Mark and Laura have a home in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles and several vacation rentals in Joshua Tree. Laura teaches yoga and is owner of a yoga studio - Glendale Yoga in Glendale, CA. After nearly 30 years in B2B sales Mark spends much of his time in Joshua Tree managing and improving the properties. We both grew up in Cincinnati, OH but have lived in California for 20 years. We love everything that California has to offer but are particularly enamored with the beautiful scenery and interesting community of Joshua Tree.
Owner / Manager purchased this house in 2011
We purchased this property because we both appreciate architecture and vintage furniture and décor. This house was quite a showplace in its day - Donovan used to stop by for coffee - and we have enjoyed restoring it to its original glory and filling it with period furnishing and decoration and wonderful art. There are 8' deep eaves around the entire house which keep it cooler and provide choices of shady seating areas for different times of the day. This house is a relaxing and comfortable trip back in time.
There are beautiful views through walls of glass in the kitchen and living room. The large open kitchen with room for a table with seating for 10 in front of a fireplace is perfect for large get togethers. All of the rooms are oversized - the sunken living room is nearly 900 sq. ft. alone - and there are multiple indoor and outdoor gathering spots so the house never really feels crowded. We love to relax on the patio off of the kitchen and master bedroom while listening to one of the thousands of records in the record collection and watching the stars in the beautiful desert sky!
The house and grounds were great! Very close to town and the park, yet it felt very secluded. The house was spacious and have everything you could possibly need and then some. A nice soak in the hot tub under the stars, relaxing in hammocks, and enjoying the fire pit. Loved the record collection and miscellaneous treasures throughout the house. Comfy beds and large kitchen. And Mark was great ... very informative and responsive. I would definitely recommend this place!
Place was amazing !!! And Mark was a sweetheart. Stocked with everything you could imagine. Hot tub under the stars! Hammocks. Loved discovering collectables throughout the house. Super comfy beds. Well laid-out so If you were in the bedroom sleeping , you couldn't hear voices in living room. Great lighting too ! Just a great vibe in general. My only thing I'd change -- darker curtains in main room -- too bright in the mornings. But that's minor! I'll def come back !!
5 of us slept like kings and queens. The beds were so comfortable. The hot tub under the stars was dreamy! The hammocks were swinging! The kitchen was a delight with everything we could have possibly needed. It felt like a relic from the 70s with the conveniences of today. We listened to so many records. So close to Joshua tree national park. Stay 2 days would have happily stayed a week!
I can't say enough good things about this place. To be honest, I almost wasn't going to write a review because I don't want other people finding out about this place, but I also want Mark (The owner) to know how amazing of an experience my friends and I had out there and desperately want to come back.
Let's begin with the setting: The outdoor space is fenced in on what feels like a 1/2 acre property, and it's incredible. There are views of the horizon on all sides of the property. There is an outdoor fire pit and plenty of grounds to explore.
The house takes the entire experience to a whole other level -- it is immaculately decorated in vintage furniture, has three record players with lots of great records, and has two fire places to keep you warm. The kitchen is a fantastic place to make a home cooked meal, with a huge dining room table to fit all 8 guests.
The place is very accessible and is close to the main strip of restaurants, vintage shops, yoga studios and indian craft stores. Mark is just a phone call away and there are lots of pamphlets at the house to give you ideas about what to do in your trip to Joshua Tree.
The place was fantastic. Period. I went with my family and another couple to shoot stars and the Milky Way and some of the best shots I got were from the yard while lying in a hammock and talking with friends.
We abandoned our hiking plans and ended up just relaxing in the house, listening to the huge collection of records on hand, playing darts, and grilling together when the sun went down.
An excessive amount of space with lots of different areas to sit together or by yourself and just read. 10 minute drive from the park entrance (you can't get much closer than that).
The property is located on a well-maintained dirt road in a relatively sparsely populated neighborhood just a half mile away from the village of Joshua Tree. Although just 2 hours drive from Los Angeles you will find Joshua Tree to be worlds away. Joshua Tree is a beautiful area that attracts artists and musicians and outdoor enthusiasts from around the world to make it their home. The community actively supports the arts and tourism and environmental issues. Visitors will find the locals to be an extremely interesting and friendly lot. The west entrance to the amazing 800,000 acre Joshua Tree National Park is just a couple miles away and the property features views of the mountains in the park. There are excellent running and hiking trails outside of the park just a short walk from the property.
