About Patricia Cosgrave

My husband John and myself have lived in Rome for just over 30 years. We met in Birmingham and decided to come to Italy when our two children were babies. Although most of Italy is well worth visiting we particualy like the Roman Hills (Castelli Romani) where we live. We live in Villa Marion, a seperate floor totaly independent from the apartment so visitors can always ask for help or advice on where to go or what is going on in the area. We names the villa 'Marion' after my mother.

Patricia Cosgrave purchased this apartment in 1989

Why Patricia Cosgrave chose Castelli Romani

We bought the villa as a family home in 1989 after living in other areas of Italy. The apartment was a work shop for the previous owners but over the years we decided to change it into the apartment is it today.

Villa Marion - Roman Hills

  • 5 out of 5
We arrived at Villa Marion in June 2009. It was a special holiday for my husband and ,I as we had a very traumatic previous 12 months, and just needed a special place to recoup. Well, we found that in Villa Marion. The apartment was spacious and spotless, the bedrooms very comfy and loads of storage space. The bathroom was spotless as was the modern kitchen. In fact we could not find any fault with either the apartment or the location. The owners John and Trisha, were so kind and helpful, their knowledge of the area, i.e local restaurants, historical sites, beach locations, etc were faultless, in fact nothing was to much trouble for them. There were plenty of board games to play, the plunge pool was a great relief in the hot weather, in fact if all you wanted to do was sit, relax, read a book or have a dip in the pool, it is idyilic. It was great not being in the centre of Rome with all that hussle and bussle, you could travel in from Frascatti on the train in a matter, of 30 minutes, take in the sites, then have a leisurely train ride back to Frascatti, and a taxi back to Villa Marion, such bliss. If you like more activity, there is horse riding, hiking, swimming, and lots more to keep both adults and children alike happy for many hours. I cannot wait for my hoiliday next year with my grandchildren in tow. We would not hesitate to reccomnd Villa Marion, whether you want to lounge by the pool or be a more active culture vulture., go, rent a car and take in the sites, you will not be dissapointed.

Owner's Response: It is so nice to read reviews from people who you spent time with and you now think of as friends. I have always loved this part of Italy, it is so nice to know other people feel the same.

Lovely retreat at the end of the day!

  • 5 out of 5
Great hospitality from wonderful hosts (English speaking). You will need a car at this accommodation, however with the Frascati railway station park-and-ride (10 mins drive) there is no need to drive into the city.
We loved our stay, the Villa is wonderful - quiet, relaxing and a comfortable distance to the Eternal city.
We also visited the Magic Land theme park and the AcquaParka swimming pools, both easy 20 - 30 min drives from Villa Marion.
Recommend for families, and great retreat after a full day of exploring Rome.

Spring break

  • 4 out of 5
A warm welcome awaits here from Tricia and John. This basement apartment is situated in the owner's large house but has its own private access and garden with patio and lovely views over the mountains. Very peaceful location and a car would be recommended but not far to local amenities. We caught the train into Rome from Frascati which is 10 mins away by car. Half an hour into Rome Termini and all the wonders of this amazing city but lots to see nearby too, espcially Hadian's villa and Ostia Antica. We had everything we needed in the apartment and did use the heating as it was chilly in the mornings and evenings as the property is about 800m up but this must be a bonus in the summer. No language problems as Tricia is English and John lived in England for many years. They were our saviours when the Icelandic volcano went up and we ended up staying for nearly another week - we own them a huge thank you for their kindness when things were so stressful and we didn't know how we were going to get home.

Our great holiday staying at the Villa Marion

  • 4 out of 5
After a long journey we were delighted to arrive at our lovely spacious apartment in Rome. The bedrooms were lovely with plenty of storage space and comfortable beds. Kitchen was fully equipped and spotless with everything needed for our self catering holiday. The large lounge had comfortable seating, nice furniture also TV. Enclosed garden leading off from the kitchen was very private with patio area and sunbeds etc. Plenty of parking space at the side of the apartment. We also had the use of the splash-pool which was great as the weather was very hot.
The owners John (who is Italian ) and wife Trisha (English) where absolutely great. Advising on the local places of interest, best places to eat out, Organise walks or local walks around the lakes.etc. They could not do enough, even going to the local hospital with us as translators when our daughter had a minor injury. They have a great sense of humour and are really friendly. We would recommend Villa Marion to anyone looking for a great place to stay in fact it was recommended to us by a colleague at work.We were not disappointed.
The apartment, Location and Owners were all great.
We will certainly be going again.

An excellent rental

  • 5 out of 5
The apartment is clean and spacious, with two bedrooms and a big bathroom with a shower. It's a bit on the dark side, because it's in the basement, but in the summer heat we didn't mind that one bit. There's a big lawn and patio where it was lovely to each both breakfast and dinner with a pretty view. The street is residential, so there's not much noise except for dogs barking, etc. The owners are extremely friendly and very helpful. There's no wifi or internet, but there is Sky cable so you can get lots of English tv programmes.

Situated on the highest of the hills overlooking Rome. Guests not only have the unforgettable experience of visiting the Eternal City but also the magnificent medieval towns and villages such as Nemi, Castel Gandolfo (the papal summer residence) Frascati famous for its white wine and Renaissance Villas such as Villa Mondragone, Villa Aldobanndini, Villa Tuscolana and Torlonia. Just to mention a few of the wonderful places of interest. The new Theme Park of Valmontone (Magic Wonder Land) is up and running, next to the Valmontone Outlet Centre.. There are plenty of pick-nick areas with wonderful walks through woodland and cross-country. The town has plenty of small shops, bars, ice-cream parlours and restaurants. Al motorway is just a 10 minute drive making Montecassino, Pompei, Naples and Sorento easy day trips. There are two lakes approx. 15 minutes drive, one of which has beaches and plenty of water sports. Horse riding is a popular sport in this area. There are golf courses and a race course among the many activities

Golf: There are several good golf courses in the area, notabley Castelgandolfo and Via Appia.

Ski: There are several verry good ski resorts but all are over an hours drive from Villa Marion.
