3 CHARACTER STONE HOUSES WITH COVERED HEATED POOL IN BURGUNDY, FRANCE.

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Braux - Stone Masons House

3 comfortable Gites, sleeping 2/ 4, 6, 8 or a total of 18

Situated in the small village of Braux these recently renovated Burgundian houses lends their names to all the stone work in and around the property. Flagstone floors, vaulted arches, stone fireplaces, kitchen sinks and work surfaces and stone shower trays add to the charm of these 19th century houses. There is a heated and covered swimming pool with a good range of inflatable toys, 8m x 4m, with walk-in steps at the shallow end, ideal for young children and learners. The pool, barbeque and eating areas can be flood lit in the evenings. These well equipped houses can be rented as a whole or as separate units so if you would like to make up a large group and rent all 3 this is possible.

During our off peak season we are also organising themed weekend breaks.

We have decided to make use of the old traditional bread oven, that was built in 1850 approx., to make an unforgettable weekend experience, read on for more information.....

There is a bread van that passes 3 mornings a week through the village selling fresh baguettes and croissants, a cheese van that passes on a Wednesday evening and an 'epicerie' van once a week.

The house is stocked with information leaflets for all the local sites and activities and we have also included our recommendations for places to eat. There are fabulous walks around the numerous lakes and in the Morvan forest, cycling along the towpath of the Burgundy canal, which meanders through the village, golf courses at the Chateau de Chailly, horse riding near Semur en Auxois and wind surfing and peddeloes at Lac du Pont, 5 minutes away.

New this year, massage, manicure and facials using organic products. This is a lovely way to start or finish your holiday, why not treat yourself to a relaxing massage? If this interests you let me know at the time of booking and I will reserve a time for you to enjoy this wonderful experience.

.

During our off peak season we are also organising themed weekend breaks.

We have decided to make use of the old traditional bread oven.

We will be making and cooking pizzas, different breads and brioches, tasting local wines and cheeses and even cooking a suckling pig in the oven. You will also have the time to visit our local market in the medieval town of Semur en Auxois, Dijon or Beaune.

If you would like to prolong your break why not stay a couple of extra nights and really visit this lovely area.

You can come along and join a group or make up your own group. It's a great opportunity to celebrate a birthday or wedding anniversary, have a « girls weekend »  or come with family and get away from it all. Whatever your choice we can organise the rest.....

If you are interested in our weekend break please call or e-mail for the prices and full details of the stay.

Prices are £140 per person for the weekend.

Our special weekends normally run from Friday afternoon 4pm to Sunday 5pm

Highly recommended.

  • 5 out of 5
The house, pool, and surroundings (including barbeque!) are extremely well-kept and well-supplied. The house had more than enough room for six people. The owner is very friendly, and more than happy to help with any and all issues. All in all, we had a very good time at Stone Masons house and we would certainly recommend it to anyone.

Regulars to Stonemasons!

  • 5 out of 5
When the accommodation and setting are this good, why go elsewhere? Louise and Gerard's cottages are absolutely beautiful with stunning stonemasonry throughout. The outside area and pool is superb, Braux is a dear little village which lies alongside the very pretty sparkly Canal de Bourgogne - great for walking, running, cycling and collecting mistletoe. We have already booked for next year (visit number four). Oh and the local wines including Cremant are phenomenal. The town of Semur is just a short drive away with its remarkable towers and a good selection of bars and restaurants.

Stone Masons house No 2

  • 5 out of 5
What a lovely place to stay! The house and location are just as described. The house is very spacious, well equipped and has been renovated beautifully allowing for modern facilities but with all the charm and features of the original building. Louise and Gerard are perfect hosts, very friendly and helpful and provided a really fun pizza making evening enjoyed by all in our family, from Grandma to our 9 year old! The star of the holiday was the swimming pool, which can be used whatever the weather due to the glass cover, and where my boys spent many hours.
The surrounding countryside is very pretty, with the canal and plenty of wildlife.
We are planning on returning for another fantastic holiday here, to relax around the pool and cycle along the canal and to visit more of the pretty surrounding villages and towns.

Great Holiday!

  • 4 out of 5
We spent 2 wonderful weeks at Stonemasons Cottage and have nothing but praise for Louise and her family. The gite itself is beautifully maintained and v clean. The garden is on a bit of a slope but large and my 2 year old loved running around and using the swings and sandpit. The pool is probably the biggest plus especially with the glass cover which is amazing! It allowed us to swim even when the weather wasn't great and heated up the water the rest of the time. A real selling point!
The local area is very picturesque and we had many walks down the lovely canal which is a few minutes stroll from the gite. The nearest town of Semur is really lovely and the sunday market a great trip out!
Louise is utterly welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much for her and she and her family made us feel relaxed and well cared for. The pizza night was great fun and really enjoyable!

Book Early for Wonderful September Experience

  • 5 out of 5
My wife and I spent a lovely 2 weeks in this lovely gite close to Semur en Auxois. The listing information was very accurate (one of the main reasons we choose Home Away!) and the gite was very well equipped and clean. We loved the location in a small, picturesque village very close to the Canal Bourgogne, great for walks and picnics. Louise is an excellent host, on site to answer questions and offer great advice and information. The countryside in this area is beautiful and different from the vineyards to the east, a good contrast. The town of Semur is less than 15 minutes away and hosts a small market on Sunday, a wonderful boulangerie, good restaurants and shops. As well there are several sights in the region as well as the bigger town of Beaune. And after a day enjoying France you'll love the covered pool. Enjoy.

The houses are located in a very beautiful area; Dijon for shopping and site seeing is just 40 minutes away and all the wonderful well known wine villages of Burgundy are about the same. Chablis is to the north and it takes about 45 minutes to get there. Don't forget to visit Irancy and St Bris whilst you're there, they have great wines and at a slightly cheaper price. The medieval town of Semur en Auxois is just 10kms away, wander along the cobbled streets, take a walk around the ramparts and down to the river Armançon, have a coffee on a 'terrace' and choose from the numerous restaurants where you will eat. You can find everything you need here, banks, supermarkets, garages, post office, newsagents and a small Sunday morning market which is worth a visit.

Fontenay Abbey, the chateau at Bussy Rabutin and Chateauneuf, the basilica at Vezelay and Dijon are just a few of the historic sites to visit.

Other Activities: Wine tasting and massages using organic products.

Notes:
There is a childs swing and slide in the garden. The heated swimming pool has a very safe hard cover on it, which you can see in the photos. It solar heats the water so that the season for the pool is much longer than using a traditional bubble cover. It can be taken off the pool by sliding along rails, it's very light and easy to use. It is also the safest form of protection for the pool, it is kept locked at all times when not in use. It also has the advantage that one can swim under the cover if the weather is a bit chilly or windy, there is a side door that accesses the pool and 2 steps down into the shallow end. The house has a security gate fitted to the stairs for use with small children. The house has been fitted with security smoke alarms.
