|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Clean*, cozy cottage on the southern (NY) shore of Lake Ontario -enjoy gorgeous sunsets and a view of Toronto from the backyard. Close to Niagara Falls and Buffalo, too.
The cottage is fully and comfortably furnished and equipped for everything you'll need to e enjoy your stay, whether it's for two nights or two weeks, including stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee-maker, and linens/towels, kitchen paper products and laundry detergents. Updated kitchen, bamboo flooring in most rooms, ceiling fans in living room and two bedrooms. Additionally, there's free Wi-Fi, a TV, gas grill, and washer and dryer. Of special interest to fishermen, we have a chest freezer and room to park your boat trailer - we're just a few miles from boat launches and marinas.
The cottage can sleep 5, with a double bed in bedroom 1, 2 single beds in bedroom 2, and 1 single in bedroom 3. All mattresses a less than a year old - and the sheets are new, too!
Great location between Wilson and Olcott , near Niagara Falls and Buffalo, Niagara County wine trail, Artpark concerts, and world-class fishing and boating. 30 minutes from bridge to Canada.
*How clean is "clean"? We may miss the occasional dust bunny (those things are sneaky!), but here's what we do between guests: wash ALL used bed lines, including mattress covers and blankets; clean and disinfect shower, toilet, sink, medicine cabinet and wash bath mat and towels; wipe out kitchen cabinets and fridge, stove and oven, microwave; wipe out dresser drawers; dust all furniture in bedrooms and living room; sweep and wash all floors; wipe/disinfect all door knobs; sweep back porch (we try to wash it, too, but that doesn't always happen). Periodically, we also wash the windows and dust the fan blades and whatever else we notice. My own house should be so clean!
Caveat emptor: We have had absolutely NO COMPLAINTS from ANYONE about any of these (or, frankly, about anything else!), but in the interests of full disclosure, here are some things we think you should know before you reserve. 1. You cannot access the lake shore from the property; we sit up on a bluff. You have limited lake views from the cottage itself; you need to walk out into the yard to really view the lake - but what a view! And you're welcome to bring some chairs or blankets out and lounge around out there to enjoy the sunset or the boats. 2. We live nearby on the property; we believe we're pretty unobtrusive, though, so hopefully you'll have all the privacy you want, while having the added advantage of a readily available source of local knowledge. 3. Our grandkids are sometimes over; we keep them penned up inside until a reasonable hour, then limit their activities near the you have kids their ages; then they'll be sure to hang around where they're easily visible in hopes of having someone new to play with. 4. The free Wi-Fi is really not so much. It's there, you can watch it, but it's kid of grainy. We have some good DVDs, though! That's all!
We had an excellent stay at this cottage and very much enjoyed the owners, Dawn and Paul, who live in the big house closer to the lake, and their grandkids (who were so generous to share their toys with our daughter!). The cottage is clean, thoughtfully furnished (high chair, toys, DVDs, fans and space heater), and had plenty of space for our family of 4 to spread out and relax. The kitchen was well equipped and we ended up eating most of our meals at the house. You can see the lake from the living room or take a short walk across the yard to the drop off to enjoy the view. If you're there in the summer, it's less than a 10-minute drive to Olcott, where there's a fantastic $0.25 amusement park for small children that our kids (4 and 1) LOVED last year. Sadly it wasn't open this time, but we're pretty sure we'll be back! We highly recommend this cottage!
The owners are on site and are very nice professional people. My stay was a particularly stressful one as I was meeting my ex-wife and 5 year old son after being apart for nearly 4 years. The owners were very accommodating and made certain that our stay was comfortable in every stretch of the imagination from providing toys and games for us to do as a family to introducing my son to their grandchildren.
Dawn and Paul's cottage has been one of our favorite VRBO experiences. The place is freshly and imaginatively decorated, spotless, thoughtfully stocked for the weary traveler, and a very short walk to the lakeshore. With the tidy back porch and patio, plus the huge yard with lake access, there were plenty of spots to just "kick back" and relax. We truly appreciated Dawn's flexibility with our arrival and departure. Plus the quiet setting made for a special retreat.
As this was a trip "back home" to my roots, it was a perfect place to welcome friends and family for lunches, dinners, coffee, and chats down by the lake. If we had more time, it would have been nice to take up Dawn on her offer of a bonfire by the lake. Maybe next time!
I would recommend the cottage to anyone. While it is close to the usual Niagara Falls attractions, and fishing on Lake Ontario, we will return simply for the beauty and peace of the place itself. It embodies the many reasons I love to refer to this spot in Western New York as "home". It's tranquil, green with shade, tucked away down a grassy drive. The shore waits, poised for the drama of the changing lake: sunsets, mists, rolling fog, shining blue in the glint of sun, churning iron waves in a storm. No dull moments.
I can't wait to go back!
This a a cute little cottage and is perfect for a family. There is just about everything you need in a little home away from home. The hospitatlity is among the best. The view is great and the location is nice and quiet. I stayed with four kids for 3 nights on our way to Syracuse. The kids ages 12-16 loved it. The beds were comfortable and we slept amazing. There is an air conditioner in the living room and fans if needed. We spent one day in Niagara Falls and it was about 35-40min drive away. The hosts were great at giving you ideas on where to go for eating out and even for things for the kids to do. There are a few board games in the main bedroom for the kids to play. TV and Wi-Fi worked great. For a place to swim....Fort Niagara is down the road about 15 min and there is a great pool with 2 waterslides. The price for kids 12 and under is $1.50 and only $3 for adults and older kids. Fort Niagara is a must see. We also went Jet Boating and had a blast. If you go east down the road there is a cute little beach town with nice shops....reasonably priced too. I cant say enough good things about this little place. It was so nice to be able to travel to the city for the falls and then come "home" to a nice quiet place with a great view. Its close enough yet far enough away. I want to bring my family back in the future.
Comfortable location nestled along Lake Ontario between Wilson and New York was perfect for our stay. Very clean, with all the amenities that you would need on a short stay in the region.
Why rent a motel room? We did last year and after finding this, have plans to be back next summer. Close to many great wineries, short drive to Niagara Falls and in the middle of some of the best fishing Lake Ontario has to offer.
Owners were genuinely gracious people who we thank for making our stay one of the best ever.
It was a beautiful and comfortable place to stay . I will recommend anyone to stay at this beautiful cottage. Sorry we were not there most of the time, we had the bowling competition going on for four days out of the 7 days we stayed there. Just met you and your husband once, you guys were so nice. Hope to stay again next year. Thank you again.
P.s.the couches in the living room were very comfortable , which we slept most of the time.
