home. From the moment we walked in, the first thing that caught our eyes was the beautiful great room with a ribbon of windows facing the back of the property. There was a large pond with a fountain and a beautiful stream that ran through the grounds with many foot bridges. There were so many desks in the back of the house and little cobble stone patios, which allowed for great seating areas to relax and take in the picturesque views. The house itself was immaculate. The décor was beautifully done with modern touches of furnishings and art work. The bedrooms provide very comfortable accommodations with great views of the surrounding landscape. The amenities were wonderful with a large indoor Jacuzzi hot tub and a sauna. Jack was very accommodating and made sure that we had everything that we needed to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. We loved High Field Manner so much, that we have chosen this place to have our wedding. Thank you Jack for a wonderful experience and we look forward to coming back.

Plan on a yearly tradition!!!

  • 5 of 5

This property is absolutely gorgeous! The living room is elegant yet warm and comfortable. It has a wall of windows overlooking the stunning grounds. The bedrooms were spacious, beautifully decorated, with extremely comfortable beds. I was there with girlfriends and we each had our own clean, bright, bathroom. The gourmet kitchen was a pleasure to cook in and well stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals and happy hour of course. We spent a little time in the charming town of nearby Chestertown but honestly did not want to leave the house. It had everything we wanted and needed. The owner, Jack, was friendly, helpful and a pleasure to work with. We plan to make our stay here a yearly tradition.

Tranquil reunion

  • 5 of 5

This was my first visit to Jack's place--college friends reunion. The home was gorgeous. We spent most of the time in the living room overlooking the beautiful grounds. The beds were comfy. The kitchen gourmet and well stocked. The baths luxurious. The beds were comfy. The yard was delightful and serene. The pool hit the spot for a quick workout. This retreat was conveniently located near charming Chestertown, Md. My friends and I would come back in a heartbeat!! LOVED IT!!

Nice place, disappointed in owner

  • 1 of 5

We and three other couples rented this house for a long weekend. The PROS:The house is very nice and the kitchen was furnished for cooking. It's got nice rooms, a nice property & I like that we didn't all have to share one bathroom.

The CONS: I was disappointed that after we agreed on a price the owner informed us that the hot tub was broken but didn't offer to give us a discount. I felt that would have been fair, but let it go. After dinner the first night the sink garbage disposal got clogged. When we started to gather in the living room to play games we couldn't get the living room lights on, and found one of the leather sling chair's stitching was loose so that we couldn't use it. It was late for calling the caretaker, so I called the next morning. I told her about the 3 items & informed the man who came to fix the disposal & the lights that the wood under the sink was rotten & moldy from the disposal having a long term leak. He took care of the lights (circuit breaker issue), took the chair with him & fixed the clog in the disposal. So far so good.

A month later & I still hadn't received my security deposit. I call the owner & he informs me that the chair is being looked at by the insurance adjuster & that he's holding my check. I told him that we didn't break the chair -- that the stitching was loose & I was merely letting them know as a courtesy, same as I'd like renters to let me know of anything that needs attention in my own rental. He then proceeds to challenge me: the chair was fine the day before when it was dusted, he hadn't seen it broken the last time he was there, etc. When I explained that we never even had the opportunity to use the chair, he got a bit heated & insisted that all was well prior to our arrival. (Luckily he didn't accuse us of causing the rotten, mildewed floor under the sink, too, since no one had apparently ever noticed that, either!) He eventually agreed to send my deposit back, but not after basically calling me a liar & getting quite nasty.

We've rented houses for years both in the US & in Europe. I've generally been pleased & often we end up returning to places year after year. One couple we were with was going to rent this home until I told them about the homeowner's behavior, when they decided to steer clear. The whole incident left a very bad taste in my mouth & ruined what otherwise would have been a very nice weekend.

Better than descsribed!

  • 5 of 5

We have rented many properties through VRBO over the years. This property is our absolute favorite. We grew up in the area and were excited to see this home available. We were always curious about it. Jack met us when we arrived. He immediately made us feel at home. He took the time to give us on a tour and show us how everything operated. The interior was spotless. The beds were comfortable - we slept very well. The sauna, hot tub and pool were fabulous. The kitchen was a dream. We enjoyed walking the property, crossing the foot bridges, watching the birds and squirrels. We so enjoyed sitting in the living area and taking in the view. The lights at night on the trees were incredible. It was fun to be at tree top level and watch the leaves fall from the trees and see them drift to the ground. We even enjoyed watching some snow fall. We will be back next year. Everything was perfect!

Charming historic Chestertown MD houses Washington College as well as Emmanuel Church, which was the site of the first Episcopal Church in America. Many significant sites from America's Colonial Period, the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and the Civil War are in the area.

Chestertown also hosts lively entertainment at The Garfield Theatre, and many festivals along the riverfront and at the town's Fountain Park. A replica of the 1768 schooner Sultana holds proud watch over the marina, and also offers educational tours.

The award-winning Lemon Leaf Cafe has the 'best cream of crab soup' on the Eastern shore, but don't leave town without trying their famous crab cakes and lemon meringue pie. Evening entertainment is often offered at the adjoining JR's Pub. One can spend the day shopping, antiquing or just strolling along the cobblestone sidewalks of this Eastern Shore gem.

Shopping in Chestertown can take you from the gorgeous antiques at Poor Richard's to the chic styles at Mimi's Closet. Don't miss the local flavor of gift shops Twigs and Teacups, Gabriela's or Dockside. Art galleries, coffee shops and quaint restaurants will entice you, and the weary can have a day of beauty at Flow salon. Also, the Queenstown Outlets are only 25 minutes away.

Just down the road is a boater's paradise. Rock Hall, Maryland is a waterfront town offering gorgeous views of America's treasure, the Chesapeake Bay. Swim, sail or kayak to your heart's content. Crabs, clams and rockfish are the prime catch for the local watermen, and their bounty can become your entree within just a few moments.
